Nothings wrong with the perk, survivors that run it should be encouraged to take chase and help their teammates if they don't do that with distortion on though 😅.
I just use ghetto distortion to counter BBQ which is the classic "hide your aura behind the generator aura for 7s when the killer hooks someone". Of course, this requires you to be near a generator, but it's actually very effective.
Distortion is an all or nothing perk. Either you're gonna get value from it, or you won't. If the killer has no aura reading, then it's just an empty perk slot
It depends on the killer tbf cuz like hunter she needs aura reading perks to do orbitals etc while np wesker needs gen regresion perka sinc he is a more of a "hunting" killer like ghost face (he mainly goes for hits not gens)
I agree and there's so many perks like that. If you run end-game perks and die before the last gen pops, you essentially played with an empty slot (adrenaline, wake up, hope)
It's amazing, it gives info, it counters killers who rely on aura reads, it lets my teammates get chases which they love, and most of all, makes Nurses and Blights cry. I however despise people who don't contribute to fixing gens or unhooking when using it. Like why do they even hide when the perk gives you safety from aura reads?
Distortion is fine as it is. Killers have the option to either play an one-shot, aura reading or gen regress build. It’s absolutely fine that this perk exists as it is to counter aura reading! Remember what DBD was at the beginning. A hide and seek game. Now it’s simply (from killers perspective), equip the right perks and screw all survivors. 🫠
My issue with Distortion is how it can focus preassure on certain other Survivors. I know that was already kinda covered in the "Oh they just let their teammates die" argument. But even if they are a team player...sometimes, the Killer is just going to act on the info they have. A Blight once ping ponged back and forth between my Duo and I. I was dead at 5 Hooks. We wondered how the other two never got found/picked, and they were both Distortion users. Even if they weren't trying super hard to hide, it didn't stop the Blight from going "I SEE AURA I APPROACH AURA WITH MALICIOUS INTENT". Even IF the Distrotion user tries to take heat, the Killer has already b-lined for the aura they see. Some Killers also are not sly about what Auras they have. So even without Distrotion, good game sense can reveal some things. Oh, they kicked a Gen and magically knew I was in this cornered bush? Nowhere to Hide. They B-Line it for the two healing in a straight line? BBQ. And my friends and I don't need Distortion to call those out. Add-Ons might be a bit trickier if you aren't well versed however.
I agree, good teammates should help survivors who are dead on hook or being tunneled. I don't think to the point of throwing the match, but a teammate with hooks to give should try to help. The killer may still go for the survivor that's dead on hook because, honestly, that's a good strat if the killer really wants to put pressure on the survivors. But yeah, teammates who don't help is painge in solo q. Absolutely, you don't need Distortion to figure out if the killer has aura reading. The perk just makes it easier. And like you said, figuring out some add-ons can be tricky, so Distortion comes in handy for those as well.
honestly out of my 1565 hours on DBD i rarely if EVER run into anyone running distortion let alone calm spirit.. the outcry from both parties i think is just a few vocal minority and just want a quick/easy game. which is against the origional spirit of DBD. another topic that should be explored imo is why do soo many people view this game as hyper competitive like Call of Duty or League of Legends.. keep in mind im a doctor main.
I have noticed some people running calm spirit lately because of ultimate weapon, but not much. It caught my attention when I noticed because like you say, no one ever runs that. I would have thought that playing as doctor you'd see calm spirit a bit more, that's interesting. Thanks for sharing.
Honestly people who hate stealth just hate fun. Legitimately, I have not heard ONE person who hates stealth not say something like "The way I play is objectively how any person can enjoy the game, yep, looping is the only thing fun about this game so don't tell me you're actually having fun playing in a way that YOU want to play" and it's so annoying. I like to play stealthy, I hide in lockers, I sneak around the killer, I run stealth perks, but I still take hits for team mates, I still do gens, and I still go for unhooks. People who hate Distortion becuase it's stealthy are just those same people who hate the fact that there's more than one way to enjoy the game and hate that you want to enjoy the game the way you like it.

And if you can't handle survivors having something you need to play around as killer, just disconnect. Unless you DC every game, it's like 10 to 20 seconds wait time, which is barely anything if you have something to do. As a killer main, I don't mind it when survivors prefer hiding. To me the game is a lot more fun when everyone treats it as a horror game. If you're speaking from a meta perspective, I'm not interested, I don't want to play the game like an absolute sweat, I just want to enjoy the damn game with gimmick builds and fun.

