  • Pushing the Samurai 120 past failure! Spindle Stall! 4000mm/min
    Today we pushed the Samurai 120 into the unthinkable, and achieved 11MRR in aluminium without flood coolant. These cuts equate to 400% spindle load!
    The spindle stalled due to lack of coolant, but the Samurai kept cutting regardless and didn't gouge the part. If it stalled during a continuous cut the spindle servo would exceed position error parameters and automatically e-stop the machine.
    It is definitely not recommended to try these cuts on your machine. We crash the machine so you don't have to!

    We all want to see in a video.... what control are you using? cause on your webpage mention the nk530m control can be purchase with the machine. so this demos are from match 4 or the nk530?

    Interesting machine, will there be cooling, enclosure, 4th axis support? Such open design will make a mess in the long run!

    Where does the flex happen? Is there a failure point to keep the machine safe from getting damaged?

    • @samuraimachinetools
      @samuraimachinetools  Год назад +7

      It’s the tool pulling out from the spindle. The failure point is the axis servo motors. On this machine the safety limits have been increased for testing purposes

    Is it better to climb cut? I always thought it was the other way around.

      This is a climb cut, which leaves a better surface finish, but should only be used with ball bearing screw machines. Conventional milling is for conventional mills, thus the name.

    Nice, but the machine definitely needs a metal bellows for the vertical linear guides and balls crew.

      You ever see an older Haas TM? I think covers are a little overrated. Mostly needed for materials like cast iron.

    The spindle definitely didn't stall "due to a lack of coolant". If the end mill had gummed up then maybe you could argue that but it looked perfectly fine. Coolant isn't going to reduce the power required for a given milling pass. That's just too big of a cut for your machine.

      Josh, here's my question in response to your thoughts here. Why did the spindle only stall at that one position in the tool path? It seems like it takes the same cut on the opposite side of the part without much issue.

      Coolant absolutely does promote better chip evacuation by lubricating the tool.
