    ( • Billy Connolly Tells J... )
    Here’s a short batch of other moments from Tom’s 1990s late-night show.
Compliments to myyyclips3 for the David Steinberg bit - I’ve tried to
enhance his old VHS tape a little here, in terms of color and contrast, but
that clip is still very rough

I was a regular caller to the Tom Snyder radio show back in the 90's. I was on about 10 times with various celebrities and Tom loved my jokes. His favorite was when I was on with Rita Coolidge and Tom told the joke, "What do you get when you play a country music record backwards -- you get your truck back, your wife back..." We all laughed and I said, "What do you get when you play new age music backwards?" Tom, still chuckling, said, "Tell us, Dan." "New Age music." Silence for a second, then Tom absolutely erupted in laughter, and I heard him tell that joke twice on his show after that, and one of those times he mentioned me by name, "That was from a caller named Dan from Hot Springs, Arkansas, and I guarantee he's listening now." I was on his last show and got a little emotional even though he warned everyone not to be, and I regret that. When his show ended he sent me an autographed portrait with the words, "To Dan Williams, a real favorite." It was destroyed when the apartment building I was living in burned to the ground a year and a day after Tom's death -- July 30, 2008. It hurts my heart to this day that both of them are gone forever. I could honestly cry right now, just thinking about it. I loved you, Tom. You kept my spirits up when I barely had anything but a radio to my name. Well, never mind, I am crying.

I know not a lot happens in new age music, so I think I got the joke, but wasn’t sure.
So I just looked the joke up online and found someone who actually played new age music clips backward, and you know what? They don’t sound bad at all - for new age music:

Back when the wee hours WERE the wee hours, there was something comforting about knowing that Tom was there. I sure miss watching the pictures as they fly through the air.

I remember when Tom's show ended and Craig Kilbourne replaced him. Ugh. I couldn't stand dude. When Ferguson arrived he got it. Even though he was totally different than what Tom did, in some ways their brand of dry humor was the same. I dont watch Colbert at all. Nothing but politics. Heck that's what they all became, even Letterman in the end, missing a valuable lesson Carson.
I guess it says something that I'm a 39 yr old that spends more time watching Carson, Rickles, and Ferguson on RUclips than actually turning on my TV.

Yes sick of the politics and that's why I missed these older guys but especially Tom Snyder and I actually remember watching a lot of the TOMORROW shows and later the LATE LATE SHOW .
There was a very good audio book about Johnny Carson that used to be here and it was written by the guy who was his best friend and his lawyer .
It actually was very good and there a lot about him people didn't know ... but he could also have this dark side and is one football player said Johnny when he was drinking could be a nasty drunk .
Believe it or not in the end of his life he was pretty much all alone .
I would have loved someone to written a really good biography about Tom Snyder .

I was so thrilled later with this Tomorrow Show and The Late Late Show he just has a way of reaching out and making you a part of his fun and witty world .