Distortion also has a cool gimmick with object of obsession, I think it makes it so killers can’t see you but you can see them when it procs (haven’t tested it yet)
Hey if any killers are looking for some alternatives to aura reading perks, try and see how well your killer does with both tinkerer and discordance, With this combo, you will know if 2 or more survivors are on a gen near you AND you will also be notified once if the gen is near completion. I have 2000 hours in dbd and lemme tell ya this combo helps my game sense/awareness ALOT. Helps me know when and what gen I should be defending and why.
Can add Call of Brine to the list really. I use it often cause Great Skill checks are not as common as one would think. More often than not, you'll be alerted that a Survivor is on the gen you regressed and should continue to pressure that gen.
I see so many people hating on people that use distortion and I think it's super useful for one person to have to tell your teammates "Hey the killer has lethal" etc.
I only use Distortion when I'm solo queueing. I'm perfectly fine with being chased and sharing Hooks but sometimes it's tiring to be the first one hook and then just dying.

The reason people use distortion is because they are bad in chase and would rather not get chased, but as a result they end up trying to stealth all game instead of doing objectives
For the way I'm forced to play,yes. Its fucking amazing. I nearly have to run wake up sole survivor and low profile. But object makes me obsession. And a lot of people run friends til the end. So distortion will give me escapes. It's the only way i can get escapes unfortunately. I play solo queue and i cant escape any other way. I get sandbagged. Tunneled off hook,other survivors dont do gens or if they do fail every skill check. I have to play like an asshole or else I'm going to lose.
I'd say it's kinda difficult to make every perk do something every match. There's a finite number of game mechanics that can make perks effective. I agree that perks that guarantee value are nice.

I have had to many matches where I feel like I am being "tunneled" but it turns out that two or even three people were using Distortion to rat around the map.
It really depends on the survivor and how they use it. Some people just wanna stealth, do gens and get out. In my opinion, that'll always be in the game, regardless of which perks survivors use.
That's not true it does not make you hide. Yes they can't see you but it let's you know what perks killers has. So you can play around and still take chase. Like he said in the video. Killers who complain about Distortion are morons. I barely run distortion, and why? Because something like 60% of the time the killer your facing doesn't have aura reading perks anyway. So it's a gamble perk. Plus if let's say you're going against someone like a Michael Myers who has it set so while stalking he can see auras, guess what? The perk will be gone ASAP.
If your a surv8vor main that ovoid taking a chase you don't deserve to escape. Wut they only play this game to hide and do gens without trying to get better in chase then they have no business playing this game might sound Gate keepy but it's the truth the game is a chase game. Someone can literally crouch walk away from the worked on Gen killer has no way of finding him has no choice but to let that Gen go it gets done just cuz they hid its bullshit and loozes games for killers all the time
I agree that taking chase, especially if a teammate needs help, is very important for the team. There's a lot of situations that can happen in a game trying to find a survivor. Distortion will help survivors stealth in some of them, but game sense on the killer's side can counter it too. Aura reading perks are complimentary to game sense imo and killers shouldn't rely solely on them. Same for survivors, relying on stealth only won't allow for looping skills improvement, but stealthing sometimes is the right call when survivors don't have anything to work with around the map or are injured. It really depends on the situation.
Distortion players are the worst teammates. They're the Yui and nancy players of perks. Does absolutely jack shit all game. Brings the killer to your Gen and let's you die on first hook while they just hide in a corner turning a 15 match into a 35 minute match cause hiding is all they know what to do.
Maybe, but they'd be worse without distortion. Because their alternative is hiding in lockers. While with distortion they'll at least do gens when the killer is far away.

Even if the killer doesn’t have an aura reading perk, it takes away ambiguity of whether the killer has wall hacks. So that’s nice
As a solo q main, I recommend distortion, I can get a head start on the 3 gen while the killer goes elesewhere. Excellent perk.

I do gens a lot, I just use it to stay under the radar, but I do try to help when I can, most commonly by unhooking

It doesn't. Object of Obsession only shows you the killer's aura when the killer can also see yours. Distortion blocks both.

I combine this perk wirh lightweight light footed and quick and quiet

It’s good but what kills it for most is the fact that it only has 3 tokens. If a killer has lethal persuer you literally start out with just 2
You can have a max of 3 tokens at a time, but you can get tokens back by spending 30 seconds within the killer's terror radius.
Perks that specifically counter one thing and do nothing when that thing isnt in play are a bit problematic in my opinion
