When I first started listening to Ani, (I was late to the party, just before Red Letter Year), I remember how her cadences would surprise me. Like, the words came when you weren't expecting them. It became harder to notice as I got used to her music, falling in love with it all along the way.
I hear something of that in this. As much as she keeps evolving, I hear glimpses of where she's been. It's always spectacular.
I appreciate this woman's endless creativity and her willingness to keep creating art. I don't necessarily like this song, but I'll always love Ani and will seriously consider everything she does.
Love you Ani! You're one of the main reasons I'm a passion activist.

I've been listening to ani over half my life i'm 41
when my peers and i who were fans of ani in past years were activists
we were activists against environmental deregulation, against the excesses of capitalism, against war, against capital punishment, etc
what is ani difranco an activist for these days if we're to judge by her current albums/interviews/prounouncements etc
it doesn't seem to be anything Union related ala her days w/Utah Phillips
it doesn't seem to be anything anti-war with her silence on Ukraine and Israel/Palestine one way or the other
oh yeah she put out a book calleed "the knowing" and in interviews vaguely vaguely suggested if you were to take her arguement to its logical conclusion; she'd be perhaps agasint encouraging minors to take hormones and use pronouns but she's not gonna take a strong stance on that one way or another b/c that may be a vogue among the tiny remnants of what once was a respectable fan base
Everyone has a right to speak their truth and not let others truth get in their way.

@@RoscoeRossi-fo1zk Jimi Hendrix song Waterfall has a section where the ...nevermind, if you don't know about cassette tapes, look it up. I don't know how to explain it. The music on the track starts playing backwards or really really slow. To get a distorted effect.
