This unironically looks like it could be popular if it was a flash game made in the 2010s
IKR!!!
It looks and feels about as good as a flash game too
This does have flash vibes tbh
It Lacks the Richness of Cuphead's Animation Prowess, it's baffling it's the price that it is, I understand only 2 people made this, the Potential is there somewhere, and the ideas are there, bit they really, really could've really used a crew for this, this could've been more Ambitious ngl
Kingdom rush would still solo
This game really serves to highlight how important good sound design is. The lack of sound effects causes everything to feel alot more lifeless and empty than it really should.
Yea it feels extremely unfinished.
Yea it's giving an empty feeling 😕
Exactly, and the music just being so dull. I loved cuphead's fast paced jazz soundtrack for bosses, and fast ragtime piano for run n gujs
I think it highlights that they didn’t know what they were doing for the entire development process. Everything looks badly planned and rarely thought out. Just art and ideas
Cállate, el juego en si es una mierda, si queres algo de calidad jugá cuphead
You don’t learn to appreciate sound effects until you see how lifeless a game feels without them.
It's so soulless in fact that watching this video literally made me go into my game, and fix up all the flaws that i couldn't notice before watching this video lmao
@@gamemesa Will you actually finish your game before you release it?
@@thelivingdrawing2262trust me its mainly not the sound effects that makes this game feel empty. A lot of the art styles don't match up and animations + particles arent well done. You can watch cuphead gameplay muted and it feels much more polished
@@happy_run Oh I’m aware. The sound effects were just the most obvious thing that makes the game feel completely soulless, incomplete, and like a bad mobile bootleg.
You said lifeless
The Beethoven boss is the most visually interesting with the coolest mechanics. So of course it lasts all of 20 seconds because that’s all they could come up with.
And the finisher was his fingers got tied up, individual, also he was not even using his left hand to pound those keys.
Imagine if he actually played more than 2 notes at a time
And that's the tragedy of products that are nothing more than clones of popular works: They'll never live up to their full potential.
@@LuznoLindoIndeed, true. This game is deader than Cuphead, actually.
@@Fredcat11 Absolutely. The very definition of "dead on arrival".
That was a nice demo, can’t wait for the full version to come out
This is not a demo though.

To be honest, the devs were super motivated and reliant to make this game through all the hate it had got through like the past 5 years. Who knows? Maybe the devs will actually take this mess as a learning experience and bounce back with a(maybe a more original) game that could be semi popular!
respect for the devs even publishing this game throughout all the hate, even if it’s a unfinished mess
This game honestly makes me appreciate the years of effort that the devs behind Cuphead have put in terms of sound, artstyle and animation as it truly makes it feel as if you're watching an old-school cartoon. This game on the other hand mearly just feels like one of those flash games on the internet based on said cartoons.
I think the main thing that kills it for me isn't the animation or anything but the sound design. The music is pretty good but I can barely hear ANYTHING ELSE over it, and some things flat out don't even have sound even if they should, like you know, guns.
Maybe they should have spent a little more time working on the game.
@Replay_Gamer maybe it was just a cash grab
I don't know why they used the HUD from Shadow of the Colossus or the same portal effect more than 100 times for everything
most egregious moment was seeing the octopus use its horn attack without any sound
I thought it was a video cus I was watching an "all bosses + ending" video and thought that there was a problem with the sound effects or they used only music, but nope, it's how the game is
It cool to see people making fangames for cuphead.
Uhhh
It's not a fangame, it's an indepedent game
@@saltysalt844 that cost more than the original (im in poland so im gonna say it in pln) here Cuphead cost 70zł with no dlc but the Enchanted Portals 90zł
They copied a lot of things from Cuphead but there's a lot of original ideas and the art is nice
Bro roasted the whole game
This game looks like a flash version inspired on the trailer
The game feels like it wanted to be a point and click, a run and gun, a platformer, and a side scroller all at once there’s just so much but so little going on at once…
And the fact it could have been done well since cuphead did most of these all at once is crazy
@@dogedoge5596
But then you realized this was made by 2 people from Spain

