Incredible! You pick the most beautiful scenery, landscapes, and coastlines. Something else I find remarkable... you never seem fatigued, perspiring, out of breath, or bothered by the sheer drops around you. Always composed! Another great video.
Cheers Donal, you can't go far wrong in Mayo (time after time)😊 There was plenty of huffing and puffing carrying the backpack with all my gear, though when filming I am usually moving at quite a slow pace so it all balances out😊 I am a bit nervous with heights and do take good care near those drops. Always composed for the camera🎬😊
Good morning Gerry and thank you so much for this, an absolute treat start to finish, if iv said it once I have said it a million times, you are bloomin great at this video making gig! Super footage and an incredible place, we loved every second ❤ have a great weekend, thanks again, Ceri and Kat ☕ ❤ 👍 🧭
Ceri & Kat thank you👍👍 It is an incredible place - I think we both have to travel west for those dramatic coasts and mountains😊
Personally speaking Gerry this is by far my favorite video, each clip surpasses the last one, and when you think they cant get any better, they get even better !! Absolutely superb cinematography , loved every minute of this part 2. Im yearning for the sound of the sea to sing me a lullaby ,Im well overdue a coastal wild camp. That didnt look an easy hike Gerry, fair play to you for stamina in bringing us this visual masterpiece, and you even said a naughty word on your blooper clips lol. Fantastic Gerry loved it. ATVB Colin
Totally agree. Epic, stunning video. Bucket list worthy.
Cheers Colin, it all sort of builds up to those cliffs of Croaghaun which are absolutely stunning👍 It as great to have the sound of the waves rolling in at the camp and to just walk along the coast and climb mountains at the same time😊 There were no children present so I though it was okay to say the naughty word😊
Definitely one for the bucket list I would say👍
@@gerrymcveigh 🤭😁🤣
Gorgeous views of the mountains and the sea and shoreline! Wow, amazing! Great place to relax and refresh!! Lovely 👌👍💗💕
Cheers Jennifer, it was a walk that had such varied landscapes and there was always something new to make the heart beat a little faster😊
@@gerrymcveigh 😁👌
I really like outdoor events. it's so relaxing to see the beautiful nature, peaceful place and perfect weather. Magnificent views.
Thank you👍 the weather was perfect and it was a very peaceful trip😊
What an absolutely gorgeous start to a walk, beautiful weather and surroundings.
Cheers, it was a beautiful evening and the weather was kind to me so I could take in all the fantastic landscape ☀️😊
Awesome Gerry, have to agree with Colin, this has to be one of your best videos. You captured the beauty of Achill perfectly. The strand looked completely idyllic, what a place to bivi for the night. Makes me want to get out again, it’s been too long! Thanks for sharing Gerry, truly amazing!
Cheers Gary, I have camped there a few times and each one has been fantastic. It has become more well known so wasn't sure if I would have the place to myself though I had no need to worry😊 Loads of places low of high to camp on Achill and it is a beautiful place. Hopefully you will be out soon, the weather is looking good around Easter👍
Gorgeous place, brilliantly filmed Gerry, thank you.
Cheers George, it is just stunning. I have been on Achill many times and it never fails to impress and inspire👍😊
Those conditions ‘were just about right’ alright! 😊 Wonderful footage and commentary throughout Gerry 👏 I imagine you were kept busy capturing the stunning views throughout…you did a wonderful job of showing us the wonders of Achill! Great way to spend a weekend 😎 Didn’t realise shit was in your vocabulary either 😂
Cheers Miriam, it was a cracking wee weather window with light winds, sunshine and decent daytime temperatures, before it turned cold again😊 As you know filming adds an age to a walk and there was so much to capture that at times I just had to walk on😊 II can assure you that word is only used when a wind gust hits me whilst standing at a cliff edge😊
@@gerrymcveigh phew….your public persona has been maintained 😇
Again just absolute pure class Gerry!! Some man for one man!!
Cheers John, it is a stunning place and just happy to share some of it with others😊
Very nice trip. Thank you for sharing. Nice views along the way. Nice with the bird chirping and the sunrise at the signal tower. Take care
Cheers, it was a glorious morning with the birds singing and the sun rising☀️😊
Great video Gerry, the Croaghaun sea cliffs are the highest in Ireland and the 3rd highest in Europe.
