In fact, I believe it would have been more advantageous for Russia to allow Ukrainian forces to penetrate deeper into Russian territory and keep them engaged there for as long as possible. Why? Because this strategy would likely concentrate Ukraine’s most elite soldiers in a single area, enabling Russian forces to gradually encircle and neutralize them over time, effectively depleting Ukraine's military strength.
They did exactly this, Ukraine best units and last available troops went 8n Kursk never to come back, while the front is crumbling. It'a a matter of a few weeks before everything fall completely.
That is exactly what the Russians did. They allowed the Ukrainian forces to penetrate deep in to Kursk stretching their supply lines and then the Russians began taking the supply routes. That is why Ukrainian forces in Kursk are now being crushed.

It's not about beating Russia. It's about holding out long enough that Russian public opinion turns. That is definitely a possibility at some point. The reason Russia is bringing in Korean and Chinese troops is to avoid a potential draft in the motherland. If this arrangement breaks down, it will be bad for Russia's ability in conquering the place. With the active military nearly all KIA now, a draft would cause a noticeable absence of young men across Russia and make it very hard to hide the reality of things. You see just like western media. Zelensky has said that the Kursk operation is still a success, so this is false news... He also said that Ukraine has lost less than 80k soldiers so far which is short of a military miracle. Not to mention the "let the (long range) missiles do the talking" thing so Russia must be on its last legs in this war.
