I needed a way to stretch out and enjoy laying in the sun on my deck but also wanted something that was beautiful and functional at the same time. I designed this platform-style outdoor lounge chair that offers two different levels of incline or lays down completely flat for those times you want to fall asleep and get sunburn. Additionally, the other portion opens up to offer a sizable internal storage compartment for things that you want to keep handy during your lounging or for things that you don't want to blow away in the wind. Check out the video and then head over to FishersShopOnline.com and pick up the plans to build one for yourself!

Thanks for watching! I hope you enjoyed it! I'm anticipating people asking why I built it so low to the ground. The main reason is cedar isn't sold in anything wider than 2x6 around me. If I were to raise it up higher with the 4x4 legs, it would negate the use of the internal storage. I'd have to add a bottom which would just add to the complexity of the build. Otherwise, I could stack up multiple 2x6s on the sides to raise the chair and make the storage much deeper, but then the chair becomes very heavy and cumbersome. I thought this was a happy medium. Pick up the plans for yourself, you can adjust them accordingly to meet exactly your tastes! :)
I love the out takes makes me laugh every time 😂
I suspect that if you put a bottom on it, it would quite quickly become a storage space for acorns instead of a chair pad.
So pretty much your neighbor's fault for making his deck outta 2x6. You can't be blamed for that Drew.
Keep the storage the same depth, but just use longer legs. Talking of legs, those are some real white ones there - just returned from the arctic?
Is there anyway I can privately email you about a project I’m designing? Would really appreciate your help and opinion!
your legs nearly blinded me at the end...
great build, I think I'll make something similar for my new deck, thanks!
Like a pair of pipe cleaners hanging down from your shorts.
"... Perfect for lounging chairs and outdoor pianos..." Your humor gets me every time! It must say something about my mental state.
14:03 "I swear I'm gone weld you in there" had me laughing in tears.... tried exactly the same thing a trisilion times..... You're simply the best of all my subscriptions :-)
And at the end of his comment here: Oh you JERK! Had me laughing..............
Me too! I was scrolling to see if anyone else found that as funny as I did! I'm not saying I spat my drink out but i'm not saying I didn't either.
I am so glad I am not the only one that happens to! So dang annoying.
Jim Pudar does it release well also? My adapter got ?dirty? And have to use pliers to get the bit out.
@@shofarsogood7504 It's a known issue, that these bit holders tends to fill up with little bits of metal pieces and then the release function gets "clunky" and doesn't always want to release. I often have to use my bit holder in thight spaces which also rules out these bulky bit holders. Had a Wera bit holder for ½ year and then ditched it ;-)
Any project: do anything more than once
Drew Fisher: makes a handy jig out of scrap that blows my hobbyist mind
Looks good!
What a great idea taking the post and making one long dado then cutting to length. Brilliant!
Thanks!
I think I figured it out !! Your neighbor is an insurance agent and he and you are running an insurance scam with the materials you use in your projects. Ha !! Great video, Drew !! Thanks !!
This guy's humor really cracks me up.
Agreed..his neighbour must love him!
I'm glad you put the outtakes on here. It makes me feel better about my screw ups when I know others do it to. And I talk to my tools like you do. I caught the mailman backing a way after one conversation with a router bit.
Easily one of my FAVORITE channels!! Tip of the cap, Drew.
Thanks!
I always appreciate your use of a good jig. Also, those shop Adidas sandals are almost as cool as my shop Crocs. Nice build!
Shop Crocs for the WIN!
I wear crocs in the shop too!
I'm always seeing people in videos and stuff working barefoot or in crocs/sandals. Are y'all not worried about destroying your feet?
@@CeeJayThe13th You're so right. I need to get some Carolina Shoes like Paul Jackman!
@@CeeJayThe13th Like slivers or something? Or dropping something on my foot? Neither ever seems to happen however now that I've said that, I'm expecting a lousy Saturday.
Looks great. Happy sunburning!
I really appreciate you and the time you take putting your videos together. Thank you.
Glad you like them!
I swear Fisher is listening to me through my Alexa, I was just telling my wife about my desire to replace the chaise lounges we currently have and since next in my bucket list is an outdoor shower (cof cof Fisher! please come up with an outdoor shower project so I can buy plans and get inspiration!) out of cedar I'd like to replace all furniture with the same design. This is amazing sir! thanks so much as always!
Hehe! Glad it was helpful to ya
I thought the police caught you borrowing supplies again for a minute!
Thank goodness for this; I've been looking for outdoor crossbow storage for ages!
I’m glad I watched this - learned what those plug cutout bits do and adding blue tape to the pull saw is genius! I just want to build mine taller since I’m old! Lol
Thanks for watching!
For those pesky bits that keep popping out, I found a drop or two of hot glue at the top of the bit holder once the bit is in holds it great, and easy to remove with pliers or a knife when finished. Another great video. Thanks!
Your neighbor going to sneak over and swipe your new lounge chair to recover some of his loses..lol., great project, enjoyed wacthing
Thanks Dave! 😂
Very Clear instructions. One of my favorite Makers.
Thanks Tom
I love Fisher’s shop!
I love you scolding the bit. I do that all the time.
Love the outtakes!
And that drill bit pull out? Yes. The struggle is real.
I love your outtakes because a lot of times watching woodworking on RUclips, you all seem to have it together. That everything goes right the first time just as planned and you never struggle. Your outtakes make me feel better when I have my own silly mistakes and it reminds me that the youtubers do as well, even if we don’t always see it. Thanks!
