i saw it. i think that while the story was ok, it was in the wrong setting. My friends and i went to see this movie to see more world building with the death angels and their origin. we already know about their sensitive hearing, etc. but this didn't really expand much on that. they're just...there. and in the movie, there seems to be some sort of strategy the military had figured out by having the helicopters flying in circles and the monsters chasing them but can't get to them. why not just keep doing that? or have boats on different sides of the island sounding their horn to keep the monsters confused and going back and forth?
at the end, the monsters seem to know that water is at the end of the pier and don't jump into it for some reason. seems off. also, they know the sounds attract the monsters so the boats continue to blow their horns because....and then we don't see monsters escape long island. so, how'd they destroy the world? they kind of touch on it with taht section where they're eating eggs? or something? but they don't explore further.
again, i didn't mind the story but they didn't build the world or story which is what this movie tried to advertise itself as - an origin story for the monsters. instead, we just see the meteors come and that's it.
also, that cat was basically the cause of most of their issues.

I can totally understand being okay with the story but NOT THE SETTING. I think it's interesting because I literally was telling my bf when we left the theater that I like when franchises branch out (within reason and if it works with the concept). The example I gave him was the MCU (Marvel Cinematic Universe) [ex. Captain America: The Winter Soldier, Black Panther, etc.] when they branch out of more than just a superhero movie.
✨I agree with so much of what you're saying here but exploring these elements at all would have taken away from Sam and her journey so that's why I wasn't feeling one way or another about these things.✨
I also totally understand why people expected more world building than what we've gotten so far. AND YES I SAW COMMENTS LIKE THAT people wanted more of the military side because they were mobilizing WELL BEFORE we see the first Death Angel landing. I think more on that would have been interesting because they really could have kept flying around making noise while the boats collected as many survivors as they could.
At that point in the movie (if I'm remembering right) that was the last boat so I'm sure one (or more) Death Angels actually went into the water, I assumed that the others learned they suck at swimming, haha.
The sound on the boat is something that would have been interesting to see too. The conflict of knowing they need to reach any survivors but they have to make noise to alert them but also knowing that noise will drawn the Death Angels.
I think they were able to spread because they actually landed all over the Earth and not just New York.
I understood the "eggs" as their food source? like a plant they were eating. I definitely agree though, they didn't explore that further and I wish they did.
Yessss! I wish the advertising was different because it's definitely giving DAY ONE and WHERE IT STARTED and WHY THE WORLD WENT QUIET. Like, we know/we can assume with context a lot of this already. The opening with the meteors is so good too, I just feel like we were sold more of that kind of action and intensity and we deeeefinitly got something else! 😅
Yo, you are so right. There were more than a couple of moments where I was thinking she needed one of those cat backpacks or a new leash or SOMETHING 😺
THANK YOU FOR YOUR COMMENT AND SHARING YOUR THOUGHTS! 😊✨
Edit: Sorry it got a little lengthy there, I LITERALLY have no one to talk to about movies! 😅

@@A.Rocket.Review no worries. Appreciate the effort to post a review and discuss.
You're right - I forgot that in a flashback in the first one, they show the meteors hitting all over the world. So it wasn't just on long island. But it still seems like a stretch to go from, aliens attacking to let's abandon the most populated place in the america, esp without some sort of action, fighting, strategy. They've shown that they can't fight against air and seem to blindly (pun intended) follow the air support making noise so why did that strategy fail? The us has the ability to keep aircraft in the air almost indefinitely while they figure out a counter offensive.
Also, I wish they would have shown people making subconscious noise (burping, snoring, etc). How do you control that? Or when she gasps, or is coughing, that's not enough to draw attention?
Like I said, I think this had a lot of potential, but the character growth of learning to live again against the losing alien invasion seemed to be off for my friends and I. Just wish it had been able to realize it's full potential.
Finally: glad the cat survived. But when the guy saw it when he emerged from the subway (for some reason), I figured it was the pixie from Zelda that couldn't die.