Cheers Aidan, they are spectacular and they go a long way down😊
Great video. So many Loughs along that coast. Surprising.
Cheers Robert, there are four at a low level and I think 3 at a higher level around Croaghaun. Great for me to brew up plenty of cups of tea😊
Gerry, I wanted to have a slow morning at the breakfast table, coffee in hand to properly enjoy this epic video and it did not disappoint. I love your style and your content man. Calm and informative encouraging and constantly awestruck by the walk and beauty around you, another triumph. And the colours on that first sunset!!!! And waking up to skylarks on your last morning!!! What a trip!?
Cheers Alyn, it is a place to be awestruck with so much beauty all around - well worth a Walkwatcher visit👍 it is fantastic to be out overnight wild camping to see the sunset, night sky and sunrise in the morning😊 The birdsong was pretty cool too in the morning - made up for not having any tea or brekfast😊
@@gerrymcveigh definitely inspired to get out there and get the camera out, not sure I would do as good a job as you have though. I might need a guide and copresenter!!!!
Mate this is amazing. Them views are unreal. Thanks for sharing
Cheers James, Achill is some spot 👍😊
Thanks for sharing your trip Gerry….. Amazing views!
Cheers Paul, it was good one😊
Such beautiful scenery 💚💜
Cheers Claressa, it is a really beautiful place and worth visiting time and again👍
Hi Gerry really enjoyed this, thank you for filming. It was a great look around the area almost too nice to share on the internet as so stunningly beautiful and remote..ATB Tom
Cheers Tom, it does take a wee bit of effort to get there so happy to share for anyone willing to go for it😊 I have seen Annagh Strand mentioned quite a bit online and was slightly nervous that it would be 'busier' since my last visit, though I only saw that Shepard along the coast so had no need to be nervous at all. That and the area around Port in Donegal have to be 2 of the most awesome coastlines in Ireland.
Spectacular scenery well captured Gerry, a great video.!
Cheers Mick, it is a fantastic area for scenery with so much going on and pretty remote until you get to the mountain tops😊
Lovely. Achill really looks like a special place. I’ve never been but will have to change that soon!
Cheers Pat, it is a place that once you go you will fall in love with it👍 It has so much beautiful scenery from the beaches to the mountain tops 😊
Gerry, At the end did you say SHIT? 🙂That cracked me up! Always, always LOVE your videos. You smiled and giggled a lot through this one. Thank you for sharing your happiness with us. It makes us happy, too!
Kriss, I only cursed because I nearly fell into the corrie😊 That was a fantastic trip and a place that brings smile after smile as it is so beautiful👍 Thank you for your very kind comment and have a great 2023😊
What a beautiful place for camping! Clouds on the ground, views at sunset and dawn are enchanting. Thank you for the amazing share. Mega like 110 🌞
Cheers👍 I think I had it about as good as it could be with the weather☀️to go with those amazing landscapes😊
Thanks Gerry, great video, i'll be on achill island at some point soon. Your videos are brilliant bro. If you are ever traveling through Ballykelly stop and i will get you a Tommys chippy.
Cheers Glenn, Achill is such a great place with the coast, cliffs, mountains, corrie loughs and big views over the rest of Mayo👍 That is a cool offer😊
Someday I'll make my way to Achill and hike those mountains although I'm sure the bad weather will follow me as it usually does 😄 Really stunning views and the bivvy camping is class. Nice and simple 👌 Great video 👍
Can you let me know when you decide to go so that I can also avoid the dark clouds? 😀😂
@@patienceman 😄 I will surely, anywhere else in the country will have fantastic weather that week 😆
Cheers Jason, usually the weather talks about drizzle along the west coast of Ireland even when everywhere else is bathed in sunshine so it does mean jumping in the car when there is some certainty that it is going to be good☀️😊 Never sure too with a coastal mountain like Croaghuan. It think you would love Achill and Mayo - there is enough to keep anyone going for a few weeks😊 I love that the bivy is so simple to set up, tough the weather has to be right and there has to be no midges👍
@@gerrymcveigh I've had such bad luck with the weather that I head out regardless of the forecast 😄 Once there are no weather warnings in place I'm happy enough to hope for the best. You could try a hooped bivvy like the Snugpak Stratosphere or Alpkit Elan. They could be better when there are midges about 👍
Unbelievable location, weather, scenery, nature, everything really. Seeing that many seals is incredible, I even read there are Puffins on Achill. What an incredible adventure!
