    This is soapstone.
Marble is not resistant to alkaline or acidic substances.
And has better heat resistance to heat.
Structural grade soapstone is used for counter tops

Is this untreated soapstone? Suede/honed? Just want to be sure this will work for us! Thank you.

Soapstone is untreated. It’s not like granite, which can be honed or leathered. You never seal soapstone. Water and soap will leave lighter marks, especially around the sink. If you are looking for a consistently black surface, go with honed or leathered black granite. But if you’re willing to have countertops whose surface color ages to a softer patina, the maybe soapstone is for you.

This is marble, soapstone is way to soft for a countertop.
