    From a study on these kinds of smoke grenades...
    Chemical characterization of the M-83 grenade and the M-8 smoke pot showed that formaldehyde, benzene and carbon monoxide were the major organic vapor by-products formed. These by-products were above their respective ACGIH threshold limit values at various concentrations, but should not pose a hazard if the smoke is deployed in an open area. Overall, TPA is a safer training smoke to replace the HC smoke.

    The last one was impressive for density but so was the first . I think the difference came in a lull in the breeze for the last one and it seemed to have a second route of escape close to the main end dispenser maybe compaction and that extra distribution is key . If the end cap doesn't pop and instead two smaller escapes open with the inside compacted under pressure that would be interesting to see to .

    Hmm seems like a good formula but the dumping tells me its a high burning mix. Try adding an ammonium phosphate fire retardant....perhaps monoammonium phosphate the dry powder from a class a fire extinguisher. I would start with 1 part monoammonium phosphate and slowly work my way up to a maximum of 10 parts to determine maximum smoke output and combustibility while increasing the length of smoke output
    ;)

    • @NickFrom1228
      @NickFrom1228 3 месяца назад

      It might be as simple as altering the ratios a bit. Upping the sugar a couple percent at a time until a suitable ratio is found may work. If we weren't after non-toxic then some rubber powder may do it.

    • @kingdarkem
      @kingdarkem 3 месяца назад +2

      @@NickFrom1228 well the ratios look good to me. The monoammonium phosphate comes from a natural stone called biphosphammite. It is commonly used as a toy. Those none toxic growing your own crystal kits for kids. It's used cause it's a water soluble powder which has dyes added to it so kids are attracted to them. Adding the monoammonium phosphate will coat each granule. In effect it will inhibit access to oxygen helping slow the burn rate. Possibly adding to the smoke generation properties in the mixture. This happen by giving off ammonia and phosphoric acid when heated, which can dilute the oxygen concentration to slow a burn. When heated to high temperatures it can give off water and ammonia further slowing the burn rate.
      Its used in standard pyrotechnic mixtures so it should also be easy to buy from any pyrotechnic chemical supply.
      Its only really toxic if you inhale a bunch of it. May look like nose beers but its not nose beers.

    • @InventionIncarnate
      @InventionIncarnate  3 месяца назад

      That’s a suggestion from someone who knows his sh_t.
      I attempted using 3% stearic acid with this formula, however, the mix seemed more aggressive and lot of devices which couldn’t handle the pressure burst. I’m not sure if it was the composition, or compression, or coring the center, or exit oriface, or any combination there of. I pulled that formula from the military training grenades. However, those were bound with 1%pva (final dry mass) I’m wondering if that 1%pva takes the edge off. Also, do you have any insight on pelletizing. I’ve attempted to granulate a number of comps, that always ends poorly.
      ***UPDATE***
      3 months later:
      The stearic acid needs to be ground independently, to a superfine powder prior to mixing with the rest of the ingredients. The output is certainly higher from empirically observing two separate 100g loose powder samples.
      All forms of pelletizing have failed, the only successful means I’ve found is compression of the dry mix, coring, and igniting from the bottom of the cored center

    Maybe a little sodium bicarbonate to lower the burn temp and avoid the flares?

    • @InventionIncarnate
      @InventionIncarnate  3 месяца назад +1

      The flaring was mitigated by modifying the exit orifice (by third attempt) also, the primer that the fast visco fuse mounts to in the bottom of the bored center was too much material being launched like a flaming ball.
      There is 6% magnesium carbonate and I’m reluctant to add more bicarbs to mitigate flaming because this formula DUMPS smoke so fast. I think that flaring can be eliminated via device design vs compromising rate

    The material commonly called polyester is polyethylene terephthalate (PETE). I don't know if it would work anything like the pure TPA powder, but it would certainly be cheaper and easier to get. It might be worth an experiment. You might try using polyester batting, which is the filling in most pillows.

      “Parts” don’t need to add up to 100, percentages do. However, I found another recipe that calls for those same “parts” as percentages and that missing 3% is stearic acid. It’s a military training smoke grenade comp. I personally tested and it rocks

    A promise i'm not trying to be a troll but I think you would have better results if you introduced a petroleum product or something like that and so that the smoke is heavier because that smoke is very light and airy it's thick but it's it's leaving the surface of the ground too quickly what you wanted to lay low and linger and you can do that by introducing either petroleum jelly or oil or diesel or something like that in there that will keep the smoke heavy