Cheers, there must have been over 100 seals🦭hauled out on that storm beach where no-one was going to disturb them (except the waves from the ocean 🌊). There were quite a few birds along the cliffs and it wouldn't surprise me if there were puffins too. Definitely a less trodden area and a different approach to those heights of Croaghaun👍
That looks class. I'm jealous.
Cheers Phil, it was great trip and a brilliant place to spend some time in👍😊
Hi Gerry, absolutely brilliant video yet again! Claire and I got a bit of a shock getting a shout out there 😀 It was great to meet you. We’d an unreal night out ourselves. What a fantastic place especially when we get the weather! Keep up the great work you’re inspiring us all to spend more days and nights in the mountains!
Cheers Mark, I absolutely had to give you both a mention😊 I think I saw your (light coloured) tent sitting just at the cliff edge above the lough on my return journey? if that was you it was a superb spot and a beautiful evening/night/morning ⭐️☀️
Another amazing video Gerry, small world I stayed in the cottage you can just see in the background of the graveyard beside the deserted village two weeks ago were you ended your trip.
That would be an amazing place to stay👍 Stayed in a cottage not far from there a few years ago for a week and it might just be time to look into something again👍
Another great video thanks for posting. It's a spectacular location. I hope to return this summer.
Cheers again Damien👍 It is stunning along that north western side of Achill with Croaghaun and Slievemore😊
Like 120. Amazing place. Wow, such beautiful views (especially towards the waters). Cool campfire light. The camp food looks good too.
Thank you 👍 it was an amazing trip in a beautiful place 😊
Love the punk rock gothy sheep! Love the mist! Love the long shot of you walking down the road in the distance! Wow! Your camera work is soooooo good! Breath-taking!!! Wow! Love the fishing boat shot! Sunlight shots are amazing. This has to be a strong contender for your best ever. How are you ever going to beat this Gerry! lol
Cheers Tom, I thought those shape should have their own metal band - I am an old rocker from the 80's and they would fit in there perfectly🐑🎸😊 I just happened to spy the fishing boat and had to hurry my climb to be able to see it properly through the camera - much huffing and puffing. You never know what you are going to film on the next trip so it is just a matter of going and seeing, I was pretty happy with this one though😊
Another great video Gerry. That sunrise on your second morning was absolutely stunning.
Cheers Kenny, it was a great spot to watch the sun rise with the birds singing☀️😊
I really love camping. Magnificient viiews! Thanks for this great video.
Thank you👍 I really love camping too😊 especially in such beautiful places.
Love the videos, i'm itching to do something like this, but haven't the nerve yet. Done a few bike tours to camp sites but not wild camping. Maybe one day hopefully soon
Cheers, bike touring and campsites sound brilliant👍 Bike touring and wild camping sounds cool too😊 Some of my coolest wild camps have been within 15 minutes of the car👍
Stunning scenes as always Gerry! Cool sleeping spot on night one, waking up to waves crashing. You did a great job of catching the different terrains you travelled through too, inspiring stuff.
Cheers Will, Annagh Strand is a brilliant place to wild camp and having the sound of waves of running water is a tonic for sleeping outdoors😊 There is fantastic variety of scenery around Achill and Croaghaun Mountain in particular👍
Brilliant video Gerry, beautiful scenes and weather, love your filming and attention to detail. Roisin and I enjoyed watching this on the big screen.
Cheers Martin, people keep telling me about these big screens and I still haven't managed to get myself one😊 Achill is a beautiful place - just need some big storm cells off the coast to make it perfect⚡️😊 Thank you both for watching👍
Beautiful video Gerry, absolutely amazing from start to finish. Definitely one for the bucket list 👌. We all really enjoyed watching . Think you summed it up perfectly of the cliff views with Wow!
Cheers, glad you all enjoyed watching👍 It is a beautiful place with plenty of options to go off the beaten track and those cliffs are pretty spectacular😊 Well worth a visit for the beaches, the mountains and the coastal cliffs.
