My dog had 2 seizures 5 hours apart just today, I just stayed patted him, tried to be as calm as possible for him put a folded blanket under his head, it was hard to watch, both times were under a minute each under 30 seconds even, he's 17 and hopefully the vet can see him in the morning...
Man, i know that's scary. My 13yr old chow just had a seizure for the 1st time. We all freaked out not knowing what to do. This has never happened before. He's literally had dog bloat requiring surgery & almost died. I was told both times it's extremely rare for his breed to ever even get bloat once let alone twice, especially bcuz of his build. Sofor him as a senior to now get a seizure outta nowhere is heart wrenching. No dog owner wants to see their best friend/ fur baby go thru such a traumatic event. I thoughts & prayers go out to everyone of you & hope your babies are better now.
All my three dogs (Italian Greyhounds) experience seizures. Epilepsy I believe. Is terrible and it brakes my heart. Sometimes I think they can die and is terrifying. I hold them and talk to them and caress them until is over. It takes some time for them to go back to normal, and then I realise how good is to see them well and happy. I love them so much. They are wonderful. ❤❤❤
My 13 year old Yorkie had his first seizure today and it SCARED ME! I knew at some point he would go through this and I knew what to do but- it was very hard. I pray that he NEVER has another one.
My (Shih-Tzu) Asia is 17 and had her first Seizure yesterday Oct 22 24. I was terrified. It was awful. She went just like the little one in this video. Since then she has had two more episodes but not as bad as the first one. She is going to the Vet to-morrow and see what can be done for her. She has had the very best life and know her time is short now, but I want her to have a good life till the fullness of her time. Thank you for this video, it is helpful
How did your little baby’s appointment go for you guys? Is she doing ok now with the seizures? I am very curious about what the drs said and did for you guys there. My old girl Gracie just had a seizure this morning and I made an appointment it’s not for 3 whole days though 😢. What did they do at her appointment?
I can't thank you enough for this. My 13 year old collie is having a lot of seizures recently and thanks to you we now know what to do. We've been seeing the vets frequently about it now and they are starting to go away!
We went through this with two separate Pomeranian females and it is very scary. The first one we chose to use medication. If she spit it out and we didn’t know she later had a horrible seizure. Yes these are hard to watch, just be calm, love and calm your pet imagine how scared they are. 💔
I had a male Vizsla that had seizures starting at six months ,we tried everything,Valium up the nose etc, nothing helped. I have to admit that I think this pup was destined to be mine,I’m an RN and this was boy. Went to the University of Minnesota neuro vets and one suggested ocular (over eye) pressure during my boys clustering seizures,it worked, I have to admit that without my medical skill my dog would have been dead.He lived to 14 !! PS we also gave him ice cream because it helped with the clustering, seizing burns up a lot of glucose. If anybody out there reads this and it is helpful,I’d love to hear of it ,peace out
Hey, what exactly do you meen with over eye pressure? I dont fully understand in. I’m sorry. English isn’t my fist language. Do you mean covering their eyes softly to keep light out? My 12,5 year old pomeranian had her first seizure today and it was heartbreaking. I do hope she can get old with this. After the seizure she was very calm and we cuddled a lot. After 10 minutes she was back to her happy self but was tired. The seizure lasted about 90 seconds. I’d love to know of covering her eyes work and if you have more tips🐾
My dog was having a seizure she is 3 years old and my dad and me and my sister and brothers were all freaking out and we found out what to do thank you
Thank you for breaking it down like you did. My Standard poodle has her 1st one 2 years ago this week. She seems to have about 10 a year. The first 2 she had (4 months apart) were well over 3 minutes. The rest have been about 2-3 min. Comes out of them very euphoric and happy. She just had one Dec 28th, 2022 and it was almost 8 minutes long. I know this because I try and video them in case my vet or anyone needs to see them. She is on 125mg Zonisamide twice a day. Anyway my point is that I very much appreciated your video. Valerie
The 2nd recommendation is B/S you should cradle your dog and prevent them from injuring themselves while not restricting their movements but guiding them instead ❤️ they can easily chip and break teeth if left alone during an episode.
This video helped a lot , thank you …Our Crown, a lahsa apso , Full of life and always active, After a Dental surgery a few months back , Some nerve damage happened , which led to Epileptic Fits , it used to come and go , and he would be fine again , but since the last 5 days the Fits just started happening constantly, like 5 times in 12 hours , He became extremely Weak, His age also was 13 years , The Doc gave him Saline and injections to control the Seizures….. but finally day before he went into total unconscious state, He breathed his last at around 5 and we took him to PMC Pet crematory , where he was cremated. An Era is over .. but he Rests in Blissful Peace at last.
My pooch has never had a seizure (though think he did have a mild one in his sleep once but not had one since) but at the rescue I work at there have been epileptic dogs so I'm glad I found this video so I can stay calm should they have one
Don't flea your dog! Mine has seizures within a week every time. People don't realise there are triggers. They also need to be on keto, this is even researched in humans
My dog just experienced a seizure a few hours as of me making this comment. He's a golden labrador and has been in good health, he's 10 years old. My folks are taking him to the vet right now to get gim checked for anything. We also noticed he coughed up what looked like blood, very small amounts of it. So we aren't taking any chances. I came to this video to see anything that could help.
@@jstosic9576 Appreciate the support, it's been about a week and so far my dog has been fine. Still no update from the vet which is odd but overall he seems to be back to normal. Hopefully that was just a one time seizure. Likely dinged his head when sneezing, our dog shakes the earth when sneezing and sometimes he almost knocks himself out by sneezing.