@@guywhoateallthepizza1031MDHR is a small team that also hand animated everything
@@guywhoateallthepizza1031definitely doesn't excuse the price though
Why in the world does it cost 20$
It looks good for being made by two people. But I do have some complaints.
The difficulty seems to come and go randomly.
It looks like the came up with boss ideas but didn't know where to put them.
Some death animations for the bosses would be nice. The battles just immediately end and jump to the next screen.
Yea and the animations a little too smooth and when its too smooth it feels uncanny to me for some reason.
@@Pineaple878No, smooth is good.
Yes, and the projectiles' design feels really out of place when it's at the same place with the boss. And many projectiles are just too slow, there should be a balance of fast and slow, to make that more rush feeling, for example werner werman.
The animations can be better, for example, the fireballs shooting from lava just seems like it's done in Scratch. (also the art style really reminds me of scratch)
The boss themes are just way too dull and they aren't really able to create a rushed (in a good way) feeling like cuphead does.
With the lack of sound effects and the bad sound effect design, everything just seems so lifeless and dull, especially the damage sound effect is just a popular punch sound effect, not even original.
The music pace can be more quick especially for run n guns, for example the fast-paced ragtime jazz in cuphead. And the background of the final boss just doesn't fit in with the artstyle. It just look like some cloud png downloaded and just changed the colors. It really doesn't fit in.
As well as that, some of the enemies and projectiles aren’t even animated😭. Like in World 3, the rolling monkeys are not animated but instead one picture that is just being rotated. Also another thing to point out is the inconsistencies with the animation. Like you could see one enemy/boss having a smooth animation while another entity is animated having a terrible frame rate.
@@fredlueplaystudios2325 Fluid animation is cool and all, but here, it feels as if it's coming at the cost of movements and poses losing a sense of weight, imho.
This more feels like an early access, not a full release
True
Indev
Y'know, there are some good ideas in the game, but I feel they should've spent more time on it, especially on audio
Correct. your right about that 😕
I can forgive them not having smooth animation like Cuphead, but that sound design was atrocious.
Yea! I think you're right.
Yeah, they could have had way better sound design for the weapons. But even Cuphead had better animation. He doesn't just stand still while shooting his arms move a little. And he does that thing with his legs when your not moving him around
Yeah now people have a real reason to be Angry and hate the game
I'm impressed that just two people were able to make this game and... that's it. I can see there was passion in this project but the result is very amateurish. That could be forgivable if the game didn't cost the same as Cuphead lol
this game feels a 5-15ish dollar game
@@protocat-w-3197 i’m not going to cap. It feels like a zero dollar game. I don’t believe anyone should be making money off of this
This game feels like an educational game for children that somehow ended up being ported to console
Honestly it just makes me appreciate Cuphead more because of how badly a project like this can turn out.
It's not impresive, they where incompetent, they shouldn't try to do what Cuphead did with a fraction of the experience, budget, time and team. If they worked on a smaller game the result could've been much better.
The sound effect when defeating a enemy sounds like the bite of 87’.
WAS THAT THE TERRIBLE GAME FROM 23???!!!!!
Do you mean the bite of 83 look it up
Was that the bite of 87?!!
This looks like a a game you can find on cool math games
Ok… I wish the best for the game’s creators (they’ve clearly put a lot of time and effort into this and actually got a game made so good for them) but this game does seem like a letdown. Even disregarding the Cuphead inspirations, it looks like the game could’ve used more time in development. Hopefully, the game’s creators keep at it and continue making games; I wish them the best in their future endeavors!
Things that could make this game better.
Better sound effects
More sound effects
Guided missile starter power
Better walking and jumping physics
New walking animation.
The game feels different from how the trailer showed it.
Tutorial, lower random proyectiles things and try develop predictable patterns for attacks and obstacles, better improvement to loop lvl designs, better transitions between lvls
I've read a comment that said that the trailer looks more like and animation than actual gameplay
@@arikbemitheghazt6006 Yeah it was
It also improves running and gun because these stages have 3 to 4 enemies and are giant corridors with very little variation
And boss animation that actually match their attacks
Idk anything game dev but how did they downgrade the animation ???? Looking at the trailer you can see the animation look decently good
They made the trailer look good so they could get more funds.
@@dylansuperti214 but here what i dont get it
Why dont just reuse the animation for the game ???
The game look so chopy and at time not even animated
Considering the Kickstarter didn’t make quite well, they most likely made the animations choppier to make the game's size and resolution easier to handle, and most likely the animations made AFTER the trailer also had less budget, so they must have also made that for It to fit the rest of the thematic
Alright, after watching the entire video, here are my thoughts:
The game seems horribly boring to play. All of the platformer sections seem like the same exact thing copy and pasted but with a theme change from level to level. The stage changes don’t make any sense sometimes, and I get that they’re going through portals, but I’m still utterly confused on why we went to Beethoven and then to a weird Cerberus dog in the same world?
Like, the first world, you go through a spooky forest and then a spooky mansion and then fight a witch. Makes sense!
Second world, alien spaceship to digital computer to a cow mastermind, makes a ton of sense and I love the idea of a cow being in charge of an alien spaceship for once.
Third world is where things get a liiiitle confusing. Jungle to jungle temple to a beach, it makes sense if you think about it more as an island thing, but the sudden pirate thing somewhat threw me off. Whatever, I suppose it works.
Then we go from a castle laboratory to a random mine? Feels really weird. The only thing connecting it is the frogs. For the chicken world I can kind of understand why it’s so strange, we’re going through different time periods.
I like the art style of the game and the fact that in certain bosses (especially the final one) the style changes. It’s really cute and interesting. The cutscenes feel super bland, though. Oftentimes they show up for barely enough time for me to register as a still image and then BAM, here’s the next level. It feels like some kind of flash game, which is totally fine! I love flash games! Unfortunately, this is, to my knowledge, a twenty dollar game. The game would be enjoyable if it was a flash game or even like, 0.99-6 dollars (im not a game dev so it could easily be more, my personal limit would be like 10), but it feels too empty to really spend money on. There’s a noticeable lack of sound effects so everything just feels really lifeless and awkward to look at.
The shatter effect in the final boss makes me want to cry, though. Who thought that was okay!?!?
I don’t often like talking about price scaling to time spent, because it’s really not a good indicator of a good game. Games that are one hour long can be just as wonderful as ones that are sixty, but this just isn’t it. It’s one hour long and twenty dollars, and there’s not even good gameplay or anything to back it up. Just feels like it’s way too overpriced.
It’s impressive for something made by two people, there’s some fun ideas, I love the style change, a big fan of the ideas of the bosses, but other than that it definitely doesn’t look like it’s worth playing, which is pretty sad. Had high hopes for this game.
AYOOOO HOW COULD HE TYPE THAT MUCH 😲
The animation is great, I love all the funny details. Hoe could they forget about the sounds? Its beyond me...

