I could not overlook how she smiled right after she started singing. This is a real musician. You can see how she enjoys doing music.

I think music like this should be on the radio but yet they say it's not radio friendly enough for it to be on the radio because it's a little outside the norm and because it don't fit into one particular genre of music yet real musicians who aren't afraid to go outside the norm are the real musicians, look at Irene moon she is probably one of the strangest musicians out there she does really weird dungeon type music and they put her on the radio it don't make any sense why they can't put something like this on the radio
I think she smiled because the volume was too high and intense. Like laughter. Regardless, this is my favorite version of her song. And I like mistakes personally. I think it makes art more beautiful ❤
She gets the starting lyric mixed up too I believe that’s why she smiles when the verse starts

God, do I love all these KEXP performances. There's nothing like a voice, a piano, and not much else to hit the feels.
The range of emotions she undergoes throughout her performance is astonishing - I could watch artists like this forever.

I came across this song as a little girl and I never understood the lyrics or its depth but I knew it spoke volumes just by the way it’s so beautifully harmonized. Now over a decade later, I can now interpret the lyrics in my own way and it makes it even more beautiful.

From what I understand about the country, they value the arts, for one. Nearly everyone there is writing a book, making music or visual art. If you're not they wonder what's wrong with you. Haha. Aside from that there must be something in that glacier water that comes out of the tap.

Iceland is, in fact, amazing. There's no crime really except petty theft and some vandalism, Reykjavik is owned by cats, mineral water flows out of every tap, the supermarket's logo pig is silly, the clothes are cool, the landscape is beautiful. The only downside is that everyone speaksEnglish and it makes you feel like an entitled tourist.

Her live performances are even better which is very rare for most singers. I notice her live performances are even more strong, deep, powerful, and a striking profound. Astonishing indeed!
I interpret the house representing his love for her that’s making him sad because it’s unrequited thus the line
“He is alone in his house out there”
but she takes joy in it and that’s why she performs the song with a smile. She says

The lines “he sleeps with his eyes open” means he doesn’t quite trust her
The lines “his windows alright, his garden is wonderful but this waterfall salt tears comes from him” means things seem fine on the surface but he’s depressed
He also whispers to her that he’ll drown when he sees her again then she takes his hand as they sink into his sadness almost like she guides him there.
Basically I think the song is about a story where she enjoys causing him sadness and he tries to stop loving her but he can’t so he spirals into a depression she guided him to maybe it’s also just about an unhappy relationship that continues and I’m reading too much into the lines about her being happy or content with the situation and that just represents the good parts of a bad relationship alternatively but I can identify with being in love with someone who enjoys breaking your heart for the fun of it so I don’t think it’s too farfetched
Jesus Christ this is exactly what I’m going through. It hurts so fucking bad but I have no one else and she makes me so happy when I’m with her. She kissed me once, but she says she never felt like more than friends and wants to keep it that way. This seems to conflict with everything she ever said or did with me. I took her on like 5 dates, we both had an amazing time and I could feel her warming to me and my touch... I’ve had a crush on her for years and I wanted this so bad. I talked to her for months, we were talking every day. She just got out of a relationship, and I think deep down she likes me but wants to deny it or is having trouble feeling attracted to anybody. She says she doesn’t want a thing with anyone.... wtf. She says she doesn’t know why but she isn’t feeling attracted to me sexually although I’m pretty sure she felt attracted to me in HS.
Why am I telling you this. You ruined this song for me and it’s one of my favorites :(