@@Spykitty358 im so glad to hear that!! thanks for the update and maybe that's a good thing , I think that means the vet didn't find anything concerning! Wish u well :)
My dog had her second seizure in 5 months last night. The convulsing itself didn’t last long but the postictal lasted 2 hours. She drooled and trembled and seemed restless and disoriented. It was very upsetting. I called the vet this morning and they didn’t seem to worried about it since she’s fine, acting, eating and pottying like a champ. She’s about 2 and she’s a rescue so we don’t know much about her history, but I feel more equipped and ready to start testing and treatment if this happens again, as they advised me at the vet. They said it’s best to do blood test within an hour of the episode to see which levels are “off”. Last night was terrifying but I’m so happy she’s feeling herself today. And it’s relieving to see everyone’s comments here. Seems to be a common issue 😢
When my Chihuahua/Jack Russell mix had her 1st seizure it was scary I rushed to the vet and they took blood tests but couldn’t find anything suspicious. The seizures continued intermittently and I just stayed calm and stroked my dog very gently and said it’s ok it’s ok. The seizures lasted from about 1 minute maybe 3 minutes sometimes. We had more tests done but did not have a brain scan just blood tests but still found nothing. So I never gave my dog any medication and none was recommended by the vet. Overtime the frequency of seizures decreased from 1 every 2 months to 1 per year and then they stopped completely. She lived a long and healthy life. I was always interested what it was that brought on these seizures I visited a holistic vet who told me it could have been the food I was giving my dog it was a top brand but he suggested a more natural food with less carbohydrates and this might have been the issue.🌷
I think it has something to do with the dog food as well. We have a French Bulldog puppy who is 6 months old and recently started having seizures after we started feeding him Taste of the Wild Grainfree food. Took him to the vet. The blood tests were fine. I stopped feeding him Taste of the wild and seizures stopped.
Keppra has been a Godsend for my boy! After his cluster seizures, 1 every 2 hours for 24 hours, cbd oil just wasn't enough. After testing ruled out other possible causes like liver failure, brain tumor, etc., Keppra was prescribed. He had 1 more episode shortly after the first dose, but that was his last, and that was about 3 months ago. He was extremely lethargic until he became used to the medication, now he's back to normal! 🙂👍
@@veganreality4844 Just the one episode and he’s back to his normal happy self. The vet said if he has another within 6 months anti seizure medication might be recommended. Otherwise maybe it was something environmental. It’s possible because to my great consternation he constantly and I means constantly is licking, smelling, and nibbling on everything when I take him for a walk.
Looking for a video like this to confirm that my 14yr old shih tzu had a seizure today and I am taking her to the vet tomorrow. I wish we had a vet that stayed open late.
Thank you this was helpful! 😭 my dog had one on nov 26 sat 2022 two times and we went to our vet I doing now what i’d do without our vets here in the world we appreciate you guys for all you do!
My doggo have had seizure 3x this year alone. I would just hold onto her and sit down on the ground and let her rest on my lap until she’s fully functional again. It does take up to a min so if anyone going thru it. Please do as the video say and be calm.
My baby he started to had seizures two weeks ago and the vet don't know what wrong with him and he had again today and take him to hospital and found out that he had epilepsy seizures very scary watching him
Don't flea your dog! Mine has seizures within a week every time. People don't realise there are triggers. They also need to be on keto, this is even researched in humans
Mine is epileptic and actually looks for us when she is having a seizure so we need to hold onto her. Thankfully they aren't grand mals so she let's me eventually give her a cluster buster pill. Rectal diazepam also helps a ton
I have same problem with my German shepherd..... Finely i got treatment....... Fanital 50 and carbamazepine extended realese 300 mg 1/2 tablet both for 2 to 3 days.... Its works.... By the way these tablets are for humens... But thank god it works and the saved my dog.... Plz plz save these littel😍😍 It is meargy(seizure /epilepsy) in local language.... I tried many vets but no one have solution.... Please save animals..
My dog had mutiple seizures aka cluster seizures in one day and it turned out he had a brain tumour and he had a history of a heart murmur at the age of 20 and he passed away
Our boxer had surgery yesterday. Ever since he came out, he has been having seizures. He has never had seizures before. He stayed in the emergency clinic last night and the vets office all day. He’s had about 7 or 8 seizures in the past 24 hours. The stress of this is weighing down on us bc we don’t know how this is going to end. Every time we think it’s getting better, he drops with another seizure. What does this mean?
My dog is having seizures in clusters like 10 seizures in 24 hours continously from past 4 days gave her medications, visited vetinary but nothing seems to work
Ive read that past head trauma increases the risk of seizures for dogs bij 15.5% but no time indication was given - last year my dog was hit by a car and suffered head trauma, he recovered from a severe concussion. Does this mean that in the future my dog is more likely to suffer seizures when he gets older?
My chihuahua girl is been having seizures, or that’s what I think she has, it happens when she is asleep she cries out like she is in pain and she is rigid and stops breathing....I live in a small town...and the vets here don’t have the equipment to do test
The same exact thing is happening to my chihuahua baby. It happens when she wakes up and then when she eats. I'm really hoping it's something medication can solve. I'm not ready to lose her yet. I pray for your fur baby everyday
My 11 year old dog had two seizures about 4 days apart. She passed after then second seizure. Its a horrible experience for the owner. There is no way to comfort your dog during a seizure. Of course after the first seizure I was there to comfort her. For about 5 minutes she was disoriented and searching rooms in the house. 10 minutes later she was fine, and told me that she wanted her afternoon meal. What I find confounding is possible seizures that she had that I did not witness. I could have been running errands or simply in a different room.

