“There’s a good movie in there somewhere” I agree! It’s actually a great movie that has been poorly edited. Lots could be cut

I actually really like Derek Jarman as an artist, but I think his usually unhinged approach brings about amazing memorable stuff and also grating, borderline unwatchable stuff, sometimes within the same movie. I appreciate how poetic this movie is, as are all his films, but it's just a bit too much for me. I'd rather throw on The Last of England or Blue for a casual watch.

Wearing a Crass tee and you love TG, that's a great start already. I'll check Liquid Sky out, thanks x

Now here's someone who recognizes fine British arts and culture. Liquid Sky is pretty shrill and unbearable but also charming and worth a look nonetheless. Seeing it in 4k in a theater was an improvement

Its an object lesson in nihilism and dystopian anarchy. Its queer, punk and confrontational which was groundbreaking for its time

It really is a who's who in a way for its time and very, VERY of its time at that. Jarmin's work is really hit-or-miss for me, I much prefer Last of England.

@@BrianKishreviews I believe Jubilee 1978 needs better editing and cutting down. Its episodic which makes it harder to watch as the narrative doesn't flow like a usual script. Where this art house film is champion is in its questions it raises. Punk was all about anarchism and dispensing with rules and conventions. But when you rip everything down and strip it all away what you left with? The gang of women are violent and aggressive but they ultimately circum to a fascist male leader. Its a critique on punk and a critique on revolution. The film reflects back the darkness of the period too. I'm sorry you didn't enjoy it. 😔

Far from ugly, there are passages in this film which are hypnotic in their beauty.

there can be beauty in ugliness. I gotta say, I much prefer some of Jarman's other films like Last of England and Blue

I liked Liquid Sky and Suburbia. I hated this film.
