I disagree with the idea that speaking multiple languages automatically makes you more culturally aware. That is a very limited point of view.

Yes, plenty of multilingual people are ignorant and/or intolerant of other cultures and communication styles.

I think the monolingual debate is more so about language than culture - I know many people who are trilingual - speak 3 or more languages - and are incredibly culturally closed off and entitled. It's about the kind of culture you grow up in less than the languages you speak, they aren't mutually exclusive.

I do pray one day I can experience Korea in real life. my professional career is mental health and like the deep south in America ,(which is where I’m from), I do know Korea has their own stigmas on mental health.

Both my daughters went two years community college. Then transferred to four year college their degree had four year college on it. We saved a lot of money. They both have masters degrees now and that’s the college that really matters

I totally agree with both of the young ladies opinions on learning different languages.
Although English is the only language I speak, throughout my life, I have experienced a wide range of cultures and ethnicities. I have a completely different understanding of emotions and how someone may express themselves. Although I may not speak the language. I have the understanding of multiple cultures to know not to look at it from an American English perspective.

I enjoy your podcast. I mostly speak English. I appreciate other cultures and travel abroad. Please don’t paint English only speakers with a broad brush.
