Never met a man named Merwin I didn't like, come to think of it never met a man named Merwin
Me either!
Love InRangeTV/Forgotten Weapons and Arizona GR.
This made my day.
Thank you and A Merry merry Christmas to all.
🙂
Awesome!@@AIRRAID2
You want us to believe you’ve met a guy named Hulbert?
@@omalleyshepherd2936 HAHAH!
A co-worker has his great grandfather's Merwin Hulbert in .32 it has ivory grips and nickel plating. His great grandfather called it his church pistol.
Church pistol, eh? Nice.
It's Karl with a K and Santee with a ...... T ?? Good video. Very interesting little revolver.
🤠
It is such a shame that the startup that tried to make repro Merwin Hulberts in the early 2000s fell through.
Yep, sure did.
I was planning to buy one... 😕
I love your channel, though I got really excited to see you do this collaboration! I had never heard of this revolver! Please do more work with Karl, it seems like you both had some fun!
Thank You!
Glad to see you collaborate with InRange. They did a few old west vignettes about 5 years ago, taking the viewer on some great Arizona history rides. As a native Arizonan who's family has been here since before statehood, I love those bits Karl has done. I'd love to see more collaborations with folks like this.
Thank You! I hope to get out and do those kinds of videos as well.
Wow! A collaboration with InRange. Even though I love both channels I never expected this particular crossover. What a great surprise! Would love to see more in the future!
Great video of a marvellous gun, I am fortunate enough to own 2, although living in the UK I'm not allowed to fire anything through them, both in 44 Merwin & Hubert, the proprietary calibre that was made by them back in the day. One is open top and the other has a top strap and is double action.
So cooL!
I would love a video on Iver Johnson revolvers I grew up shooting an old Iver Johnson revolver and they were really popular in the 1800s
-Pap
In the future.
That Marvin and Culvert made a nice piece, no doubt about it 👌
🤠🤠
This was a terrific video and a great collaboration with Karl!
Thank You!
Great to see two of my favorite channels collaborating! Karl does a lot excellent history videos!
We agree!
That's a very interesting old gun. Great video. We need more revolver diversity in Westerns. Thanks for the sunshine and cacti. Happy Christmas!
You as well!
I remember the Christmas I found out Santa wasn't real.
I wish somebody had warned me because my kids were really disappointed.
What???? He's NOT???
I really like the Merwin's.
That is neat about learning History. There are pleasant surprises awaiting. If you are a casual History buff you might never know that there were firearms other than colt and Winchester.
Best Wishes from Montana! M.H.
Thank You!
Ahh, yes, the legendary Merlin and Hubert. 😁
Very cool - long time InRange subscriber here and it's great to see collaborations between people who really know their stuff!
Very kind of you to say!
Very cool revolvers They were so well machined thus pricy. I handled a mint condition engraved one while I was working at Lock Stock and Barrel. .44WCF isn't hard to reload. There is one extra step: case lubing before re sizing, but that's it. Switching to a .44 mag bell die fixes the case crushing problem. Original .44WCF bullets were .427, modern ones are .428, so a slightly wider bell fixes the problem. I've been reloading .44-40 for SASS for years and don't crush cases.
Santee, I was tickled that you met my pard Brother Tom at the WBWFF a few weeks ago. In case you were wondering, even though I'm now an award winning director, we can still be friends!!! Hope to see you along the trail soon. The Scoundrels are very busy over the next few months. We have California Days coming up at Calico in Feb...I'm pretty sure the 17th and 18th. Come on out and we'll take your money at faro, grand hazard, vingt et un, or maybe Soapy Smith will just fleece you before you get into my Silverlode gambling hall!
HAHAHA! Well, that's awesome, Pico. Huge congrats! Thanks for the invite, I sure hope to make it.
Great to see you hanging out with such a great guy. Or he getting to hang out with you TBH made for a great new video.
Stay safe out there, and take it easy man.
