I like animals. I have a German Shepherd. I treat him like a dog, he’s trained, and all he wants is to be petted and sit by my side. It’s strange how people forget that animals do not think like us, they don’t expect or need much from us.
My mom adopted a puppy shortly after she moved away, and the other day she referred to me as her "non-fur daughter" 😂😭 I am slightly insulted but it's so ridiculous I can't help but laugh.
Adoption of a human being requires thousands of dollars, a home study and is generally super complex. They make it incredibly difficult to do so. I'm glad you mentioned loneliness, which is the heart of adoption in general, whether it's pets or children. Pets are less expensive, less complicated and don't require so much complexity to adopt. Many infertile couples will prefer to adopt pets over people. The truth is that they make abortion free or super cheap and easy and make adoption super expensive and difficult. It's a sad sad world. Lord have mercy. 🙏🏻😢✝️
Where I live you have to be over 40 years old to adopt and have to be already married for a decade and you have to have a set amount of liquid money in your bank account and the ownership of at least one apartment
It is sad. I'm blessed to be an adoptive mom (of a domestic teen, so not too expensive a process, though maintenance was!). My now-adult son has a family with humans & critters. I encourage (human) adoption for those that have appropriately grieved infertility and can embrace an adoptive family as a different, blessed experience. Lord, have mercy on grieving would-be parents & waiting children! (As well as the sweet pets we enjoy! I have lots!)
i love my dog quite a bit. but it's a dog, not a child. its place is being my dog. i love her and treat her like a close friend, but in exchange she protects the house and keeps me company. but she's not a human being.
Lol I see this all the time, but the animals don't really like the person as much as the person likes them, and then there are those chad monks who feed the cats and occasionally hang out with them and the cats can't stay away from him because they love him.
Cute cats... was not expecting a dead mouse, though, haha! Once as a kid I had two pet mice and a cat, the one white mouse (like in your video) killed the other (I didn't know then not to keep two males together, I was only 8), and then it was just the cat and mouse. Both cat and mouse had white fur, both just got along and played together. It used to amuse my neighbours that the cat would never harm the mouse!
@@venus_envyThank you 🙂 I keep snakes and have a freezer full of farm raised mice. When I got Ostružinka as a kitten from a local Orthodox priest a year and a half ago, I fed her normal canned food. But one day I had a mouse left that no snake wanted, so I gave it to Ostružinka. The excitement in her eyes!! Our priest has a small farm and his cats know and catch mice. Since then, Ostružinka has been getting about two mice a week. On the other hand, in the past I had a rat as a pet and Chikita, the black cat, I've had her for 15 years, was rather afraid of the little rat and definitely didn't chase her...
I think it’s people filling a hole in their hearts from not having enough children (theirs or those of friends and family) in their lives. Having less than three children (I have none myself, guilty) per married couple whenever possible seems to be the shift where societies become more materialistic and immoral. The cat/dog mom/dad thing is gross either way. I love animals but they aren’t people.
God expects us to care for animals, and we have two dog pets that were rescues, cats that were rescues, injured birds brought to the nature center, donations to animal welfare and wildlife centers, etc. But, this new ridiculous focus on pets is due to baby absence, proven by the flourishing pet big box stores vs baby stores, etc.
I think most of the appeal of pets is that they are always lovable and will always be subservient. Humans are neither. A human will be hurtful, mean, do things you hate, and therefore they’re basically an easy thing to love.
Man is truly a priest with respect to animals. St. Maximos the Confessor stresses man's role as mediator between God and nature. We're their nearest experience of God. We should act accordingly. We praise God on behalf of the natural world. Human beings are the only way that animals come to know God. We mediate Him to them, fulfilling our baptismal roles as priests with respect to creation, again, according to the thought of St. Maximos the Confessor. Having a pet is a good way to fulfill this purpose, and so we should be kind to our pets, as to all animals. But given our role vis-a-vis God and creation, our pets should be worshipping us, and not us them.
Finally! Someone calls it like it is. You are 100% correct. Unfortunately, here in America what you said would be considered anathema. I'm so sick and tired of this pet worship in this country. Loving your videos more and more. Thank you Bojan!
The problem is that pet worship is not the cause but the effect! The cause is loneliness and isolation, which is a consequence of the nuclear family as a product of capitalism and the disintegration of this nuclear family in late capitalism. That lonely people then seek at least some living company is quite understandable. This is not to say that it is right to equate animals with humans or higher, but honestly: can we even judge the consequences of such a long-term, quarter-millennium-long deformation of human relationships?
