I saw this as a kid at a military base theater overseas, and didn't see it for decades until Warner Archive released a made-on-demand DVD. I now own their blu-ray, mainly because the score by Gary McFarland is so first-rate and the cast is absolutely wonderful. There's an exceptional main theme played on solo harp at the beginning of the film. Luckily Film Score Monthly eventually released it on an excellent CD, and I'm so glad it's been preserved.
Boy, Marty Ranshoff had some combover! Thanks Uncle Dante! I've never seen this one. The Manson murders freaked me out like no horror movie ever has - particularly the Helter Skelter book that consolidated everything.
Watched this over the weekend! Always felt it was weirdly edited. Also always thought Sharon’s voice in the film was dubbed, it sounds nothing like her at all, especially if you listen to her in the trailer. Thanks for sharing this! ❤
I've heard conflicting reports about whether her voice was dubbed---I'd love to know for sure. It's true her natural voice was much higher-pitched, but she may have been lowering it? If they did dub her voice, they did a great job synching.
I love how the featurette narrator says that being chauffeured to a vineyard in the south of France and posing for photos and meeting David Niven is “hard work.” Sure.
David Niven always smelled of dead people because he slept with his dead wife's corpse for about three years. This made it difficult for other actors but some say it enhanced their performances. It was always hard work to be anywhere near him! Charming personality though.
@@ProfessorEchoMedia no.. I just have an imagination. He wasn't really sleeping with his dead wife but it's funny to me to make fun David Niven because he was so cool... so suave.
@ i was only kidding with you, man. I agree about Niven and he had a great sense of humor about himself and could be very self deprecating at times. A cool guy all the way around.
The movie is interesting, but the screenplay is trite. How come they didn’t mention Sharon being a semi-regular on THE BEVERLY HILLBILLIES prior to making this film? And man did that producer Ransohoff have the world’s worst comb over or what?
Yay -- didn't know you're a Philly guy! S. Philly guy here. LOVE these movies. Know exactly where the 69th Street theater is. (Saw U2 there...) and live nearby. But I saw most of my movies -- including Planet of Vampires, at the Colonial (11th and Ritner iirc -- also seen in "Clean and Sober").. The (hard to find) Wild, Wild Planet is among my favorite sci fi flicks and "Anthony Dawson" ; among my favorite directors especially "Castle of Blood" (much less so his remake). Somehow, Eye of the Devil slipped past the radar. Probably because I'm more into giallos and Euro goth horror from the era. Thanks for bringing this one to my attention, Joe. I'll be on the lookout. Can't wait to see this -- excited to, as I thought I've seen all of these types of films. IF, on the off, you happen to read this, another obscure film that scared the b'zesus out of me as a kid watching it on "Dr. Shock" (I know you know who that is...) is, "The Witch's Mirror". An obscure, absolutely unique, Mexican horror flick now streaming on Prime. You'll love it if you've never seen it -- and you likely haven't.
I remember watching this on TNT on an afternoon sometime in the early 90s (or very late 80s). I would have been somewhere between 12 to 14 years old at the time and I was thoroughly impressed and entertained by the film. I'm due for a rewatch, thanks Joe.
Deborah "Kerr" as in "Car" not as in "Burr". She was terrific in the spooky The Innocents. I am surprised that MGM as late as this movie was made was still deferring to the Catholic League of Decency.
Finally saw EYE not that long ago, and while it's definitely strange, Tate & Hemmings are both gorgeous, and the picture edges into being somewhat funny in a retro Camp sort of way, it's also guilty of that cardinal sin for this kind of picture, it's really kinda dull! Thanks for the oddball promo, though! A real treat if you can get past the Ransohoffian masturbatory aspect of it. And the TCM logo floating at the bottom makes it reminiscent of so many of the illegal DVDs that joker sells from his little table at Union Square park in NYC...
It's a news reel not the movie so no TCM is floating anywhere. 🙄 You clearly have no taste nor education regarding this genre of movies. Nothing worse or more pointless than an uneducated opinion.
I don't like it when they play the logos but TCM keeps it at a minimum. there's another old time channel that has their logo on and it doesn't disappear... Hollywood classics? So obscene to do that. I try to find old cartoons on youtube and they do that too. they have some old Bugs Bunny cartoon with the big logo right one rh east at all times. Weird how people are okay with that.

The first TFH to make this man cry. Sharon’s tragedy is not abstract to me, but a trigger all widowers must experience.
So fascinating how they used the "Monkeess Last Train to Clarksville" as the dance club music. To see Tate is amazing and heartbreaking.
She is amazing for 22 years old.
What a cast though
Right ????
Great to have a new TFH from the master B-film scholar/artist himself.
To me, she was extremely lovely in Fearless Vampire Killers, my favourite vampire flick. The above is a worthy tribute to her.
I love your films and I really respect your whole attitude and that so many folks sing your praises. Luv Ya.
GREAT VIDEO! Thank you TFH!
I was mesmerized by Sharon Tate's beauty in this movie.
I saw this on a lazy Sunday on TCM back in the 90’s, and loved it. It was great and she was gorgeous.

Wow, thank you.
I was NOT expecting the jumpscare at 4:14
I think it was crawling away and by the end of the interview, hiding under his desk.
Hey, this would be perfect as a "Sunday Print Edition" screening at the Los Feliz with a Dante intro.
The scope of occultic history here may never fully surface.

This film has been sitting on my DVR since last October. Maybe I'll give it a watch tonight. Love the podcast.
how was it fred
@bobbyologun1517 Pretty bad. I blog about the old movies I watch. Maybe I'll post a link here.

I’ve been watching a lot of weirdos in castles movies on Tubi. It’s my new favourite genre. Thanks for the heads up on this one 👍
tubi.. I keep reading tube.
I don't know if we get it in canada.
we can't get some stuff because the CRTC prevents them to create big monopolies.
@ I’m in Singapore. I use a VPN. Tubi is what I always wanted Netflix to be. Just an unbelievable number of really interesting old movies!

I first got some Monty Python vibes at 5:05,
But they cranked it to 11 at 6:57!
Yea apparently you're so uneducated you don't know THAT is a part of actors training? Really?
Uneducated opinions are pointless and lazy. Sit down.
Interesting 🎉
Have you seen Tinto Brass films?

Really? I thought the film was total crap.
Incredible cast for such a piece of trash!
Eh thought you were talking about Coppalia's Dementia 13 ( 1963) for a minute there!
