Another South Jersey native here, great videos. Avid deer hunter and fisherman; just breaking into duck hunting, not many people willing to give help and advice around my way so it’s good to watch someone whose willing to grow the sport and help out the new guys!

Love that roy boat. You might not feel the same but that flapper board is impacting your swing. Elbows are dragging on the grass.
It's a trade off with the flappers. If you drop them your shot is completely unimpeded, but the bird is going to start to flare. Shooting over them you can often get that first shot into a group without them realizing the jig is up.
@@CFalicon I fully agree with your use of the flappers. Getting the birds before they flare is the way to go. I am very interested in HOW your flappers are attached to the boat. Any pictures would be greatly appreciated!
@@MightyLayoutBoy They're fiberglass panels on a piano hinge. The hinge runs the length of the cockpit. When flat against the hull and the flappers are down they are above the waterline and do not drag in the water. When they are up in the blind position they have a L shaped lip that rests on the cockpit combing to keep them at the proper angle. I adjust my rear flapper angle with blocks of wood at times.

Good advice. I don’t go where there are lots of hunters on first day but later in weeks with less hunters but more fresh birds from north. However on first day I go to small secluded rivers where no one goes for local birds.
That's a really good way of handling pressure. I like to do the same when I can.
Oh yeah and to avoid sky busters as well.

They were made by Don Mintz (Body Language Decoys) but I don't think he is making decoys anymore.
Man that's Awesome. Black duck is a bucket list bird for me, I've never seen one on the west coast where I hunt. Great hunt brother!
Crazy to see the differences between the Atlantic flyway and the Pacific flyway. From Washington state here and we have a very diverse waterfowl opportunity, you got a high cold desert on the east and a coastal mountainess setting on the west, then occasionally you can find some ducks in the high mountain lakes.

Such great advice. Ive heard so much negativity from duckhunters about competition and sabotaging others vehicles, boat ramps etc that it makes me sick.
Every place is different, but a little courtesy goes a long way.
How do you handle bluebird (sunny/no wind) days? Decoys- Motion-tactics

Bluebird days are tough, I have a homemade jerk string setup that I will use sometimes with a couple feeder butts. I'm intrigued by some of the commercial pulsator type decoys but not sure how well they would hold up in the salt. The main thing is having a good hide and not moving when birds are working. I also am very light on calling. Maybe just a mallard drake confidence call if anything.
I hunt MD eastern shore public land and it is very similar to what you hunt. Huntable food sources are hard to find around here. What do you base your spot selection on?? Are they feeding areas, roosting areas, or have you just seen ducks in that area before?
I like to hunt a few different situations: Feeding areas (very tide specific), loafing areas (not as common), and traffic areas between the two. Often times you can pull birds going to and from their roost or feeding area. On the coast I’m primarily hunting the tides as the birds move on the tide changes and if I can find a mud flat or somewhere they are feeding all the better.
what kind synthetic grass do you use and what would you recommend for a sneak boat like yours? i have a arthur armstrong wigeon 12 ft with a canvas wanted to know how to grass it out better just restored the whole thing!!!
I use mostly Avery killerweed, all terrain, then mix natural grass in for where I am hunting.
Owen Marsh I’ve always wanted an Arthur Armstrong boat. At one time the were made close to where I live in NC.
captndavie just bought mine off a fella who got it NC! he had it for years and so far ive had it for 8 months and hadnt got to knock down any birds!