Great video mate 👍
Cheers Dave, it is hard to go wrong in such a cool place👍
Great singing friend 🙏🙏
Fantastic upload! Bravo👏👏👏👏
Thank you 👍👍
Wow, beautiful place.
Achill is simply stunning with its coastline, cliffs and mountains and a place that draws you back time and again👍😊
Brilliant video, keep up the great work 👍
Cheers👍 That was a brilliant trip and Achill is an amazing place for walking and so much more😊
fantastic!
Cheers Glen, it truly is a fantastic place to explore👍
I know I keep repeating myself Gerry but those views are simply stunning. I can`t wait to get back to Co Galway next year ! Cheers Pal 😀
Cheers Martin, Mayo and Galway together make for some counties😊
Fantastic video... Brilliant... Loved how you compensated for the different sun angles... 👏👏😊☘
Cheers JJ👍 It is an amazing place and it was just great to have the sun with me☀️instead of focusing on wind, and rain😊
My best friend, Excellent video! Keep it up! I had to see the full video, as always,
Thank you 👍👍
The morning must be spectacular let alone the night sky!
When you get clear sky out there it is brilliant for sunset, sunrise and the night full of stars☀️⭐️😊
@@gerrymcveigh awesome bud
Your sum man for the bivy. I really got try it. I know I keep saying it 🤣 I'll get there. Im blown away by this area. Well done Gerry.
Cheers Martin, the bivy is the job for dry conditions and it worked perfectly on Achill with that great weather☀️😊
Class video as always Gerry.Stunning views always enjoy watching your adventures.
Regards Heavydigging...👍👍
Thank you👍 the stunning views are plentiful on Achill😊
Well done Gerry great video
Cheers Peter, I always say that in places like that you just have to point the camera😊
Me and girlfriend followed this hike this weekend, camped just before the incline to the cliffs however the rain was pretty bad. What a place. Thanks for the video to help guide us on our 1 night wild camp, 2 day hike. I would class this hike as intermediate
Cheers Jason👍 Was that Saddle Head you camped at? If it was that was my original thought for a camp through as always totally underestimated my timings😊 A beautiful and isolated stretch of coast, even with heavy rain🌧😊
@@gerrymcveigh it was the river just before you made the incline to saddle head. From your tracks you went down it and look out over the cliff. Been my favourite place so far, similar to yours.. didn’t see one person the whole 2 days
Brilliant👍
Just got round to watching this now Gerry, what an absolutely amazing place, as always the camera never does it justice, thanks for that, I'm gonna make plans to vist Achill

Stuart
Cheers Stuart👍 totally agree the camera can never do justice to all that there is to see. Croaghaun has to be one of the most spectacular mountains in Ireland and is well worth visiting😊
amazing ! big like
Thank you👍👍
Thanks for sharing a new and useful video I like the feeling that communicates well even if the language is different Full watch, I want to come again Cheer
Have a great time
☺🤭⚘😚💑
Thank you 👍👍
Definitely one of your best trips for a while gerry. The variety made for a riot of stimulation. Bluffs, mountains, corries, long views, awesome cliffs and a great approach down to the sea for a bivvy spelt out the richness of it all. I thought the sea would annoy you at night but you had a reasonable sleep. Ha ha, forgot a bag of rubbish. I did have to laugh it still being on your mind. But that's the mark of the man right there. Brilliant outing second bivvy and all. Well, see you back out there for another Irish spectacular. Mark
Cheers Mark, it is a beautifully wild coastline with so much going on and it was so cool to be able to spend a couple of days and nights there. The sound and rhythm of water is so soothing (as you know) and the waves were a great real sleep aid (not through a phone app). I will go back to look for that rubbish bag👍
@@gerrymcveigh A pleasure as always gerry. Oh for sure that coastline is a gem in the world and not just Ireland. It's awesome. Good to hear of the water and waves - off the app. Ha ha! Hope you find the bag.
Two fantastic vlogs Gerry ;) it's amazing the places you huff and puff to :) Serious stunning views and thanks again for bringing us along on our sofas planning to follow your routes on outdoor active ;) which is very nice of you to upload...Until your next adventure ATB
Cheers👍 there was definitely some huffing and puffing alright😊 though all worth it to visit such an amazing place. I miss ViewRanger though am getting used to Outdoor Active which is useful for planning and recording trips👍
@@gerrymcveigh anything on alltrails?
