Joe will be gone 3 years Feb 4th, I miss him so much, and jumping in the truck going places, I would even help tarp and strap loads, when they got dirty, we stretched them out in the yard and scrubbed them..... Thank you.

    It always makes the trip more interesting when you can't see the pavement. Keeps you on your toes. If your an experienced driver and safe driver, thing are usually cool. But alot new drivers will think they can go faster than it's safe. In alot of cases their bosses or customers will pressure them with time deadlines.Rule #1, no load is worth your or anyone else's life. If the load s that important, send it by plane. Better to be a little late than not at all.

He said it happens to quick....he should know, although he wasn't reaching for anything, when he wrecked, which ended this second career. Stay safe. Enjoy your days off.

    Mike pull your visors down part way and it traps more heat on the windshield. and ask for heated wipers they are worth their weight in gold. l run them in northern ontario canada on the ice roads, I only run them in the winter and change back to summer blades seasonal they're the real cats ass . just a suggestion buddy lve driven for 32yrs for the same company 3.8million accident free and ticket free squeeky clean record. have a good one buddy.

    What's really interesting, driving a single compartment smooth bore tanker, half filled with 45,000 pounds of heavy liquid. Going uphill, 5,000 pounds is transferred from drive axles to trailer tandems. Makes for really poor traction going up a snow covered grade, especially during and when dropping a gear, at which time much more than just 5,000 pounds is transferred to the trailer tandems for a brief moment while the liquid crashes against the rear bulkhead acting as a momentary rearward pulling anchor. Coming to a complete stop at a stop sign is also a trick as the 45,000 pound liquid can come crashing forward against the front bulkhead just behind the light 19,000 pound tractor and may easily propel said snowbound ice skating truck forward upon impact. Then when descending a snow covered grade you have 5,000 extra pounds pushing right behind the cab, lightening up the traction of the trailer trying to fish tail off to one side. But those things only happen half of the time. The other half of the time the rig is empty. Loaded one way, make the delivery, and come back empty. In order to reload. Another tricky thing about tankers they have been known to tip over going 5 mph, when making a turn and liquid is sloshing the wrong way.
    Note: To illustrate how poorly windshield wipers maintain contact with the large single piece wrap around bubble-shaped windshield 31:57 is a perfect example. And, using the high speed windshield wiper mode does no good except to increase the speed of freeze and has small effect of knocking any ice away. Again to reiterate: anything but flat glass is a very poor design. Big windshields maybe a great design for vacationing tourists, but for a working man driving in all conditions the only thing required is a clear focused view of the road, which is why it's called a business. With two piece flat glass and short windshield wiper blades cutting through and maintaining contact with a more easily heater defroster warmed windshield the scenario 31:57 comparatively only very rarely occurs. Of course this only has to do with windshield components. The list of other things is much, much, much longer.
    Another one almost as tricky are A-trains or Rocky Mountain doubles. Grossing 105,000 pounds instead of 80,000, both having same amount of weight 34,000 on drive tandems. In fact regular doubles pulled by a single drive axle tractor maybe tricky.

    Thanks for the tips! I'm still a rookie (1+yr) I had a feeling being light is no beuno, and I even slid my tandems back some for more drive weight.. glad I was doing the right.

    I get it growing up in northeastern wisconsin and driving in snow and on ice. It is all about traction with your tires on
    the surface. Breaking traction means no control of the car or truck. You can feel if you have traction.
    This is why it is so important to keep your wheels and tires moving on the surface. Once you wheels and tires are stopped and locked
    you are sliding with no control. You always want you wheels and tires moving to control the direction of the vehicle on the roadway.
    There are no fast accelerations or panic stops on snow and ice, there is little traction.

My brother lives in Illinois with loads of snow and I think we were talking about that 1 year cause we couldn't find any wipers for our Buick that would keep the rain cleaned off and he told me to get some snow wipers cause they would help, last longer, and be good for the winter months. Andrew Silva they make heated wipers where the wiper blade rests on a heated strip when in the down position. Even with wipers running and the blade sitting on the heater for a couple seconds at a time it makes a big difference. You can get heated blades as well if the truck has the supporting wiring installed. Absolute life savers.

    Is that a cold weather package that gives you the lower wind shield heater grid for anti icing?

    Seems like they could invent some way to get hot air coming out of your wipers. Stay safe. That's scary to me. My butt's been drawn up. Peace !!!

    Use more washer fluid. And with a high alcohol content. It will keep your blades from freezing up.

    • @ridingshotgun1251
      @ridingshotgun1251  5 лет назад +1

      I will look into that but I have to be careful. They may try to pin alcohol on me so they can take my license that's the kind of stuff they do..

    I been driving truck since 1980 otr since 1983...what I'm about to say I mean no disrespect to u...but when the roads look like that and chains are required it's time to park. Loads are not worth getting into an accident over. Most accidents happen like the weather ur in. The smartest thing to do is Park it...u mentioned a granddaughter. I have a grandson...and if ur in a serious accident how do you think it will effect ur granddaughter ? Also the Percentage of driver accidents happen when drivers push it to get home..so to be safe and keep going home to ur family. DO RISK IT....PARK IT

    • @asphaltcowboy7049
      @asphaltcowboy7049 5 лет назад

      Totally agree! I only chain up to get out of trouble not through it. If it's bad enough for chains, park it. I'm not that hard up for a dollar to risk it.

      he’d be parked for half the winter in colorado and rural california then. this ain’t the south, country boy. :)

      @@williamhendrix3253 I don't know if you were talking to me or the other guy but if it was me then you're right, I am a country boy born and raised in rural Utah. Been driving out west through the Rockies and central California 15 yrs in every shit snow storm imaginable. I used to chain up all the time but ive seen to many other drivers getting worse every year and more winter accidents each year than I ever remember. I'm not scared to drive in any weather or road conditions, it's the other guy that just doesn't make it worth the risk anymore. So dont be running your mouth before you know who you're talking to wheel jockey!

      I was talking to the other guy, if that’s your definition of “run your mouth”, you must have your panties in a twist an awful lot.