I took my 2 yr pup to the vet because my pup would not stop seizing and the doctor said she would not start tending to him unless we had the money to pay by the time our credit passed for a credit care card the doctor came back and said our pup passed away.
I'm so sorry this happened to you. My 5 yo baby (lab) is experiencing chronic kidney failure and he is in his last stage and that includes seizures. It's killing me to see him like this. I'm preparing myself to prevent one and to handle the situation when that happens. I'm so sorry for you. He'll be always with you. My prayers and condolences to you.
I has seizures and my first doggo now has been having them a few times now and it's scary stuff man I already go thru this and now my baby boy he is 7 now and goes thru this it truly sucks I have brain damage and I'm special needs and it's just a lot to deal with my husband is my caregiver and now this it's just a lot to deal with but he is such a good man for this we have 3 fur babies and our daughter and it's the best thing ever but these are truly scary even my tourettes too I hate this stuff but what can we do just gotta go thru the stages and deal with it best we can prayers to everyone who has to go thru this

Hello My dog can't do MRI because of some relationship The doctor judges whether he is GME or NLE Currently actively treating Cytosar 200mg/m² I want to ask about the treatment probability of GME and NLE Thank you
I believe your question is “what is the likelihood of successful treatment with cytarabine?” I hope I’m answering your question. Please let me know if not. For dogs that are diagnosed with GME (eg ‘proven’ with MRI and spinal fluid analysis), about 40% of the time they make an excellent recovery and go back to normal, however most need lifelong treatment. The next 40% respond to treatment, but have relapses at some point, often within the first 6-8 months. 20% do not respond at all. It’s tough to predict for an individual dog. It’s even tougher when it’s a pet that hasn’t had any testing and that I haven’t examined in person. I believe we have a video about encephalitis on our website and on our RUclips page. Please realize this is general information, as I can’t diagnose or treat your pet without examining in person. Best to follow your veterinarian’s advice. Best wishes.
My dog has seizures. At first the Vet put him on Phenabarb, probably spelled wrong, but that stuff works, the problems is it’s toxic and if you miss a dose you could kill your dog. We’ve switched to using CBDs and he rarely gets seizures, and when he does an extra dose of CBDs get him out of it quick! My point: GET YOUR DOG SOME CBDs

