Definitely not in a hurry to go back, turned down a trip this coming spring. Will prob try a different part of the system but unlikely to ever go to this section again. My wife death knuckled every second of it. We ride to hang out with our friends at its most simple form. I dont live to ride, nor do I ever intend to be a hardcore machine basher. When I saw a guy strap a car seat on the back of a four wheeler down there I knew I was in for something interesting. The fact they rent X3's to anyone with a credit card is mind boggling. Maybe youd like to risk death for a weekend of fun but yeah, as you stated you can count me out.
Great video! We probably went a week before you. We stayed at Ashland ATV Resort. The Indian Ridge Trail System, Green, was precarious. My wife was white-knuckled the whole time. It was our first time to the H-M Trails and ATVing. We thought the Green Indian Ridge Trails should have been More Difficult, and the Blue should have been Most Difficult. We took the Blue to try, and my wife really wanted to kill me. It was tough going. The trail systems you took, look much easier. Let us know where you ride in PA. We live in NJ and looking for something closer. Polaris Ride Command is the best! We use it for snowmobiling in Upstate NY.
Eric sounds like your experience was like mine. There's quite a bit I didn't show too. We live in the north central region of central pa. There's a few videos on my page of some riding here in pa that's more friendly!
@@jhoffman81 Thanks. And I apologize. I meant Indian Ridge above. I have updated it. We missed out on Pocohontas as our daughter forget her extra contacts and glasses, so we were trapsing all over So. WV looking for an emergency repair in Princeton and finally Beckley. You are correct, in that, you are in the middle of nowhere and the towns are in rough shape. Any big city is easily 45 mintues to an hour away. Thanks again.
@@ericlemon23 they took the Walmart out of the one town in that area! Have you been to Rock Run, Whiskey Springs, Lyman Run, Anthracite Outdoors, Mines and Meadows in PA? I have a video of some of those. Much more wife friendly lol!
Great video. Our first trip to HMT system was Rockhouse and Devil Anse. Loved Rockhouse. We did 3 days and hit Man, Gilbert and into the Buffalo system. Took my Polaris Ranger and a couple quads. It was wonderful. Good intel on the food. Take your own with a grill. You aren’t going into a luxury resort area. For most of us, it’s roughing it. But, it’s an incredible experience. Hitting Pinnacle next month.
Rockhouse was just too narrow for my wife's comfort level. She was on edge all day. Glad to hear most others are better. Probably won't return to Rockhouse. Have you been to Pinnacle Creek?
Thank you, much appreciated. My goal in videos is to try to keep it as real as possible! I'm kinda all over the map as a general outdoorsman so don't be shocked that all my videos aren't ATV focused.
@@Wutbuttonshoots Beau I haven't remembered when I'm in there to ask. Have taken a little break from riding. My email is on my profile if you wanna go that route. We can go for a rip. I know most ways up here.
The first time in HM we stayed in Matewan. Talk about desolate? Next trip was to Bluefield. The trails in Bluefield were more tame, almost to easy. They were all great and well maintained however the trails in Rockhouse, Devil Anse and Buffalo are definitely more advanced level. You went into the deep end of the pool right off the bat. We are middle aged similar to you. We haven’t needed to go on a black trail EVER! The trails are CRAZY in some places but very reasonable in most other places. I really enjoyed the format on the video, not filled with BS high speed runs and endless dialogue about the 20k worth of modifications to a 30k machine. Or banter about how good this ridiculously modified “insert OEM” is better than anything on the mountain. I look forward to more content. Subbed
Appreciate the feedback. We ride some black trails in Pa that are pretty gnarly but that down there a black trail is borderline insane! See ya around, hope to get some more buggy content here in the near future. Winter is driving me insane.
Absolutely terrible. You might get it at times on the mountain tops. Don't count on being able to share machine location with ride command. If you have radios take them!
Take a look at the other comments. Another guy left some remarks about places to try. There's no doubt that area is beat up. If you're staying near rockhouse or in the cabins go check out the Hatfield-McCoy moonshine distillery. It's weird getting into it but really nice once there. We didn't eat there but should've. I'd personally venture into town and try some of those places. The pizza/bbq place wouldn't be my first stop although not bad. Don't count on seeing Walmart or anything like that. The museum has a food truck. We had mozzarella sticks there that were good. I'd have ordered more if it had been closer to lunch.
I have rode most of the trail systems, imo Devils Anse is the best….RockHouse is probably the roughest. Also a lot of good places to eat and stay in Matewan. Pocahontas system is okay, biggest complaint there it can get dusty.
The trails aren't rated like they are in PA I talked to a lodging owner about that he told me they are rated based on the surrounding terrain no the difficulty of the trail. If you want a great place to stay stay at Devils Backbone Adventure Resort over on trail 59 of Devil Anse you can ride rockhouse, devil anse and bufflao mountain.

Exactly
Agreed, you should probably just stay in your backyard. Buggy is a mess.
Couldnt agree more with this comment!
You’re in the mountains.. you have to use switchbacks..
Yep, just tight as hell when wet with a 4 seater. No room for error.
My family vacationed here few years back. Good times
It's like a step back in time, definitely not a bad thing.

I like that format of video way better
Appreciate the feedback young man! See you again soon. We need to go fish the river when it has some water.
Keiths bar in Mann is good! And starters in Williamson is really good
The moonshine distillery was nice inside. We didn't eat there but should've.
Also stay at devils backbone ! Best resort down there

Yo Hoffman. Planning on riding out at Osceola this weekend. Will you be around?

@@jhoffman81 No, you would have to ride outlaw trails.

Odd, I'm used to the "ski slope" rating system but I agree that's where I'd stay too.
Always utv over a hill when we visit.. sometimes 5 a day. Trails arent oneway.. Mostly logging roads..
I'm shocked the state runs it and how tight it is in bad situations. If they were one way it would be a lot safer.
What were you using to show the little blue atv going through the mountains?
Polaris ride command. It's free on mobile.
What the whole trip cost ya
Rough guess... $300 to stay in the cabin. $150 in fuel. $200 in food/messing around. $650 give or take
Dude go to Mullens. Food and trails are way better.
Is that pinnacle? Or is it outside the Hatfield system? We are planning to return somewhere hopefully in 2025
@@jhoffman81 that it is. Ol Jose in Pineville and Rebel smokehouse in mullens are where you wanna eat at.
