Reruns of Leave It to Beaver, Bewitched, The Addams Family, and many other 50s/60s shows were such a part of my childhood. Those shows became important to multiple generations because we had so many fewer entertainment options than we do now.
Oh I LOVED every year of the 80s for sure... true story, I even remember crying a bit on New Year's Eve 1989 because the 80s were ending... it's just that the earlier 80s were my favorite.
1982-86 were my high school years and when new wave music and really '80s music in general was at its peak. So many great memories that come back when I watch these commercials from that era.
wow so many great cartoon and toy memories! Certainly didn't expect that Robotech at the end there, though I wasn't into that series at the time (although I confess I had quite a few of the Rock Lords guys, like the gold one, Nuggit)
@ 1:38 it's Frederick Koehler who played Chip Lowell on "Kate & Allie" (CBS 1984-1989). "Kate & Allie" aired forever it seems but what I really recall about the show is that it had a classic 80s sitcom theme song that aired during the closing credits lol
They are exactly the same. It's just that Keelber is no longer involved (Inventure Foods took over production in the '90s). 'Tato Skins' are still around and distributed in western U.S., while the TGI Fridays Potato Skins brand is national.
Looking at Morris the Cat and hearing its voice, makes me think "DAMN! That should have been Garfield from the Coen Bros. movie adaptation to begin with. everyone looks realistic why should he get exempt to looking cartoonish? maybe a cease and desist, but that would've been hundred times better for Bill Murray just to voice the cat's thoughts like those Look Who's Talkin babies
Just to correct you on point: the Garfield movie had absolutely nothing to do with the Coen Brothers. It was co-written by some guy named Joel Cohen and Bill Murray apparently agreed to do the movie under the assumption it was one of the Coen brothers who wrote it. Not the case. Part of me thinks this is Murray covering his ass with a made up story to justify taking a huge paycheck for bad movies. After all, he did the Garfield sequel too.
Real Antiperspirant-ship kind of looked like the Satellite Of Love from MST3K Leave It To Beaver-thankfully that wasnt the setup for a robbery Rambo-the"Force Of Freedom" cartoon had a sort of A-Team feel to it,in the gun battles of course lol M.A.S.K-those vehicles shown were hardly utilized in the show proper(the Stinger,i think was used in the "racing" season, which IMO was when the show jumped the shark..)
Just an observation, I never liked it when a TV station would end the closing credits of a show early. What good is there in doing that? BUT, I am ok with the WXON ID. Pretty neat for the 80s. ROCK LORDS again! Ok with this too! REAL Antiperspirant. Because FAKE wouldn't sell! Those Tegrin ads used to scare me! Well, the guy in them did.
MASK was a seriously awesome cartoon and toy line that really should have gone over a lot better. I used to think a live action movie would be awesome, but given Hollywood's track record with nostalgic 80s properties, it would likely suck eggs and have nothing to do with the source material. *sigh* Why can't Hollywood get nostalgic toys and cartoons right?
"Hasbro's upcoming cinematic universe." Oh ...oh So does this mean we'll get a Filmation cinematic universe featuring He-Man, BraveStarr and the fake Ghostbusters for giggles?
I'm still waiting for a live action adaptation of an 80's cartoon that actually does justice to the original source material. The closest thing I've seen is G.I. Joe: Retaliation.
I've never actually seen the G.I. Joe movies though I don't hear good things, are they worth the time watching? Also, it seems to me that Hasbro have already played most of their hand at a CU with the Transformers movies, unless they're going to do a Spider-man and have a reboot in quick succession to the last series. I mean, the idea has potential, I've heard the G.I. Joe and Transformers comics were really fun, but the past record of Hollywood doesn't fill me with any confidence...
The first G.I. Joe movie is a complete mess, but the sequel (aka reboot) was enjoyable enough and is worth watching for the scene involving Cobra taking over the White House (foreshadowing of things to come lol?). With the Transformers movies...I don't understand why they can't just watch the goddamned cartoon...and just do that in live action. But I suppose they're going to keep making the same crap as long as they keep making a gazillion dollars in China. Still waiting for someone to make a Dino Riders movie. Hoping for a hard R rating with graphic dinosaur violence.
Honestly, I can't understand how we're on our second reboot of Spider-Man, but the Transformers is still going. My dream is for that series to be rebooted with a new director, new writers, and entirely new plotline that completely forgets everything that's happened. Heck, I'm a film reviewer for a blog, and see just about everything at the theater, and I have stated I refuse to see the one that just came out. I just can't watch these movies anymore.
_25. Rambo Action Figures (I bet kids were just lining up around the block to buy their own Richard Crenna action figure!_ I've had a theory about that for some time; I think that Crenna's Col. Trautman (in the _Rambo_ movies) was meant to be based on John Wayne's Col. Mike Kirby from _The Green Berets._
Actually having to fabricate tools is far from uncommon in restoration. A lot of companies when building items built special tools that were custom to certain production items or even one off items like the statue of liberty. I have a hobby that involves restoring aircraft with a group of other people and you will find in old manuals a reference to use tool "x". When you look up the tool you will find it was used on a major production aircraft in say, 1935, but now the tools have long since disappeared and you need to fabricate a replacement. In fact it still happens today, if you get the factory manual to your car you may see references to manufacturer specific tools that set tolerances for function but no reference to what the tolerance is.
GoBots in 1986...they weren't great two years earlier, and it took a great deal of convincing that I wanted Transformers instead. Oh well. I forgot E.L. Fudge weren't sandwich cookies to begin with. Oh Robotech, how I loved you then, and hate you now.
Seriously. Rock lords. Transforming........into rocks. How stupid is that for an executive? At least turning into.......tables and chairs is something creative. Rocks. What, did they run out of cocaine after making Visionaries?
@@butchdeadlift10 It makes sense for Tonka the producer of toy construction equipment to make some sort of sub toy to go with it, if your done with the big rock battles then the trucks come in and "clean" up the mess

One of my favorite years in the 80s! All time fave might be 1983... basically 82-86 rocked it for me.
Oh I LOVED every year of the 80s for sure... true story, I even remember crying a bit on New Year's Eve 1989 because the 80s were ending... it's just that the earlier 80s were my favorite.

awesome. This is the station that I used to watch when I was a kid....
Spottedfeather i couldn't hear the ID very well, but where was WXON located, and was this a local O&O, or network affiliate.
NOW, it's a MYtv affiliated station. Back in the 80s, it was an independent station. It used to be a WB station, too. It's from Detroit.
Oh man I loved M.A.S.K. thanks for the memories.

Man, I miss these old school promos.
These are from Sunday, 5/25/86. "Star Games" aired at 7 PM, followed by "Return of the King" at 8 PM.

I remember the big Statue of Liberty renovation/restoration back in '86. Didn't know they straight up replaced the torch.
Wow.
History and memories all in one convenient package
Tonka, the only company that could make rocks as toys appealing
All part of Hasbro now!
Tato Skins were amazing.
Joseph Santi soooo agree! Wish they still made them...

Sounded like William H Macy as Tractor in that MASK commercial.
Also, WOW is that some tight spandex on the guy in red.
3:03 damn i bet the person who won that was the talk of the neighborhood
The Mom holding the baby at the end of the Baby Magic lotion commercial is Mary Cadorette who starred in Three's A Crowd alongside John Ritter RIP