❤️❤️
Thank you for watching❤️❤️
Looks amazing Gerry, as always. I really need to branch out from the Mournes.
You should do guided tours for wild camps. You'd make a fortune 🤗
Cheers Graeme, the Mournes are as stunning a place as any in Ireland with so much variety - they have it all👍 I do love the west of Ireland too though😊 I like my own company too much to be doing guided tours - happy for people to watch and plan their own trips😊
I've done the same hike over a couple of days over 30 years ago, One day went up Slievemore from the same way you took, then the following day from the deserted village to Anna. If I was going to Anna again I'd park at Lough Corrymore on the Keem road and over the back of the hills down to Anna it's a lot shorter and though a little boggy it's a quicker run. The small circular hoes were known as Boley houses where they would take their livestock in the summer and graze them there until the late Autumn. They're in Anna and in the valley below Croaghaun and Achill head.
Tommy, there is some stunning walking on Achill👍 I wonder if much has changed in 30 years? Lough Corrymore is definitely a good starting point to get over to the coast on the north side. Love Annagh and have wild camped there a few times, it just has remote feel to it surrounded by the hills and the sea.
@@gerrymcveigh Things have changed somewhat in the 36 years I’ve been going to Achill. Been going every Year except during COVID. When I first went I used to camp in PJ’s campsite in Dugort (now under new management) then stayed in mobile homes in Keel. When I first went to Achill the clouds were about house height and it rained for three days couldn’t wait to get home as we were drowned with two young kids in a frame tent. On the fourth day the sun was shining and saw Sleivemore for the first time, I didn’t know we were beside a mountain. Been going back every year since. I find the place mystical and like a second home. Thge only real change is less pubs for nightlife and no more donkey rides on keel beach.
Beautiful Gerry some spot is Achill
Cheers Colwyn, it is the spot for mountains, loughs, beaches and cliffs all thrown together👍😊
How did you sleep with no tent? 😂 Great great video. My god I can't believe ireland looks like that. Simply amazing views
Thank you👍 I really do prefer a bivy bag rather than a tent (if the weather is suitable) as it just feels like you are so much more present and unobtrusive. There is nothing better than lying looking up at a sky full of stars⭐️😊 Ireland is truly beautiful😊

The light.........................😮
Robyn, you never really know what weather you will get in the far west of Ireland though when it works it works👍😊
Great trip! Love being inspired by those videos! Is it possible to drink the water in those ponds with a filter or is it salt water as well?
Cheers, it is freshwater and the water is probably good enough to drink even without a filter, I usually boil it though for tea😊
You should be working for Bord Failte and the Wild Atlantic Way with these recent videos Gerry! Looked like a fabulous weekend with the weather to match. I've been to Keem Beach and up to the coastguard hut above, just a small glimpse of what you had for a full weekend. Thanks for sharing 👌
Out of curiosity, do you filter water for hiking or just boil for cooking. Thinking about switching to a filter instead of using a water bladder and finding it difficult to decide on which brand or model....
Cheers Niall, it was a great weekend weather wise (one of the few) and it all pretty much went according to plan. Keem and the line of cliffs from the old coastguard hut is a stunning walk👍 For this trip I brought 2 litres of water which was supplemented by another 2 or 3 litres taken from the loughs to boil for tea and cooking. I would also have been happy to drink directly from those loughs due to their remoteness. I do have a 500ml water bottle with a carbon filter that could be used in less remote places, other than that I don't personally use a filter though many others do (and they look like a great job). Probably in part to do with my tea addiction😊
Not long back from a week in Achill. My happy place ❤ Are you from Belfast? I'm from there originally but live in Fermanagh now.
Manda, Achill is a happy place for me too😊 and a week there is pretty cool👍 I am from Antrim, though when you go far enough west that is considered Belfast too😊
@@gerrymcveigh it really is because I spent most of my years in Crumlin 🤣
What litre of bag have you got? Doesn't look like a lot on your back
Ah...you're a bivy man interesting.
I have 2 bags, one 38 litres and one 45 litres. This is enough for all my gear for an overnight (including bringing the tent and the bivy). The 45 litre pack which I used on this trip can handle a couple of nights, which is really only bringing some extra food👍 I find the bivy a much better experience though the weather has to be forgiving😊
