Cheers👍 Slievemore is a superb climb from the east following the ridge with stunning views and then there are even more stunning views from the top (if it is clear☀).
It was a great wee dander👣 and the weather was brilliant☀️ Not often those opportunities arise out here so well worth the effort to make the most of them😊
Cheers Kevin, I had a great time there last summer climbing Croaghaun from the west and wild camping. It was cool to be back on Slievemore after a good few years and it is a brilliant climb from Doogort if you choose to go that way😊
Absolutely beautiful views you captured Gerry, certainly blessed with a lovely spell of settled weather. The views towards Galway seemed clear enough despite a little haze. I think we are definitely on the countdown for the emergence of the flying things, Im hoping to get another Black valley adventure in before they awaken to terrorize us wildcampers. !! Nice easy led back commentary as usual. Loved it Gerry. ATVB Colin
Cheers Colin, the weather was unreal for that time of year, though you felt it in the evenings☀️❄️ I will be fine though when I get my 'hot bivy' idea up and running😊 I think the time window to avoid the midges is narrowing with frightening speed🦟 Appreciate the feedback from the master raconteur👍😊
It sure was a fantastic weekend for it. I was over on Curran hill that day. Did Croghaun then Sunday. Spectacular few days. You really do get brilliant shots. Keep up the great work
I feel like I say the same thing for each of your videos 😄 Absolutely class, your shots are fantastic. It looked like perfect hiking weather and you did a great job fair play. I'll be watching out for the camping video, hopefully the weather held up for you 🤞
Cheers Jason, it was pretty much perfect hiking weather☀️ all right and it is always cool to get clear views from the mountain top, especially in Mayo😊 the weather did hold up and I had 2 great nights wild camping😊
Cheers Martin, Achill is beautiful from below and from a height it is glorious. The short and sharp climb from sea level is well worth it for the views from the top on a clear day😊
Hi Gerry, Mayo is looking beautiful this time of year! Top of a mountain in a t-shirt, in March? Crazy weather we've been having lately. You really captured the stunning beauty and vibes of Slievemore here. The graveyard has a real sort of melancholic beauty to it too. I enjoyed watching from start to end!
Cheers Will, the colours at this time of year are really cool. I didn't expect to be wearing that t-shirt☀️ though it was definitely jacket for the evenings when the temperature dropped away like a stone❄️ Slievemore is a beautiful mountain, whether viewed from close up or from afar. The graveyard is pretty bleak at the foot of the mountain and with views over much of the island and is of course beside the Deserted Village which has its own tales.
Great video Gerry, Mayo is almost as beautiful as Donegal 😉😆 You certainly made the most of that spell of good weather. Achill looked amazing for your visit, colours really vibrant, looked like the middle of June! I hope there's a Part 2? 🙂
Cheers Niall, I think it is a pretty close contest between Mayo and Donegal😊 It was one of the two and Mayo won out, even though it is a much longer journey. The colours were super and it wasn't just as sharp as it could have been with an easterly wind. There will be a part 2😊
Wow Slieve More looks amazing. Haven't hiked in Achill yet. After watching this I will get there soon. It looks amazing. Great weather for it Gerry. Hot with no midge. Happy days. Some nice camping spots there.
Lovely views from Slievemore Gerry! When I was last on Achill I camped at Doogort Beach - I had the bike with me so I didn’t manage to get to the top of Slievemore, nice to now see the views from up top! A great spot to head to with the lovely weather - no doubt you had a wonderful camp too 😊 Another video of the next leg I hope!
Cheers Miriam, the beach would be a brilliant area to camp around the dunes👍 It is a fantastic mountain, especially if climbing from Doogart and with clear weather. it was a long drive, though nothing closer was calling to me that weekend. I had 2 nights around Croaghaun which was fantastic and might have done some more filming😊
@@gerrymcveigh oh wow - I look forward to seeing the sights! I had the flying artists when camping in Doogort that time…after a long cycle and rushed dinner - I stayed sheltered in the tent looking out at the views! Ah well 🤷♀️ It was still a great trip! I look forward to your Chapter 2 👍
Great video Gerry. We walked it in April a few years ago with similar bright clear and warm weather, walked up from the deserted village and down into Doogort. Your video brings back memories of the amazing views there.