This game would’ve generally been at its best if the sound effects were utilized well. The only thing we can hear are the jumping, shooting, shielding, and balloon popping of the defeated enemies. And the music remains the same throughout the entire stage, even continuing to the boss fight. Just shows how important sound is to games. but I will give kudos to the people who worked on it. they have a lot of courage bringing their artistry to consoles.
I like the final boss idea with the book turning into multiple things, i especially like it’s wizard form
It really feels like one of those classic Cartoon Network/Nickelodeon website flash games, but without a beloved IP to back it up and it costs money.
I hate that some of the levels sections are looped so much just to pad out the run time.
Ik right
@AndyVDog1 Even than. The fame is only 40 mintues long...Actually think about that.
The reason there's so many demands damage sponge enemies is because that's was the only way they could pad the game, without breaking bank.
Yeah, they seem to drag on a little because of that
Not just looped, but also AI generated
This game is actually quite nice to look at, the animations and backgrounds are solid. I like the style shift to the Tim Burton "corpse bride" look during the witch fight. It would feel a lot more complete with better sound design.
Gameplay is awful though if you played it you know what I mean.
I am falling asleep watching this gameplay omgg
I really should have just watched this video instead of blowing $20 to experience the game myself. It's worse than I expected, and I don't even have the motivation to finish it because the difficulty and pacing are fucking agonizing compared to Cuphead.

