    The future of Animal Crossing is that we either get all of the features at launch or the game sells 15 million units less than New Horizons

    I'm quite pessimistic that AC will ever go back to it's roots again. They dialed down the sassiness of the villagers with each title in the series to what we got now. Sadly NH did too well and i guess they will draw the false conclusions and release even more dollhouse-gameplay that is shallow than actually make the island, the NPCs and Villagers interesting again.

    • @Saixilein
      @Saixilein 4 месяца назад +4

      I really would love to set into a village again, with maybe "this one neighbor" you just hate, cause he is rough & sassy. But at some point his character changed and you start liking him. I want to be a villager, like all the others. I dont want to be "God", who decides wich villager is living in wich place, moving their houses at 2 am, dont allow them to move out and changing their Houses, Decorations and all... NH feels more like a clunky Mapeditor, then an animal crossing game.
      They should bring us Happy Home Designer 2 - with all the Stuff from NH and turn AC6 into a more New Leaf experience, with more focus on NPCs, activitys, minigames, dialouges, BUILDING up friendships etc.

  • @voidoflight2420

    I'm worried for the future of the series. New Horizons sidelined the stuff that I loved about these games in favor for decorating. All the praise the game has been getting and major points of criticism seem to be around the "Free updates," which makes me feel like the team itself most likely are going to double down on the aspects that I disliked most. I'm hoping that's not the case, and that they'll use New Horizon's engine as a basis for the future- but I'm going to have to see what the new game is like before I say if I'm even excited for it or not.
    One thing I feel is for certain is that AC6 probably won't sell as well as New Horizons did, given that it had a boost due to the circumstances at the time.

    I feel like the best route to take Animal Crossing 6 is by having it be a combination of what made both New Leaf and New Horizons great as those are the best games in the series of all time. I would like it if the next game returned to living in a town with much better character interactions while keeping the decorating aspects like terraforming and placing furniture outside.

    I think a big thing is certainly adding more character to the well characters of the game. Something people loved about the originals is that they actually were somewhat interesting to talk to whereas in the newer games there’s just nothing there. I watched a video by someone playing it more recently and they had barely spoken to their villagers at all. It’s just more boring and pointless so it’s why people end up just caring about aesthetics more than anything.

    i want to feel positive on AC's future given they have a blueprint on how they can improve NH's core mechanics and QOL, but i can easily see them getting too comfortable and putting less work in now they they know what they can get away with. the update model is guaranteed to stay and if splatoon is anything to go off by, it could be average/underwhelming. simply finishing the game than adding to it
    terraforming and island decorating are great addition but i hope they focus on the in-game community aspect again. everything is so disconnected with NPCs having less to do and say (tho id argue villagers still say interesting things, but you really gotta hunt for it like in the DLC or museum)

    I actually didn't mind the way content came out with ACNH, my problem becomes more evidence when I tried a new play through. You're basically forced to rush day to day activities in order to unlock landscaping, proper path laying, etc. You should really be able to do those things without needing to fill your map with villagers and get a certain ranking. It would be nice to get your map going, having a core group of maybe 3-4 villagers and really get to know them.

    By far the biggest issue, is just making the whole game a creative mode. The charm of the series is to have things out of our control. Neighbors who come and go on their own, not a predictable schedule, and a world that feels overall like it continues even when you aren’t playing.
    The game just feels like a very algorithm where we are a god working along side it. Boring.

    If by "influential" you mean "forgettable cash grab", I agree 100%. NH is a hollow shell compared to any previous Animal Crossing game. The first game was truly influential. Wild World was influential. New Leaf was influential. NH took all of the fun features and character interactions that were built into the games up to that point and smashed them head first into a brick wall. Brain-dead characters. Ugly, limited clothing. Crafting that became tedious after a very short time. That awful terraforming without enough props to allow you to truly create some amazing landscapes. So many half-finished ideas they rushed out to take advantage of people being stuck at home for COVID...I hope the next AC game released corrects these awful mistakes. NH was the first Animal Crossing game I actually sold after a year, I was so bored by its empty world.

    • @Protendo
      @Protendo  6 месяцев назад

      Influence ≠ quality. ACNH is my least favourite Animal Crossing game but underselling its impact doesn’t accomplish anything. New Horizons’ success sparked a whole new life sim uprising in the indie space, completely shifted the dynamic of Nintendo’s top selling franchises, and created an actual cultural phenomenon. These are factors that will 100% pave the series’ future. Influence is defined by impact, not by whether you and I consider it to be as good as it’s predecessors.

    Saying this isn't the responsibility of the devs is being delusional when new horizons launched as it did and focused on what it did because kyogoku and nogami clearly focused on building aspects more than life sim. Not everything is corporate even more when things people complain aren't done by executive. It's creative decisions and most of the problems people see are... That, not executive decisions per se

    • @Protendo
      @Protendo  6 месяцев назад +8

      The developers’ vision was clearly wider than the time they were given to complete the project. Terraforming was New Horizons’ primary big new draw - it makes complete sense that upon realizing their ambitions were beyond their timeframe, they’d focus on completing the thing that set the game apart from its predecessors. I can’t fault the team for choosing to direct their focus somewhere when directing it everywhere would be impossible under the time they had.
      I never claimed that the devs have no responsibility in the game they create, but that ACNH’s launch quality isn’t something I’d blame on them. If they had a Mario Wonder-esque loose deadline, I’m certain things would’ve been a lot fuller.

    • @Wackaz
      @Wackaz 6 месяцев назад +5

      Absolutely this. The director was new for this game and although her work on New Leaf was clearly of a good quality she was clearly inexperienced going into a directorial role and her vision wasn't in line with Katsuya Eguchi, the original creator and artist of Animal Crossing, and his intention with the games. People need to accept that this game released in a way it did for a reason, and it wasn't entirely the corporate structure of Nintendo to blame, although I do think that plays a role, because a noticeable pattern with Nintendo since Iwata and during the Switch era has been a shift in strategy to releasing unfinished games and finishing them over time under the disguise of "free updates." So while I agree the directors had a role in the disappointment of New Horizons, their vision clearly wasn't truly fulfilled due to Nintendo's new business model (although this widens the debate because you could argue that these Devs had absolutely years - they said they started pre-production in 2012! - which means there was no excuse for releasing content as franchise-old as The Roost over a year and a half later after release.

    I have a lot of ideas for a future Animal Crossing game. I would call it Animal Crossing: New World. It would have...
    - High quality RTX graphics with characters like Tom Nook, Lolly, and Isabelle looking fuzzy.
    - Full first-person 360 camera
    - Every item ever (including lemons)
    - Every character ever
    - Every building upgrade ever (and new upgrades, such as upgrading Nook's Cranny to a big box store)
    - Ability to have at least 50 villagers in your town
    - Ability to interact with a lot more items (Ex: using boats, cars, surf boards, pools, bath tubs, and bikes), including for NPCs
    - Ability to share towns between multiple systems, and have multiple towns on a single system (such as the ability to share towns with your family)
    - More than just the option of your town being an island
    - So much more

      if you have video memory to spare then those are computationally cheap

      more content is not a new idea and making the game more resource intensive is not a new idea either
