Originally, Stanley is a conscious AI that can customize maps, so it would make sense for Stanley to have control over the maps of the enemies we face, including the events that happen.
Example: Girlfriend coming back to life and saving BF after Stanley revived her Or BF not being able to enter the well of L is Real
all this being monitored, controlled and manipulated by M, who would probably be forcing, torturing and forcing him to do all these customizations, just like he did by showing abandoned Luigi to Stanley/Mario
