Virtual International Liberation Ceremony 2020

The Mauthausen Committee Austria has given a promise to the survivors by taking over the legacy. For this reason, remembrance of victims and the joy over the liberation from the National Socialist reign of terror is something that cannot be postponed, regardless of the current situation. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the largest international liberation ceremony in Europe will for the first time take place virtually in 2020.
We will be inaugurating the Virtual International Liberation Ceremony with an international welcome and the reading of the Mauthausen Oath in different languages. Since well over 90% of the victims were neither Germans nor Austrians, remembrance of the victims of the Mauthausen concentration camp and its satellite camps takes on international significance.
Numerous concentration camp survivors will be heard. MKÖ chairman Willi Mernyi will inaugurate the Virtual International Liberation Ceremony in an opening address. The statement by CIM President Guy Dockendorf will be followed by further contributions and statements on the overall theme "Humanity without Borders" by representatives of international camp committees, religious communities, the Comité International de Mauthausen, and many more.
Furthermore, thematic and historical contributions on the liberation and the work for "Never Again" will be shown and accompanied by music performances.
Mercedes Echerer and Konstanze Breitebner will guide us through the virtual liberation ceremony.
