  • In this video, we’re comparing the 3 best travel credit cards in the Amex Platinum card, the Chase Sapphire Reserve, and Capital One Venture X to see which might be the best credit card for you. I personally have the Amex Platinum and have enjoyed the benefits on that travel credit card, but the Sapphire Reserve card and the Venture X card also offer a lot of value that have made them favorites for frequent travelers.
    Here, we’ll go over the annual fees, credits, and welcome bonuses on these 3 best travel credit cards as well as the points and miles categories and other major benefits that you need to know about. This Amex Platinum vs Sapphire Reserve vs Venture X video has a lot of info, so to make it easier to follow I’m also including this file to help you compare what each card offers: danielbraun.me/CompareTravelC...
    There’s plenty of great cheaper credit cards and other travel credit cards out there as well; but if you’re willing to pay a higher annual fee, then the American Express Platinum, Chase Sapphire Reserve, or Capital One Venture X could be a strong option for you to carry with you while traveling.

    This was a really great comprehensive comparison. You mentioned the simplicity of the Venture X... This is really what I like about it. Since I only travel a couple times per year, getting full use out of it will be easiest for me. It would be fantastic if Cap1 opens a lounge in PHL or EWR!

    @fluffywarhampster Год назад +3

    The best thing about the venture x is that's its a flat 2x points per dollar regardless of category rather than the lower return of some of the other premium cards. Chase does 3x or 4x on specific categories but when people are honest with themselves it's pretty clear that most people's spend isn't all in those categories. Not to mention if you get the cap on savior or savior one you can get 3-4x back on all those same categories that chase has and than just transfer the points to the venture x for travel booking.

    Premium travel! These 3 cards have each made a name for themselves in the premium travel space. Overall, I completely agree with your summary of each of the cards. I think of the Amex Platinum as a truly luxury travel card that only makes sense if you travel frequently every year and are going to take advantage of enough credits to cover that annual fee naturally. The Venture X is the best option for most people looking to get started in the world of luxury travel cards in my opinion. The lower AF and ease of use of the credits make it a really solid card and the lounges they're building are an added benefit! The Chase Sapphire Reserve just hasn't distinguished itself enough from the Chase Sapphire Preferred, so I have a hard time recommending it when you can get 80% of the value from a $95 annual fee card instead. At the end of the day, all 3 of these cards provide great value for specific people, and great job breaking all of these down so thoroughly yet succinctly Daniel!

    Excellent summary - just looking at the overall benefits vs. cost is a great way of profiling which card is best for your lifestyle. There's nothing worse though than being stuck with card that carries a high fee and you cannot downgrade or at least offset the fee after year 1. Cancelling a card isn't great for your utilization ratio and downgrading carries the risk of denial and/or a lower credit limit. So we definitely have to think about these risks before we apply on Day 1.
    If nothing else, you want your cards to at least have a place in your "sock drawer" where you can at least use it a few times per year to offset any fee or gain some kind of value from a targeted offer. As an example, I just upgraded (via product change) my Southwest Plus Card to the Southwest Priority Card. The latter has a $149 annual fee but comes with a $75 annual travel credit (including flights) and 7.5K per year anniversary points (which values >$100 since Southwest generally yields $0.013/.014 per point). So, just holding the card more than pays for the cost, plus Companion Pass is a possibility. The Plus card has a $69 annual fee and offers only 3K points / yr. Plus it has a foreign transaction fee while the Priority Card doesn't. And, Chase is known for making targeted quarterly offers for 5x points on many spend categories to add more value. So, it's totally worth keeping this card. I should have done this a long time ago and Chase sometimes has offers to upgrade the SW card with a bonus point incentive to Rapid Rewards (Southwest's Reward Program). I'd definitely recommend the card as Southwest is still a very affordable domestic carrier.
    Other than the Venture X (thanks to your illustration), the others carry a much higher risk of dead weight in your wallet long-term.

    • @Daniel_Braun
      @Daniel_Braun  Год назад +3

      Thanks so much for sharing all of that Scott! Agreed, always good to look at these things and plan ahead of time to avoid having to cancel later on if possible. Great example with that Southwest card too!

About 5k in Amex points on Rakuten. Did I mention that I get paramount free with the Walmart plus that they pay for (I watch a lot of soccer) and the digital credit pays for my entire HULU bill (with student credit of course). Also I put all my bills on the card invested in MULN and made a 60% profit on the cash I would've spent. I definitely plan to make the Cap1 VX my premium travel card.
    However, i will also keep the Chase SP or Ink P for access to their travel portal & transfer partners. I also have the Citi Premier in case they get more competitive in the travel game.

    Hey Daniel, new subscriber here! Great video! Had a quick question regarding the CSR and the VentureX
    I currently have the AMEX platinum and have been thinking about adding another travel card to my portfolio. One thing that hinders me from getting the VentureX is the limited amount of travel partners. Although it has two times points compared to the one point on chase sapphire , I value Hyatt as a better transfer partner than the ones I’ve seen from venture X. What do you recommend should be more of a priority: 2x points from VentureX or the ability to transfer to Hyatt with Chase Sapphire?

    Thanks for your videos - they’re super straightforward and helpful. I’m currently devouring your content as I have to pay > $25k upfront for a cruise I plan to take in 2023, so hoping to pay via various cards to create maximum rewards. It seems to get the most value from Amex/VentureX/Chase, one must book travel through their portals. 3rd party reservations are to be avoided in my book. Have you addressed the pro/cons of booking travel via these 3rd party portals vs direct?

      @DJ-rk6wh Год назад +2

      @@lilafitzgerald4742 that sounds like it's going to be an amazing trip. And if you have to drop 25k all at once then maybe go with the VX. They do 2x points for everything (you'll rack up 125k in points with that one purchase). Sapphire is only 3x point for the first $300 and Platinum is only 1x for everything. But I haven't had an issue with Chase's portal so far and I've done a few flights with them. In preparing for my cruise in January I'm using C1s portal to fly to MIA. And from the looks of it the flights are either on par or cheaper than booking directly with an airline. My only disclaimer is I only will use those portals for flights and nothing else as I'm part of a hotel loyalty program with a different CC. But to me the only big difference with the Reserve and the VX is that you get 50% more value on your points when you use the Chase portal. I guess a big thing to look into is what kind of travel insurances are offered as well. I personally have never had to use them and I hope I never do lol. I don't have an amex so I can't really speak too much on them. I personally did the VX because I only travel 2x a yr and the card will pay for its self without to much thinking on my part.

    • @lilafitzgerald4742
      @lilafitzgerald4742 Год назад +3

      @@DJ-rk6wh Great thoughts - much appreciated. Prob should have done the VX vs Platinum, but too late now. 3rd party portals are fine unless something goes wrong, then you've got a hurdle between you and help, imo, but 50% more lift may be worth the risk. Yeah, travel insurance is the next investigation. NerdWallet has a decent article on the topic. Thanks again. You should expand (further) into personal finance - you have a good, clear approach.

    A little late, however, I am torn between the Chase and Cap1. I like that Cap1's portal is more useful with price matching and typically better deals, which helps with getting a lot of points. However, Chase points are typically worth more with the Hyatt partnership on top of the addition of domestic partners.

If you have amex platinum can you also get a Charles Schwab, gold card, etc and get the welcome offer? How does that work, I've heard that amex is very restrictive on welcome offers, etc.