So many comments, so little time....😂 I live in the country (acres of woods) with 3 Chihuahuas & 3 (outdoor, working) cats.... I casually and somewhat in jest think of myself as the "mom," because they are dependent on my care (and it's hard to escape this sense when they are also physically small). I have enough humans regularly in my life, but I still welcome the company of my menagerie in my large space. As littermates, the dogs sleep in mutual comfort on a different floor of the house from me 😁, and the cats, all related, have their own "family group," too -- plus, the pups & kittens grew up together, so they get along & play well together outside -- snow or sun! "Gifts" are things they need anyway; I just try to get the dogs excited about -- or at least to tolerate -- sweaters (for our current 20° days!) by wrapping them at Christmas, and using the "happy voice" while we open them! 😂 It sort of works. In America, the widespread replacement of child-rearing with pet-ownership (not only for single people but also for presumably stable &/or fertile married couples) is deeply disturbing*, though I think the ADDITIONAL appropriate companionship of animals can be very beneficial for people of all ages in nearly any situation. (Our monastics traditionally relate well to animals; I don't think they have their affections lopsided, though!) My priest makes the observation that unlike humans, animals honor God in that they don't act contrary to their created nature.... 🤔😉 [*Seriously, what is with the "I love my dog/cat, but I don't like other humans"-themed t-shirts?!? They're everywhere....I think they were the "Wine Mom" shirts of 2024. 😬] Happy New Year 🎉, and good riddance! Lastly, on pets & nature "red in tooth & claw" -- you haven't lived until your outdoor summer evening lounge chair reading has been rudely interrupted by the wild shreiking of a vole (a small, but pesky, garden rodent), and, after following the whirling mob of critters in pursuit, you finally identify the successful hunter as your most adventuresome Chihuahua -- its prize dangling from its teeth. God-willing, all critters will continue to respond as fervently to my calls of "Big Bird! House! Now!" as they do placidly to the RUclips stylings of St. Tikhon's monks. 🎶💙🐕🎵 Soothing the savage beasts, indeed! 🤗🙏🕯️☦️
Animals are fine in their place. But you are absolutely right Here in the US and I suspect in Europe as well. People are often more concerned with the welfare of animals, than for Children. This is repulsive to me. Especially when viewed through the politics of abortion one begins to understand the depths of depravity to which we have fallen.
They are part of food chain! Our reality is incredibly complex. Mao tried to remove pests which caused other pests to increase, then famine. One beautiful documentary about Earth showed how small plants from Chile are taken by the wind to the sea to feed something eaten by fish, they being food for bigger fish. So whales depend on these plants from Chile :) Settlers brought to USA bees which pushed away many local species. It's not good because some plants can be pollinated only by specific insects. Scientists still don't know how human immune system works, etc. They keep changing theories. Biodiversity is amazing

Good point. I think it is. I have more experience with narcissists and they want to be the centre of our attention, take place of God. Money, pop idols, even anima heroes are being idols nowadays.
Great video! You know one thing I have found is that dogs(pets in general) are a lifeline to people who have gonna through trauma or other issues that making communal relations difficult or strained, and can have a restorative effect to the human. That being said, it certainly can take bad forms as well. Hopefully our good Lord will be merciful to us, and understand most of us are trying the best we can given our fallen natures and circumstances.
I worked with dogs for a year. I loved them but you can see that the relationship most people have with their animals is bad for them. These dogs essentially have a God complex for lack of a better term. The best thing you can do for a dog is ignore them when you enter and leave your house and this small thing is even beyond what people are capable of.
Treat animals like a friend/roommate or bodyguard: You don’t snuggle with them in bed You don’t let them lick your face You don’t go to the mall and take photos with them They are not children, though you buy them food and pay the rent
I agree completly and I'm a little more strict about it my wife loves her cats but I tell her all the time they are just animals. I hate it when someone judges how I would treat a human child just because I'm not treating a pet like my own offspring.
I'm a huge dog person, had multiple dogs most of my life and loved them all. But I can never wrap my head around the "dog parent" thing. Not that I don't understand the love people have for their pets, I absolutely do, but I feel like it's a sort of disordered thinking, a twisting of proper hierarchies. An (actual) child is a dependent that you raise to adulthood to take on their role as an adult human, with all the attendant rights and responsibilities that role entails. A pet is a dependent who remains a dependent their whole life. They don't inherit your position in society, they don't pass on your name, they don't carry human civilization on that next step into the future. Maybe they don't want or need my sympathy, but I always feel bad for "pet parents" when I hear the term. It's not everyone's vocation to raise children, and that's fine, but "raising" pets AS children feels like a parody of the vocation of parenthood. Like it's a path they felt called to, but never walked.
I though they follow alpha males, hierarchy, food sources. Their psychology is very different from human. Jackson Galaxy made me aware how much different species cats are.
