the_clash 1976, On the 4th July - The Clash made their live debut supporting The Sex Pistols at the Black Swan in Sheffield. The first gig we ever played was at what we used to call the Mucky Duck (actually called the Black Swan) in Sheffield. We had a song we did called " Listen", which had a bassline that went up in a scale and then down a note to start, and Paul was so nervous that he just kept going up the scale, and we all fell over laughing 'cos we didn't know when to come in. - Joe Strummer
You know what I miss? Those days when the streets were packed, people gave a sh!t about one another and when business, marketing and bankers were viewed as the real thugs.
Seriously, it’s a musical masterpiece. I love everything about it. But... as a bass guitar player myself, I have to give favoritism to the bass playing here.
Just needs joe Strummers voice or Paul Simonon or mIck Jones voice any would been awesome every1 imagine that would of imaculate even though none of there voice's aren't the just knowing that it's the clash make me feel blessed just like Link wray god bless every1 punk rock forever Golden

He tells that story in the film Westway to the World.
I met Joe in Philly in 2001. He signed my ticket and played a bunch of Clash songs.