I'm new to your channel. I've only started to get into hiking and camping. What a beautiful video. Thank you for sharing. Looking forward to seeing more
Class Gerry, I could almost feel the crystal clear water on the beach lapping over my feet😂 Thats a a class route up that ridge with amazing views, you should work for the tourist office as you have convinced me to put another one on the bucket list! Thanks for sharing!
Cheers Gary, crystal clear and freezing❄️😊 Achill and the whole of Mayo are just such fantastic places for walking👣 Well worth a visit for a few days or longer👍 Thank you for watching👍
Totally agree Achill and Mayo is stunning and that good weather can make all the difference and bring all those glorious views, though it is cool to be lost in the mist sometimes😊
Wow! You got a fab day Gerry! How do you do it? We have never been on Achill! Sadly so many brilliant places we have never been to in the whole of Ireland, both north and south. So few years left to do it too! Aaaaah! Beautiful day, beautiful views!
Tom you have a great sense of exploration and adventure and I am sure there are many more travels to come from you😊Maybe even to the beauty of Achill👍👍
Wonderful! What a nice spring day! I enjoyed seeing Slievemore before the hike, to get an idea of what it looks like and how you were going to go up next to the rough, rocky area. Enjoyed all the details and the amazing views! It’s great to see the coast and islands and the sea…. and I always love seeing the sheep! 😄💖💕🥾🥾
Absolutely fantastic Gerry... Amazing video, again with the obligatory stream shot ;) ... I didn't go up the good side so I'll do that this summer for sure 😊 beautiful place along there for sure.. Really enjoyed that Ger.. I presume your doing the Mamturks challenge ? Thks for the vlog made my Friday nite, Merk
Cheers, there weren't many streams so I did well to get one at the end😊 The weather was slighty different to your recent trip to Scotland❄️❄️ The east side definitely has more drama👍 I am not really a challenge person (except for the Few Sheehy Challenge) and prefer the hours it takes to walk and film😊 Take care on whatever Challenge you are doing👍
@@gerrymcveigh thks Ger :) I prefer the slow hike and take it all in. Thinking about starting mamturks but not registering (even though have ticket) and wild camp instead of the one day finish. It's way too beautiful to rush. I'll see how the weather goes. Great vlogs Gerry keep em coming you're a legend ☘️
Terrific, Gerry. I enjoyed seeing the approach from the NE, as I did it from the W from the deserted village. Your ascent definitely looks more interesting....though the views from the top are the same anyway 😆. I will be there again finally in September and might try to fit in Slievemore if I get the time and weather. I want to do Croaghaun though and re-visit Curraun, as I agree that is a cracker of a hill with astonishing views east and west to Achill Sound and the wild expanse of Ballycroy and the Nephin Beg range...which I also want to try and visit for the first time. So I have a lot to fit in with the few days I have before heading up the north Donegal .So many hills....so few holidays available and limited budget! . Thanks for the great content as always.
James, it sounds like September will be a great month for you👍 Slievemore from the NE is definitely a more interesting climbing experience, though the views from the top are stunning no matter the approach👍 Croaghaun is a stunning mountain and in good weather the views again are absolutely unbeatable😊 I love the Curraun Hills and the Nephin Begs too. It sounds like you have some cool choices to make about all these wonderful mountains😊
David, there is nothing like climbing up along that ridge on the eastern side of the mountain, though going down that way means you aren't constantly looking over your shoulder at the glorious views😊 I had superb weather for Slievemore and then on along the coast to Croaghaun which makes all the difference☀😊
T Shirt weather? How did that happen gerry? It's a super area to be illuminated by good weather for sure. I can see why you sing its praises. That's like a little big mountain - you get a big mountain feel with the corrie but it doesn't seem to be that tough or should I say complicated a climb. Ireland never fails to inspire. Mark, the t-shirt weather was only fleeting and we have been back to normal service😊 It is a pretty straightforward climb though staying close to the corrie edge gives a bit of drama and it is in a stunning location for views👍 The camp worked out well too👍
Cheers Michael, I did make it to Saddle Head, though not to camp. I am always way too optimistic with my timings when walking and filming so I camped at Annagh Strand that night and then moved on to Saddle Head and Croaghaun the next day😊
Aw Gerry! You can pick'em! Beautiful. You can clearly see how much you love that place too. Great video.
Cheers Alyn, I think Mayo and Donegal are stamped very firmly in my heart❤️😊
Welcome back to Mayo Gerry, great video as usual thanks for sharing.
Mick, thank you👍 and always great to go back to Mayo as there is nowhere else quite like it👍
