Can't say GG doesn't have variety.
May, the passion disaster and her unrequited-love song.

This song gets compared to Paramore's Misery Business often, and it's pretty uncanny. Also, May is named after Brian May because Queen and this is Guilty Gear.

Due to other GG fan's requests, I added the Arcade Ending theme (The Name of Heaven), the Story Ending theme (Talk About You), and DLC Ending Theme (Rock and Roll, Rock hard Maniac).

There are the odd few on the soundtrack that are more like this lol It was interesting to see you get to one... I think the others might be even less rock... Although there are some other rocky songs too, I think... I forget which ones are left... It'll be interesting to see what pops up next.

This IS a super fun song. Like you said, it's not necessarily one of my favorites, but that works in its favor sometimes because I always forget how amazing the guitar solo is. When the song gets to that part, then, it's like a happy little surprise. It's like "okay, yeah, fun beach-movie pop song... alright, there's the Guilty Gear guitar tone... Aisha sounds great as always... OH SHIT I FORGOT! AND IT JUST KEEPS GOING EVEN AFTER THE VOCALS COME BACK IN!" That's what it's like listening to this song.

I've heard you mention a few times that the vocals are often your least favorite part in these Strive songs.
In which case, I strongly suggest you check out some Blazblue songs. Similar if not same genre, but most of the soundtrack is instrumental.
Blazblue is another fighting game franchise from Arc System Works, and even though Daisuke wasn't the game director, he was still the one composing the songs.
To avoid some confusion though: characters themes from the first couple games all got re-arranged for latter releases, meaning early characters each got two version of their themes: an original and a remix.
So for example, Hazama's theme "Glutonny Fang" got remixed when the third game came out, and fittingly titled "Glutonny Fang II".

May is a pirate (air pirate), yes. Also she has super strength cause her ancestors where hit by magic radiation (very roughly put)
Okay so, the idea of "this song is about how May is in love with her foster father" does change the vibe a lot, but I feel people aren't getting the full picture by thinking it's just that.
May does have an unrequited crush on her foster father and captain Johnny- but in the context of the story, to May, getting accepted by Johnny as a lover seems to be synonynous with finally being grown up and mature. Feeling insecure about her maturity (despite her look, May is strongly hinted to be an adult at this point) is a huge part of May's character, and her wish to be seen as an equal by Johnny seems more like an extension of this.
I think her song here also additionally reflects that desire to "grow up" "properly" and all.
It's messy to be sure, but I think (hope) the writers are aware of this, based on how it's been portrayed so far.
As of right now, this story is unresolved, but I think it has the potential to be pretty good if they stick the landing 🤞

It's kind of amazing how long it took you to get to one of Aisha's songs lol. She generally sings for the more feminine characters. She's amazing and a huge sweetheart too, she's been getting into streaming on Twitch with Guilty Gear Strive being her first time playing a videogame ever!
May is the first mate of the Jellyfish Pirates. The leader of the pirates, Johnny, was orphaned by the crusades when he was only around 10 years old, and while he was able to become strong enough to fend for himself, his realization that not everyone was capable of that pushed him to start adopting female orphans of war and that's how he formed the pirates. May was the first that he found and she ended up developing an odd, one sided crush on Johnny. A lot of her actions in the series are either to impress or in protection of him. He does love her but only as a daughter. Her theme shows her trying to push these feelings down because she knows it's weird but she just can't, hense disaster of passion. She also happens to be Japanese which is significant considering Japan is a smoldering crater in the Guilty Gear world. She also has crazy super strength for no apparent reason, like I don't think there's actually any conclusive source on where her strength comes from but ppl just say oh it's the power of being Japanese lol. But it gives her the strength to wield that massive anchor and also do some other crazy feats of strength

Its not a meme that people say its because shes japanese. The actions of Justice and Asuka in Japan DID give the survivors superpowers

I thought she was so strong bc of Ki? Like aren't japanese people in guilty gear and (most asian people) predisposed to using it because they have such a long hitory of martial arts. Thats what I've read atleast.
