I wanted a federal job because I'm patriotic and my college major is Political Science, I also feel that there is job security and more benefits. Unfortunately i couldn't join the military for medical reasons, but I'm happy where I am in the DOJ and aspire to grow every day. Thank you for your service Armand!!! 🇺🇸

@@danielland3767 everybody has those loose responses. Private pays more blah blah etc. The only jobs federal can't compete with is tech. All others such as general admin, you're average person does better in federal. Come on let's tell the whole story. You're never going to be an executive making more than 100k in private. When you're a fed, you're almost guaranteed to make gs 13 just by coming to work being average.
Let's talk about unions, you have to tell the whole story. Even when you're not union you're still covered by OPM guidelines which is basically union without being union. It makes it hard to fire a fed, that's good protection for you and your family.

But I'm honestly saying it's not for everyone and besides tech their are job that pay better, have people found them no, is their contractor work as well that's not tech, sure is.

@@danielland3767 Me either, I'm stating the facts. For your average working class person working 30 yrs and making 60k. Fed is the best thing for you. You know in private, on a random Tuesday, management just fires everyone without notice while you vested 20yrs and worked your way up to 100k. Now you have to start over. In federal service, once your gs grade is yours, they never can touch your money even if you take a grade decrease, they do a grade step match your pay. No job in private will do that.

Hi Armand, if you transfer from one agency to another into a lateral position with different series same job description (from a 0950 to 0306), with 6mos already in your grade. Do you have to wait another 52 weeks to get your next promotion or does the 6mos count towards your 52 weeks in grade?

I am in the federal hiring process now (pending a TJO right now anytime). I have a cruise (vacation) that has been planned and paid for about 1 year ago for this upcoming year in January 2024. I was trying to avoid switching jobs until after this trip was over with, but I just couldn't pass up this job opportunity with the Federal Government. If I'm hired on (presented a final job offer) before January 2024, how do I present this vacation that I already paid for and planned and do not want to miss out on with my family? As stated, I do not have my TJO yet, but I know they are trying to move as fast as they can with the hiring process. (They already told me they want to hire me and am waiting on the TJO). How can I address this vacation I have planned without them hopefully not pulling my TJO? Should I keep my mouth shut until the FJO? Even if that's the case, how do I approach it then? Please reply. Thank you.

Congrats on the upcoming job offer! Do not say anything until after accepting the FJO.
      1. The government might shutdown and that will impact your timeline (perhaps for the better)
      2. You can negotiate your start date to an extent
      3. You might be able to work something out with your supervisor/office once you start.

I am concerned that SO MANY JOBS are available in the federal government. Voters do not seem to mind that taxes are increasing and ALL FEDERAL CIVIL SERVICE EMPLOYEES ARE PAID WITH TAX MONEY! They have great security, unfortunately, due to unions.
Employment here should be carefully monitored. We need employees who do the government’s duties. THESE DUTIES SEEM TO BE GREATLY INCREASING WITH NEW PROGRAMS AND SERVICES. WHERE DOES THIS GO? The BIDEN ADMINISTRATION HAS KEPT EMPLOYMENT FIGURES WITHIN REASON BY HIRING PEOPLE INTO THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT. THIS IS NOT SUSTAINABLE SINCE THE END RESULT WOULD BE A HIGHLY BLOATED AND INEFFICIENT OPERATION. SMALLER GOVERNMENT IN BOTH FEDERAL AND STATE REALMS IS THE BETTER SOLUTION. GOVERNMENT WORK, UNLIKE PRIVATE SECTOR JOBS PROVIDES NO INHERENT MOTIVATIONS, DEPENDING ON WHATEVER CURRENT ADMINISTRATION DESIRES. THIS EASILY MANIPULATES THE WORKERS WHO HAVE LITTLE SAY IN FOCUS.

Government SHOULD be better work life balance so that one who works at any level gives quality. I can attest that this is not the case when one is a federally contracted state government worker. It still has the element of a for profit, ruthless organization.
Private sector, unless you are executive, would you have anything comparable to due process and job security. You may get paid a little bit more; however, that is where it ends.
You tell me when I had it better
Private employer I had: 120 all at once paid leave at the beginning of every year, 401k match where they matched half of what I put in up to 5% of my salary, 6 federal holidays, double the premium on health insurance and $3k deductible, at will employment, birthday day off (which some may think was a bonus), 2% bonus, 12.5% raise after probation
State government: 7.5 hours of paid leave every month, 11.5 federal holidays (.5 for Easter, three federal holidays not observed, but given 2 days off for Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years to make up for it), pension after serving 5 fiscal years (5.5 years since I started off the fiscal year), half the premium off health insurance and $1k deductible, 13% raise from the county after serving one and a half month (lucked out because legislation was passed the year I was hired), the state just started up again with raises of 5% every year (after 10 years of not having any raises), 6% probation raise, I think due process (not sure)

I'm in HR with the VA and I thought about going back to the private sector for a higher salary, but the security, and the ladder position, and the pension are too much to give up for an extra 5-10k a year. The VA is working on giving HR a SSR so that would bump assistants up to 50-60k range.

@@ZekeOwen24 I think it is a give and take.
If one could live better on a higher salary and give up good benefits and is a risk taker, not really worried about job security...they would take private.
If you work a government job, but can only afford to live in an apartment in a shady part of the city and have better benefits and security; one would choose to stay.
The ideal would be that the government pays enough to offset cost of living.
I wish state would have a program where they offset state taxes on property taxes and any other service one has to pay for, if in a state with state taxes.

What even is a federally contracted state government worker? You mean a federal contract or a state contract worker? Also your benefits as a state worker is much different than a federal employee...There are way more lateral opportunities as a federal worker, not so much as a state worker. Also, depending which state you work for, your retirement pension (if that state even has a pension program) is lower than FERs.

    • @wewhoareabouttodiesaluteyo9303
      @wewhoareabouttodiesaluteyo9303 9 месяцев назад

@@em34ev3r A federally contracted, state worker, is a state employee, who was hired in as a state government worker by the state and has to do work for the federal government.
This is not to be confused with a contracted worker as these are private organizations who are doing the work for the federal government.
The federal government does its work this way so that way it does not have to specialize in that particular area and/or allocate extra resources to do what states should be doing.
There are quite a few differences in benefits from a federal worker and a state worker; however, there are similarities as well.
Go to Armand's past videos on benefits and I compare the benefits I have to the federal benefits.
Retirement wise, I do not get a match on a 401k, which the federal government gets. I get a pension plan tied to an annuity just like the federal government does. Military is where its at though because their pension is one of the only ones to date that adjusts to cost of living. I think both federal and state have annuity pensions.