Thank You!
i was just thinking like a week or two ago that it would be a great pairing for you to do a video with karl
🤠
enjoyed this bit of history with the morning coffee. *LIKED* the video and perhaps some day I'll see you on down the trail.
Thank You!
Absolutely awesome Santee! Love Western history. And to see you with Karl so cool I also follow In Range. Learned something new again can't get enough knowledge about our past. Thank you Santee for all your hard work and time Sir. You are appreciated a lot.🤠🇺🇲
Awesome! Thank you!
What a cool pistol. The engineering is so out of the box. Can’t believe I haven’t heard about it. Love it.
Yeah, it's a cool one!
I think one of these was used in a movie called Bone Tomahawk, kind of The Searchers meets Hills Have Eyes. It's really good but also _grisly as all hell._
Yes, the clip I added is from Bone Tomahawk.
i misheard that opening as Roeper and Ebert…hope that isn’t insulting 😳🤣
odd gun yet revolutionary…had never heard of this before but glad to learn about it
It is meant to be confusing, as the name of the gun actually is hard to pronounce!
Great video and I love the Merwin and Number 3 S&W. I had a shooter Number 3 Russian back in the 1980s and like and fool sold it in the 1990s when things were tight. I only shot it with BP
Cool!
I love both your channels, so happy to see this collaboration.
Thank You!
First time I remember seeing a Merwin Hulbert revolver in a film was the Long Riders. I believe Randy Quaid carried one during the first bank robbery.
I think you're right.
I was shocked to see it in Bone Tomahawk, i don't think ive seen it in any other movies.
Not very many. Tall Tale (Pecos Bill had 2), Texas Rangers, Young Riders...maybe a couple more.
Great colab, Santee! I watch a bit of 'In-Range,' and have learned a bit from him, as well...
I enjoy doing mental exercises of what I would've taken with me if I'd helped settle the west... 'Tactically practical' revolvers like these are usually at the top of my list
Thank You!
Awesome to see you doing a video with Karl! Excellent subject matter Santee. Hope to see more collaborations in the future!
We're talking about it.
Great to see a collaboration between two of my favorite subscribed channels, Arizona Ghostriders and InRange TV. Hope you folks can keep doing it occasionally as time permits. Best Wishes, Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to all.
You as well!
You as well!
That's a slick setup im still partial to thr Schofield. Great videos!
Thanks!
@@ArizonaGhostriders how did you end up with the name Santee? I know there's one in California and one in South Carolina.
great video , really interesting and clear!!!!!!!!! thank you so much!
You're very welcome!
I USE TO COLLECT OLD WEST GUNS MOST YOU CAN NOT GET AMMO FOR ANYMORE .. SO I HAD TO BUILD THE AMMO TOO !! THANKS SANTEE ! ADIOS AMIGOS SANTEE !! MERRY CHRISTMAS !
They are fun, right?
Awesome crossover!
Thank You!
I think those revolvers were made here in Norwich,Ct. They were the Charter Arms of the 19th century.
Yes, Norwich.
Yet another great guest. Cheers my friend.
Glad you enjoyed it. 🎄🎄
One of the most interesting revolver of its time. Thanks for sharing.
You're welcome
That’s a way to wake up on a Saturday! Karl and Santee? Holiday season came just a bit early! Great video, Santee!
Yes! Thank you!
I love both of these channels.I wish there were more longer format videos I could listen to both of these gentlemen speak for hours. More crossover would be very cool also.
Thank You!
That was a very interesting video! I wasn't familiar with the Merwin Hulbert revolver. I've probably seen them in a movie or photo but I assumed it was a Schofield revolver
Similar look
I enjoyed that, thanks. Unique in the way it works, yet arguably with all the same drawbacks as the Enfield. Who learnt from who, I wonder.
I'm gonna guess that they all reverse engineered every other inventor's firearm to learn.
Thats a fancy little pistol. Thanks for sharing as always.
