HSL broked me, for weeks I cannot stop thinking about the show, I read the manga, read all the fanfiction I can find, and ended up writing some myself, and then I got recommended this song by youtube. It touched me just as deeply as the show did, and I only realized it today that it is the ED of the show after listening it to days. That to me is a big proof of how the song captures the theme and conflict of the show.
I swear bro, I've watched like quite the amount of animes that turned out to be depressing but this one actually sends shivers down to my spine. I just, couldn't move on from it, when Satou pounced on Shoko from behind, I actually got shaken real life, it's actually hard to breath. Everything was builded up so well dawg😭 the silence, the music, the ambience, the visual, the voice I kept crying reminding that scene again😭
Looking through the lyrics, it almost feels like Satou regrets killing Shouko and silently wanted to make amends with her in another life. In the scene where she dresses the corpse, we can see a little bit of remorse in Satou but not any further than that because Shio interrupts the moment. If that scene was extended, I’m sure we could’ve heard Satou’s thoughts. But from her face, it’s almost as if she’s thinking “What have I done?” but we’ll most likely never know what’s truly going through Satou’s mind.

Well, the way I saw it, Shouko was dead to Satou the second she flinched away from even a trace of Satou’s darkness. Satou in a way gave her a chance to see a little behind the mask, leading to this tragedy.
So tragic that Shoko died. She’s the only character from the anime that didn’t deserve to die. Ever other character that met their end deserved it. Sorry Satou-Chan. I like you and I understand how difficult things were for you, but you chose to destroy many people just to protect your “happy sugar life” with Shio-Chan. I still think of you as a sympathetic villain, though.

Shoko-chan shouldn't have gone. Perhaps actually Satou realized a bit before she did it by herself, she has one who is an irreplaceable friend, who could have her save. The one would have been Shouko-chan for her.
which is why this scene hit as hard as it is we know it could went better, we know they could've done different thing, but in the same time, we know why they did what they did, even thought we don't like it

I'll say this, even though I didn't like HSL, episode 9 being one of the reasons, this OST was so sad. I would have probably cried if it was playing while Shouko was dying.
😢 I actually really love this anime despite how bleak it is. It’s actually my second favorite anime behind Pokémon, which tbh I don’t think will be topped by any anime as I’ve been watching it since Black & White when I was 14. I’m 26 at the time of writing this comment.

さとちゃんは愛とか人の心に無知だっただけで、しょうこちゃんに対してちゃんと友情とか感じてたんだろうなぁ...。それがホントに哀しい...。
サイコホラー作品とか呼ばれてるけど、さとちゃんが「人の心」を知って行く物語だったからこそ、「殺人」と「愛」が作品のキーになってたのかな...って気がする。
さとちゃんが最期に気づいた「しおちゃんへのもっと深い想い」っていうのも、「慈しみ」とか「命の尊さ」みたいなものだったのかも。

Shouko no fue una buena amiga; ella misma lo dijo "no conocía nada de Satou" y cuando se le dió una oportunidad: Solo la rechazó. Sin mencionar como ni siquiera le importo escuchar lo que Satou tenía para decir. Aún así, Satou sufrió por su culpa hasta en el final.

いや、確かに最初このアニメ見る時クズの本懐とかそっち系のなんだろう…かなりドロドロした感じの作品で女性ファンの方が多いという印象が強かった、中盤まではさとうとしおちゃんのやり取りが微笑ましくて見てたけどだんだん雲行きが怪しくなってきて9話、なんか凄く辛い。自分も片親でろくに相手されなかったからか共感というか自分が不安になった
何かこういうアニメ見ると1週間ぐらい頭から離れない、同じ高校生男子居るか〜…
僕3回ぐらい見ました。これを初めて見た中学生のとき片親ではないけど共感するとこもあったりしました。僕の中では唯一無二の作品だと思っています。こういう系の作品ていうかこの作品もっと有名になってくれ~

😢 I actually really love this anime despite how bleak it is. It’s actually my second favorite anime behind Pokémon, which tbh I don’t think will be topped by any anime as I’ve been watching it since Black & White when I was 14. I’m 26 at the time of writing this comment.