Hi, thank you for very imformative video. i have 3 months old syberian husky she had 2-3 seizure a day and after a weeks it lessens about 1 seizure a day and now that she is 4 months old so far no seizure but i noticed that the side of her eyes have redness and her eyes is a little bit apart ., She is nit interested in toys or others thing but she is very hyper ang active in terms of running ,. I dont have enough money to bring her in vet because of pandemic any suggestion what best vitamins i can give to her ,
Well it is necessary to record because if any dog have seizures attack more than three minutes it will be dangerous for the dog and doctors are always suggested for recording because it will help them to know which kind and level of impact dog have due to attack and what is the condition of the Dog and to understand the situation and process accordingly so don’t judge anyone without knowing whole situation
I can’t afford a vet because my husband passed away a year ago and I’m on disability my dog started having seizures a week ago I heard cbd oil for dogs with seizures helps it’s on Amazon so I’m waiting.

My dog was 99 year old in human year but she had 2 seizures that lasted 3 minutes and happened in one day so we putted her down so yea my mom just decided to put her down so she can be with her daughter in haven☹️😔
I'm not a veterinarian. I do have a human medical condition that causes seizures, and they've never hurt me. The long term complications can, but the seizure itself is not painful even if it is terrifying to people around me.
A dog has a big bump on his head head and today he’s been having seizures all day today..I gotta go to the morning..I don’t know what to do! He’s only 5 weeks..he’s not my dog they are just outside someone dropped 5 puppies off and one is sick..

Hello, we know how difficult it is to see your pet experiencing neurological symptoms. Unfortunately, in order to give clinical advice, our Neurologist requires that pets be seen for a thorough workup. At that time, treatment options and recovery could be discussed. We are here for you if you need us. sevneurology.com

Hello. If an underlying cause for a dog’s seizures is discovered, it is imperative to address it as soon as possible. Epileptic dogs can live long, happy lives, but it’s important to realize that treatment will almost always require lifelong commitment. Anti-seizure medication is used to control the frequency, severity, and duration of episodes. There are a number of options, and your neurologist will talk to you about the best fit for your dog. You can learn more about seizures in dogs on our website - sevneurology.com/blog/dog-epilepsy-treatment/

I looked after a dog she had such bad seizure 💩 and vomitted. I had to scoop out the vomit out her mouth so she would not choke. The same night she had a stroke too😭
Yes, low blood sugar may be a cause in small dogs or in older dogs. Applying honey to the gums is unlikely to hurt most other causes of seizures and would help IF the cause is low blood sugar. IF it is low blood sugar, the reason for the low blood sugar needs to be found. Heading to the veterinarian for some blood tests and an examination is best for any dog with seizures.