You're welcome.
I always love firearms history episodes thanks sharing
You're welcome.
This gun is very interesting, Santee.
Great video.
Thank You!
That was great. Never heard of the brand. Always learning in here.
Thanks for watching!
Cool video! I got a 1880 frontier model in 44-40 says 73 Winchester as the caliber. Its beat up and missing some parts. I bought it from the inlaws of some guy named Robert Gelispie aka Arkansas Bob. Dont know who that is. He died early 20s I got his rifle also a 1903 25-35 Winchester 94 saddle carbine with the 3 leaf express sight and marbles tang sight. Also beat up.
Nice acquire
Looks like a cool piece. Thanks
Thank You!
That's super cool!
Thank You!
A Merwin Hulbert revolver makes an appearance in the Godfather II.
Yes
Fun video! I have a couple of Merwin Hulbert guns…they are a lot of fun to shoot.
Cool!
Definitely an interesting and cool looking revolver but I would have to agree that a Smith & Wesson would be the one to have if you were in a situation where you needed to load / unload quickly . Keep up the great work !!
Yep! Thank You!
What fine firearms you fellers have! Kind Thanks for sharing your Rootin Tootin Shootin! DaveyJO in Pennsylvania
Thank You!
That is an oddly good looking revolver.
🤠
Interestingly, the M&H was the official service sidearm of the Spanish Army around the turn of (XIX) century because they were deemed better than all others, but since it was quite expensive and officers were allowed to provide their own sidearms, most did choose cheaper revolvers to the point that almost none of the M&Hs were actually used in the 1898 war with the US.
Interesting
If I remember right there was a vidio on that gun showing how well it was made by demonstrating pulling the barrel forward and letting go. The barrel snapped back into place under suction being so closely machined the vacume pulled it together.
Yes
A great collab ...keep it up 👍
Thanks a ton
I had heard of the manufacturer but had never seen one befoore, thanks Santee
You're welcome.
I really liked this episode! I think I saw one of the pisols 'Josey Wales' used. 😊
It would be great to see an episode of the gins Clint Eastwood used in his fantastic movie,'The Outlaw Josey Wales'
Thank you!
Great suggestion!
Glad to see you guys finally got in touch
Thank You!
Santee! This is a fantastic episode, thank you!! See you next week for another coffee visit friend!
Sounds good!
Having interchangeable barrels, a lot like the Dan Wesson.
Yes
There was a Bonanza episode that had a Merwin Hulbert. I believe the owner tried selling it to Adam. Fortunately he declined and the revolver later ended up saving the day.
Hmmm...!
@@ArizonaGhostriders A different episode but look for Thanks for Everything, Friend (about the 9 minute mark). Still looking for the one mentioned. Will let you know as soon as it's found.
@@ArizonaGhostriders Try season 4, episode 24, The Way of Aaron. I believe that is the one.
@@Colorado_Native Thank You!
I was so excited to see this video pop up. Two great western firearm history channels in one episode covering one of the most rare & special revolves of its time. Thank you guys for putting this on! Would love to see more collaborated videos on rare western firearms!
Thank You!
I like history and I like firearms history so this put me in seventieth heaven.
Good
This has quickly become my favorite series on RUclips! Please keep it up, Santee! This ol' half-blind gringo loves hearing about loves hearing about all things Wild West.
Glad you enjoy it! Merry Christmas.
@@ArizonaGhostriders Merry Chrstmas to you! :)
Great history lesson! Thanks for bringing Merwin along to show us his break action revolver!
You're welcome.
Buck Taylor used one briefly, i think, in the 1997 TNT miniseries Rough Riders as a stagecoach robber
I believe so.
Has a hand gun is a piece of technology art !! Thanks bring it up amigo!
You're welcome, Marco.
Great Show
🤠 Thank You!
Something I've heard is that M&H offered nickel at the same price as blued steel from a sense of artisan pride, as nickel fouls less
Nickel was definitely an easier finish when it came to black powder.
