Something I don't know if I explained very well. When I set the focus height to 50mm or 47mm I did not refocus the laser. The laser is true focused at 49mm. The other settings are slightly defocused to produce a different burn characteristics. When using a z axis I never touch my focus ring anymore. It's set to 49mm and I leave it there so my results should stay the same. I've since made some wooden barrels set cut to 47, 49, and 51mm. These will better help to set an exact height more repeatable than using a tape measure. I've found if the defocus is just off 1mm it will not produce the same results. Exact focus heights are needed to make this work.
Been trying different things here and there for a week or so and never came close to that. I didnt think a portrait was possible on these machines. Thats seriously impressive! Thank you sir! Your a legend!
After burning a bunch of test patterns I'm finally burning my first white tile. Are you supposed to clean those with acetone as well? Thanks for the video.
These were cleaned several times with acetone, then with glass cleaner,, and finally hot water and soap.. the color gets a little better once its completely dry. Unknown how long they'd hold up to a high temp dishwasher. I haven't seen much sign of micro fracture yet.
I really enjoy your glass engraving, I just ordered my glass coasters, based on your engraving, I love to do the YinYang. Send file if you can. Thank You
just keep practicing and trying different things. most things don't turn out well the first try. Find a test pattern file and learn how to use and modify it for different speed and power ranges. I generally run everything at 85% power and adjust the speed until it looks good. Unless you are at max speed then start lowering power. Best way I found to maximize your burn time. The old idea that diodes can only do stuff at super slow speeds just isn't true.
depends on the model. I have the Pro and it's from the bottom of the heat sink frame. If its one of the other fixed focus models where the lens can drop down I believe those are all from the bottom of the lens. Run a ramp test. put an a piece of wood at an angle and burn a solid fill across the length of it. where it burns the darkest is your optimum focus height. see if your focus spacer is set to the lens or the heat sink.
How do you get the paint to stay when lasering off my scale goes from 3000mm/s down to 300mm/s and from 10% to 100% and all my squares take the paint completely off you just get a see through image
Great video very informative can you tell me when you laser the glass is it paint up or down? And am I right in assuming you used the grayscale dither with min power settings?
Need to be set to a Grayscale dither with an image to use minimum power settings. If you are doing test panels they are set to fill at set powers and speeds.

As always....awesome R&D from you. This is amazing. I never thought was possible on glass !
As always thanks a lot for sharing.
Thank you for taking the time to make video's and explain in detail how you achieved your results. Very Interesting.
Saw some glass items at hobby lobby yesterday that this would be good to try on. Thanks for the info.
Thanks. You're tutorials are always appreciated. Very nice work.
impressive !! great work Thank you ...
After burning a bunch of test patterns I'm finally burning my first white tile. Are you supposed to clean those with acetone as well? Thanks for the video.
Yes, clean them with acetone before you paint them white and then again after you burn the image to remove the paint.
Thanks, I wasn't sure about after the burn.
by far the best explanation on this thank you!!!!
Good job sir! Will get burning 🔥
Question. How well is the paint stuck onto the glass? Will it come off easily or even with rubbing alcohol? Just wondering?

Thx for this I am working with my new laser master 2 SF. Any suggestions from anyone is appreciated.

Good video Kenny
How do you measure the mm height when I was told to measure the height with the tool that comes with the Ortur. Thanks for the video.

are you using a diode or CO2? CO2s might have too much power for this method.
you have to put the paint on a little thick. I do a 50% overlap pass and then 2 more quick passes.
@@TheKennyHack I have the Ortur LM2 with the LU2-4 module and I will try to lay down thicker coats I was doing really light coats

Paint up and yes, use the grayscale dither if using an image. You can also use vectors set at desired power level fills.
@@TheKennyHack thanks for your advise you are at the top of your game and the videos are so intuitive keep up the good work🙏👏
Great! How can i enable the option min power? I have it disabled.
Need to be set to a Grayscale dither with an image to use minimum power settings. If you are doing test panels they are set to fill at set powers and speeds.
@@TheKennyHack Thank you so much for everything!!
