In the past, I didn't like the "modern" funk at the time compared to the oldschool stuff, because I'm a fan of batucada, tamborzão, funk de barreira, etc... a funk that is heavier and more percussive, like the african rhythms you see here in roda de macumba, candomblé, etc... which was lacking in the funks of the time, that focused more on the explicit lyrics with a very weak electronic bassline. Even back in the 90s, there were various tries in mixing Funk Carioca with other genres, including other electronic genres. Here where I live, Eletrofunk( Funk with a House bassline) was quite popular at some time, but I still found it weak, because House is not really a "hard" EDM style. Brazilian phonk was like an itch I had for years that was finally scratched. A bassline as hard as Hard Trance from the 2000s or Hard Bass from Russia, but with the rhythm of the batucada. This is the type of song worth buying a Chevrolet Saveiro, filling that shit with horns and sub-woofers, and making a whole neighborhood deaf. One day, someone will manage to combine Prog Trance Pedrada with Brazilian Phonk, then the world will know the craziest Electronic Music style ever conceived by mankind. BTW, Any gringo whom wants to know more about this beat in Brazilian funk and phonk, they are based on bell patterns from Afro-Brazilian religions.