Merry Christmas Santee
Thank You! You as well.
Great crossover👌
Thank You!
Interesting weapon . I remember as a kid when all the Westerns pretty much utilized Colt single actions and model 92 Winchesters .
I thought then those are the guns the Guns of the Old West , Much later in life as a teen I discovered there actually were a large variety of different firearms used in the Old West and the knowledge of their existence gave me much joy with fascinating facts .
Enjoyed this video . Well done 👏
Thank You!
Everytime i see arizon ghost riders its like im a kid again watching wild west tech on the history channel only better
Glad to hear it!
In reading westerns I’ve heard of Colts S&W Schofield and Dance and Addams, but never a Merwin. Thanks for the history lesson.
Glad you learned, too!
I've wanted one of these for my shows ever since I saw one. Diane Gleason, who is a well known portrayer of Calamity Jane ( and in my opinion, the finest by far) carried one. I like to carry something out of the ordinary, so the M-H was one I wanted. Alas, my finances have prohibited the acquisition so far.
It's a pricey one.
I'll have to keep my eyes peeled when I hit the gun shows! Another great video Santee!
Thank You!
LETS GOOOOOOO!
🤠🤠
Two youthful toots teaching us ancient flatulences. I like it! Keep doing it it!
HA!
how id miss this collab
It wasn't very long ago.
Very interesting! Looks fun to shoot in such a beautiful environment 🤠
Yes
My Dad had two one in 44-40 a full size revolver and one in 38 Colt if I recall. The 38 was an old Cleveland Ohio city police department gun.
Oh that is neat!
that was cool i got to ask where did you get your sunglasses??? love the shape of the skull cracker
He got his from the historic eyewear company.
Me, deaf from the gunfire: Marlin & Schubert?
LOL!
Only time I saw one in movie was Rough Riders
...and now in Bone Tomahawk (movie clip shown).
The crossover we have all been waiting for!! I enjoy both of your channels and hope to see more collaborations in the future !!!
I hope so too!
Why you make me want things I can't have? Great video, Santee! Good to see you guys working together.
Right?!
What a great collaboration! It's the first time I've seen you shoot a revolver!
Maybe both of you could attend a cowboy action shoot and film it!
Watch the 150th Anniversary episode and you'll see me shoot a first gen Colt.
Can you talk about winter clothes in the wild west. Would be an interesting topic because There were also a lot of cowboys in the cold mountains and not just in the desert of Texas.
I have done one on coats and jackets
That Merwin gun is pretty cool! That should be fun to shoot and hit the target------right, Santee?
It is.
I've got one of their pocket 32 revolvers (these really are small enough to fit in your pocket). They are nifty and very well made. If you pull forward on a well fitted barrel and cylinder, it will create enough vacuum in the cylinder rod tube that it forces the barrel and cylinder assembly to close again on its own.
Fascinating
This collab rocks!
Thank You!
Good morning Arizona Ghost Riders. It is Ted from Texas. I just realized I forgot to comment on your video. I definitely enjoyed the shooting videos and seeing and learning history of old guns it is my passion and I just wish collect Revolutionary War weapons. Thank you man stay safe and Merry Christmas
Much appreciated, Ted. You have a good one as well!
I want one!
🤠🤠
Bruh why did you have to do Peter Weller like that?! 😂😂😂 GREAT video, Santee, this is a really cool firearm!!!!
HAAA!
Nice clip from ‘Bone Tomahawk’! Another good one, Santee!
Glad you enjoyed it
Lot of great gun tubers in Arizona.
Too bad there ain’t much water.
True...we ain't got much water.
Huge fan of both of you guys awesome collaboration see you on the trail
Thank You!
That is an interesting little gun. (compared to say a Dragoon LOL)
Right. Just about any revolver back then is little up next to a Dragoon.
Great collaboration. Thanks for showing it to us.
Thanks for watching!