Not that it’s that big of a deal but it’s kinda annoying when you are looking up what to do when your dog has a seizure and this girl immediately starts flapping her lips about irrelevant information. It’s not even my dog but my sisters dog is shaking and she’s holding her upright in her arms and I said “why are you holding her upright”. Kinda just looking for do we leave her on the ground or is it okay to pick them up. Next time start the video with “hi I’m mavy and if you see your dog having a a seizure don’t panic…etc”

This video was super helpful with our dog having a seizure thank you for the reassurance!
My pooch has never had a seizure (though think he did have a mild one in his sleep once but not had one since) but at the rescue I work at there have been epileptic dogs so I'm glad I found this video so I can stay calm should they have one

Praying that ur dog is doing okay🙏🏼
I am an epileptic. Idk if I could handle seeing ny dog go through what I have to. Breaks my heart

My 5 yr old Irish setter just had a full on seizure. Not a doctor but classic symptoms. Convulsing, peeing, foaming at the mouth. It was terrifying.
Can I know what happen?
Can I know what happen? If your dog okay?
@@veganreality4844 Just the one episode and he’s back to his normal happy self. The vet said if he has another within 6 months anti seizure medication might be recommended. Otherwise maybe it was something environmental. It’s possible because to my great consternation he constantly and I means constantly is licking, smelling, and nibbling on everything when I take him for a walk.
Looking for a video like this to confirm that my 14yr old shih tzu had a seizure today and I am taking her to the vet tomorrow. I wish we had a vet that stayed open late.

Have you noticed any side effects?
My dog had mutiple seizures aka cluster seizures in one day and it turned out he had a brain tumour and he had a history of a heart murmur at the age of 20 and he passed away
My condolences.
My dog is having seizures in clusters like 10 seizures in 24 hours continously from past 4 days gave her medications, visited vetinary but nothing seems to work
My experience is similar and am so worried don't know what else to do.
Ask the vet whats next? Dont stop. Dont use ANY FLEA AND TICK PILLS OR SKIN PRODUCTS. THEY ARE KNOWN FIR SEIZURES. MY DOXI DIED FROM THAT POISON.

Hello
My dog can't do MRI because of some relationship
The doctor judges whether he is GME or NLE
Currently actively treating Cytosar 200mg/m²
I want to ask about the treatment probability of GME and NLE
Thank you
I believe your question is “what is the likelihood of successful treatment with cytarabine?” I hope I’m answering your question.

I dont have enough money to bring her in vet because of pandemic any suggestion what best vitamins i can give to her ,
Hi Camille, did you find out why this is happening
Does anyone know of a product that helps detect when a seizure will take place? Even if it’s only a few minutes before?
Do I try to hold the dog down if it happens?
Well it is necessary to record because if any dog have seizures attack more than three minutes it will be dangerous for the dog and doctors are always suggested for recording because it will help them to know which kind and level of impact dog have due to attack and what is the condition of the Dog and to understand the situation and process accordingly so don’t judge anyone without knowing whole situation
My dog had a few. Now on two pill a day. Not had one for nine months. Scary.
I want to take my pet to a vet because it’s sad to see my dog with a seizure but is it really expensive to go see the vet? He is a chihuahua
I can’t afford a vet because my husband passed away a year ago and I’m on disability my dog started having seizures a week ago I heard cbd oil for dogs with seizures helps it’s on Amazon so I’m waiting.

Same thing I thought…they look like they are in pain….🧐🧐
Because they are literally professionals in the field of veterinary care and you’re not.

Anything that makes the seizures go away"entirely" ? It's not something easy but it's my question.

Informative but the music was very distracting
Don’t use fle collars that give dogs seizures do your research ❤️
My dog had occasional, short-lasting seizures. It didn't much affect his life, so I did nothing about them, except I stopped letting him drive my car.
I looked after a dog she had such bad seizure 💩 and vomitted. I had to scoop out the vomit out her mouth so she would not choke. The same night she had a stroke too😭
I had to restrain my dog as she seized, because she was flopping like a fish and I din't want her injuring her head.
For small dogs it may be low blood sugar so you can apply honey to their gums
Yes, low blood sugar may be a cause in small dogs or in older dogs. Applying honey to the gums is unlikely to hurt most other causes of seizures and would help IF the cause is low blood sugar. IF it is low blood sugar, the reason for the low blood sugar needs to be found. Heading to the veterinarian for some blood tests and an examination is best for any dog with seizures.
