Director Tobe Hooper continues his discussion of THE TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE (1974), and his follow-up films EATEN ALIVE (1977), ‘SALEM’S LOT (1979) and THE FUNHOUSE (1981).
A legend. A great guy! An amazing filmmaker and am I honored and blessed to have had a casual friendship (we met several times over the years and just chewed the fat). I cried when Wes Craven died. I still haven't GOTTEN over Tobe....sigh... an amazing human being. Total Texan. Kicking ass and taking names! Even his lesser films are worth watching! In my humble opinion, the greatest Horror director to ever grace this planet...
+Mick Garris Interviews I wish you had gone more in depth in this interview although I still love it. You two must be friends, it shows and that's alright by me if you didn't want to hit topics too close to home.
Salems lot is one of the greatest Vampire films ever, with 40 days of Night, the universal & hammer Dracula films, it terrified me as a kid great movie .
Imagine Friedkin and Hooper doing "Salems Lot"?Warner needs to release additional footage, behind the scenes for the "Lot"...It has to be available...Since it looks as if the Dauberman version will never see the light of day..Thank you Warner Bros..There are too many fans waiting for this re-make who are going to run out of interest by the time you(WB)get your collective shit together..Many were looking forward to the 2022 release of "Salems Lot"...Now we have nothing and Nobody is talking about it..At least put it out on HBO for God Sake......
Fantastic interview, seems like a sweet guy. The hate he gets behind the director chair I could get cause you hear the stories of him being like “Well you can’t get it right, then fuck off!” And screaming out demands to the actors, sipping on Dr. peppers you hear all those stories but you see his films and you see that’s just what he needed to do for him to get them, where they are. Some may classify it as “abuse” but he gets the ducking job done.
A Four hour mini series Tobe ? Were is the rest of it then ? Lol I heard the late great Reggie Nalder, for one, was not happy as many scenes involving his character were left on the cutting room floor, so to speak. So were, I'm sure we'd all like to know, are those missing scenes? Perhaps producer Richard Kobritz would know ? Feel free to come on Richard if you see this buddy !!
Too bad his career went down hill when he failed to make money for Lifeforce. And people didn't like TCM 2 when it first came out. Such a shame. Most of the time after that he went on to do HBO shows and straight to video films.
It's weird seeing someone make a film that litterraly revolutionizes the face of horror to making street to video films afterwards. It's sad but I still keep tobe high up
Tobe Hooper will be greatly missed. It's good to get to see him again here. What a brilliant artist.
My favorite director ever. He is so underrated

He’s that rare director where even his lesser films have great direction sometimes those scripts needed a quick rewrite
Post Mortem was shot in 2010 and 2011. Glad you're enjoying them! Might be having some news soon; keep your eyes peeled!

Shot? Wow, lucky man to have survived.
Tobes voice sounds like a log-fire smoking a cuban cigar.
He sounds exactly like old man Iggy Pop
His vocal fry is off the charts.
May he rest in peace. I can't belive he is gone.
So as mentioned by Tobe Hooper there’s a superior 4 hour cut of Salems Lot !!!

My friend Jay Eodice and I totally got the red humor in TCM when we first watched it in 1980 at 9 years old.

Thanks! Glad you're enjoying it. Tobe was as great a person as he was a director.
I love all of your interviews!!
Antron LaVey Many thanks. Hope you are catching the Post Mortem podcast.

It was broadcast as a four-hour miniseries on television, with all those scenes that were deleted for the international theatrical release
Tobe Hooper can do the voice of the devil in any horror film.
