I did it! I only dropped the screw inside once (before I super-glued it to the bit). Easily got it out with my magnetized bit. Just took a bit of patience. It was helpful to know which way the latch fitted in, and which Torx bit to buy.

Very well-explained and attention-to-detail video. I couldn’t find a magnet from a flat screwdriver so I had to order a 3x10 mm Neodymium Cylinder thin craft magnet, which cost me £3.20. The overall cost for me here is £34(approx) to replace it. Once again many thanks for your video.

Huge thanks for posting this!! Your excellent description and video really helped me out with this repair. I didn't have a small enough magnet for the hole but I was able to magnetize my torx for the removal and then opted to minimally tape the screw to the torx for the replacement. The hardest part was directing the screw back in. Your tip on the key in the lock for the lock replacement was perfect! Thanks again!!!

Save yourself some time and put a magnet by the screw BEFORE fully unscrewing it. That way, it doesn't fall into the hole - you just pull it out with the magnet straight away.

You can't really sit the allen key and a magnet through the opening, its either one or the other

Had to order mine from the VW dealer, couldn't find any used, they all came with a glove box door and even used, was more expensive than just buying a new handle.