Geez this game feels so... generic.

These “run and gun” levels feel like they go on forever.
You don’t even RUN, they just briskwalk!
This game is NOT finished, it feels like it's in the bug fixing stage where they fixed the bugs but forgot to polish it
When it was playable, but not yet enjoyable
the whole foundation is a bug. this game was not even built with a "we wanna make a good unique game" mindset. they just copied cuphead but in bad
@@RizzerixLP That’s right. Cuphead's creators even had to mortgage their houses to make the idea a reality, but these guys were limited to an unsuccessful crowdfunding campaign. In spite of that, according to some rumors, they still got 200 thousand dollars from somewhere and it seems they managed to spend it in the wrong way (because 200 thousand dollars is not a small amount of money and they could make a game of higher quality than this one), and then they decided to put this shit on the internet because of lack of any financing. Bruh.
I absolutely do want more game like Cuphead to exist, but this looks more shoddy than the trailer from 2019. No sound effects, unfitting sound effects, elements out of sync, weird transitions, too much on screen, frankly a bit of a mess.
For a game made by two people with a small budget, its impressive. I just wish they figured out what type of game they wanted to make and did that.
This needs some major work, but the consept of the final boss is sick. Also seeing them change styles for bosses is insanely cool
It feels unfinished, like so close to it being a complete game, but too far to be any good.
sound design aside, it doesn't do anything to distinguish itself from cuphead. inspiration is one thing, but this literally just feels like a reskin. it has some good ideas, the animation's alright, but there's really nothing special in this game that you can't find in cuphead you know?
The orchestration is very well made
We will not say it's a Cuphead rip-off, but at this point it really asks for it.

@@weirdcelebass Well, it tries badly to hide it. Not to be harsh, but it really shows how the gameplay takes literally from the game. And 2 people making seems indicate this contrast. It should be called a fan-game at this point.

Personally I actually like the game itself but there's one flaw: lack of impact and weak tone on bosses. What makes good boss fights is always the serious tone and something which would make player experience euphoria while fighting them. Of course you can make the bosses itself have goofy personality, but it doesn't stops from making more dynamic aesthetics for them. Also I feel like music should be adjusted, cuz it gives bland feel to the game. Still huge props to Xixo team for not giving up after massive backlash!
would also be nice if the bosses had more than just 2 attacks, the beethoven fight couldve been so much more
I had a feeling this game would suck and I was correct. This is like something the Angry Video Game Nerd would review if it came out 20 years earlier.

Congrats to the devs for getting this out despite all the hate and “clone” allegations, but that being said, yikes 😬, this game definitely needed more time and recourses

And entire lvl and bosses repeating themselves

• Appalling sound effect ballance
• Level design't
God this feels so lifeless…. Made me really appreciate the effort that goes into sound design. The lack of sounds effects just makes me feel like I’m just watching this. I don’t know how else I can explain it.
Also some animation being loop without any relevance to the gameplay really sucks out the immersion, such as the 2nd boss animation not matching the attacks

Pianist boss is my favorite too bad it's so short
It’s a shame the gameplay of this game isn’t very good, cause the animations is alright in some parts, even though sometimes it feels half assed.
I don't hate it because it gets the idea from cuphead, but because the game is not really fleshed out, run 'n' gun stages are flat and free of variety with the same 3 enemies color coated to have different attack speeds and that's it, and the bosses have 1 or 2 attack patterns and that's it, the cutaways used to move the stroy forward could've been anticipated by an end screen, and could've gone for a more original aesthetic, like a book one or an animated one, the visuals are also highly inconsistent, with lines having different thicknesses, and backgrounds of different levels being both water colored and outlined in different occasions
it’s pretty cool for team of 2 people 💗 i hope they will work on sound effects though
