I was there opening weekend as an 11 year old with my class and it was awesome. Yes I am old now but great memories. The lines outside the theatres are now of a bygone age.
That summer I graduated from elementary school. My mom refused to wait in the lines so we had to wait 2 weeks extra weeks before I could see it....was the longest two week of my life!!!
"Your father, he is." And, Leia's your sister. And your dad built C-3PO. And I met Chewbacca just before you were born during the Clone Wars. And Artoo worked on your mom's spaceship. And...
I wish I was old enough to have watched these on release but I was born in late 84 my brother was Star Wars crazy and it was a cool time to be on earth the 80s
Return of the Jedi was the very first SW movie I saw at the cinema. I wanted to see ESB back in 1980 but my parents wouldn't let me go because I was only four years old. But I cherished my Darth Vader figurine and Yoda pop-up book even though I had never seen a SW movie. In 1983 my parents finally thought I was old enough for a SW movie. It was better than I hoped. At the time I lied to my grandparents so I could see it again.
It was the first one I saw too. I was only 6 and don't think I knew much about Star Wars. We had toys lying around from my older brother and I heard about it from older kids. I just remember seeing the ads on TV with Luke swinging the saber on the barge and thinking it looked great. My friends my age saw it too, and we all collected tons of the merchandise after that.
WOW what a response the Star Wars Trilogy got and everyone saw this and every kid in America had Star Wars bed sheets and toys in their rooms and everyone wanted to be like Luke Skywalker Darth Vader Yoda, Han Solo, Princess Leia! I miss those good days!
@@johnnyjohnson I was 6 as well. For a while I only knew the original movies from the Story Of cassette tapes and picture books. I remember when I finally got to see ANH on a network TV broadcast. I thought it seemed quite slow at the beginning! I think we had to rent Empire. I didn't own the movies on VHS until their price came down for a 3-pack in 1989.
@@jedijones I can't remember if I listened to the cassette tapes and picture books from Star Wars, but I certainly remember them from other movies. I think I had the Gremlins picture book and either a record or cassette tape long before I saw the movie. Those were the days. 🙂
Those were the days when movies brought the imagination of kid, and teenagers on screen. Mass shooting never existed. Those were glory years. Miss that. I took my nephews to see there’s eyes open with amazement.
Special effects of over 30 million dollars! Imagine a Star Wars film made on that now, I think each episode of the Mandalorian is $10 million! What I would have given to go see ROTJ in the cinema though...
The reporter described luke as a "cosmic samurai". I agree
pronounced "sam your eye"
35 years later it's still amazing. I can't even imagine what it must've been like then
It was awesome.
It was a truly magical time, wouldn't have missed it for the world
My family was on vacation opening weekend and I had to wait until we got home to see it. The suspense was killing me.

It was fun. I was 19 years old in 1983 and I loved Star Wars for 6 years at that time. I still love it.

“And Artoo has rockets in his legs. Bet you didn’t know that even though you spent all that time with him on Dagobah.”
@@akapple3538 Yeah, when I saw that I said out loud in the theater, "Well gee whiz, THAT might have come in handy a time or two!"
Truly an old and ancient achievement from Star Wars.
What is? The success of Return of the Jedi? Because yes it IS a phenomenal success!

2:25 This movie was screened at Famous Players University Theatre, now a Potterybarn, 100 Bloor Street, Toronto, Ontario in mid 1983.
When you were 60?.....lol
The good times
My first movie.

Just like G.I. Jane 2
This was the only original I saw in theaters I was 3 years old when my dad took me and my brothers to see it back in 83

I'm a huge star wars fan
It’s the unaltered version
Mike D Fett demanded only one thing: an unaltered clone for himself

1:45 honestly, this is as cringy as people using Harry Potter references to explain politics nowadays.
1983 Coronet Theater 1000%
The Star Wars.. "saggah"?
Never knew it rhymed with Sanka. 🤦♂
Before the dark times, before the empire (Disney/Lucasfilm)…
Seinfeld's and Dateline's Keith Morrison
Imagine these guys watching the The Mandalorian now.
I was 7
Anyone notice the Pizza Planet truck drive thru at :20 sec in. Easter Egg?
Look how diverse that queue was back in 1983. Disney created divide where there was none.
Nice retro vid
Keith Morrison?
Gotta be, right?
Keith Morrison: "But was the Emperor really dead, or was it an insurance scam? And if dead, where was the body? Aghhhhhh!"
