Just want to mention, the snapshot of the CFRs in the background has one of my best friends squatting with the serious face lol. Fun fact - before he was a friar in college and I was going through the faith growth spurt, I asked him how to learn more about the faith and he recommended me to listen to Pints with Aquinas !
I went through this while dating my wife and discerning a Benedictine Monastic life. I think one danger here is the either/or mentality. No accusations here. Just don't think that because your not gonna be a priest that you have to marry that girl. Or look at religious vocations as a fall back if your girlfriend doesn't work out. Consider discerning marriage and vocations separately and on thier own. Neither could also be the path.
I 100% get Matt's fears about getting married. I do share most, if not all of them. The main reason the monastic life seems for me attractive is because I feel it'd allow me to run away from some of my greatest failings in the secular world.
I recommend you not going to the monastic life just because of your failings in the secular world, because you will be experiencing that same thing being in that religious life
As a monk, I can tell you that you will not escape yourself or the world (fuga mundi).
Babylon is rough. I was exploring the monastic path at Deer Park Monastery last year myself.

I love the Friars, I try to give them monetary gifts and things from Amazon when I can. You chose what your vocation should be. Do you keep in touch with them?
Gosh, I'm 20 right now and whatever my vocation is, its a long way off, but I don't know how I will ever decide. I'm often crippled by indecision on even basic tasks, idk how ill decide that!