Glad you enjoyed it. Thanks for watching
A story on the topic of borrowing from the neighbor.. we hold a family Christmas party each year. Every year when my father-in-law finally had the fire going, he needed more logs and he asked us sons-in-law to go next door to borrow a few logs from neighbor John. Many years there was fresh snow on the ground we clearly left our footprints visible but even still he knew what was hapening. Finally one year... I saw John sitting on our porch steps drinking a beer. I invited John in and he declined by saying.. no thank you, I know what the deal is... every year you take a log.. every year I drink your beer. John was a GREAT neighbor. God bless him, I miss hiim!
Gorgeous. Love the plugs!
Well, well ... good old Mr. Fisher building another great project again. Totally worth a rebuild! Well done, Sir!
Thank you!
You're welcome!
I’m glad to see this channel growing! His videos are entertaining and very informative. I always love seeing a new video show up!
Red cedar is great for outdoor projects. My neighbors were putting up a fence and when they weren't looking, I grabbed some of the red cedar boards which i used to make a table. I really love all the knots and grain patterns in cedar.
Looks great and comfy too
It is! Thanks for watching!
Looking forward to outtakes vol 2
OMG I love the cabinet that flips..... I want one!!!
Easily my favorite woodworking channel.
excellent build, as always. thank you for the blooper reel, it helps to know that i'm not the only one consistently calling myself an idiot when i make a mistake.
put a small piece of blue tape over the but of the torx bit and then insert it into the holder. It's just enough tension to hold it in without getting stuck.
Nice tip!
Best crossbow storage ever!!!
Beautiful! Nice build!
First class, turned out beautiful. Thanks for posting
Thanks for watching!
Ah, great idea to put a few layers of tape on the flushcut saw--hadn't thought of that -- thanks!
Gotta love the neighbors that always lend a helping hand!!!😂🤣😂🤣
Another awesome build!!
Thank you 🤗
GREAT project Drew. You were lucky that you had all the stainless steel hinges "hanging" around your shop. I am going out to my shop and see if I have a new table saw?? Tell your neighbor thanks so we could get a wonderful video! !! !!!
Looks great!
Thanks, TJ!
You really nailed keeping costs down.
Yess! A new video!
Very nice as usual sir! 👏
Not sure which is better, your voice overs or your outtakes. : )
Awesome I feel inspired to have a go at this one
Great job.
Thanks!
Awesome video
Nice to see one of your videos, feels like the last one before it was ages ago. 👍🏻
Great project and it looks fantastic. We share a common idea in that I like all my lawn furniture to be aerodynamic as well. Thanks for stepping up...It'll show my wife that I'm not crazy.
Thanks, Jeff!
My Rikon bandsaw has an outlet on it that I plug a lamp into. If the light isn't on then the bandsaw isn't tensioned. It also reminds me to untension at the end of the day.
Honestly here just for the outtakes. But watched the entire thing i promise.
While this particular project may not be something I am interested in, I totally watched the video because I appreciate and enjoy the way you present the steps (humor and detailed explanation) of all of your projects. I bet you could make a dissertation entertaining. I always look forward to the next project - and thank you for your inspiration!
Thanks, Richard!
you should have more subscribers pure quality
You should clearly canvas your neighborhood getting everyone to subscribe to me.
that storage area idea is great
I enjoyed building your crossbow holder thanks.
Hehe, thanks Jake
I feel your pain on the bit sticking with the deck screws. There is a rumor going around that I might have launched 8-10 into low Earth orbit because they wouldn't follow simple instructions!
I’ve never thought to put tape on the flush trim saw. Definitely doing that in the future.
Excelente trabalho muito lindo e útil parabéns pelo seu trabalho
Gracias amigo!
Your Narration is out of this world liked & subbed straight away 😂👌🏼
Thanks and welcome, Mark
I love your videos. I like to watch woodworking videos but I’m never satisfied but with yours I get this good feeling like I’m about to each the best thing ever. Keep up the good work
Thanks 👍
You talk to your tools too! I hate when the bit gets stuck in the screw. Have found that hitting the trigger lightly as I withdraw it solves the problem. Nice project. I am building a new pergola and may make one of these to put in it. Thanks Drew.
Turned out very nice! 😊
Ron
Thanks, Ron!
Another fun and useful build. Also enjoying your podcast!
Glad you enjoy it!
That looks amazing! Might have to try it myself if/when I have a deck to put it on.
nice chair
The blue tape on the Japanese saw was pretty clever 👍🏼
Thanks!
Gotta say Fischer, I absolutely love watching your videos.
Glad you like them!
great video love watching them keep up the great work
Thanks 👍
As always I'm super impressed with your work. Great job bro
Thank you so much 😀
Those star-head deck screws hang on to the driving bit something fierce. I have thought about making an extra welded-in version more than once.
Super nice Drew! And hilarious as usual!!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Nice lounger. The two varieties of Cedar make a very nice finished look.
Yes they do
Awesome build man
Thanks!
Well done and awesome to watch. Thanks!
Glad you enjoyed it!
thank you for posting been waiting a while !
Great video as always! And if anyone doesn't watch to the end of all your videos they're not human.
Nice
Once again, awesome video Drew. I love watching you make projects. I especially love the bloopers at the end of each video! Keep up the great content!
Thanks! Will do!
Goodness best outtakes that make me
Smile every time !! So glad I found your channel !!! New subscriber
Thanks! Welcome aboard!
There are bit holders out there that are magnetic AND have quick release collars that grab the little wire indents on the short interchangeable drill bits. One $6-ish example is the "Bosch ITBHQC201 2 1/4", Impact Tough Quick Change Bit Holder". There are others.
Great build, beautiful wood, hope you were able to save all that was useable
Elegante
I am sooooo glad I am not the only one who gets their bit stuck in the danged screw LOL
I appreciate the outtakes! 😂 all to relatable
Love the outtakes. 😉😂🇨🇦
Great build man, looks great!
Thanks!
"...or...crossbows." Man, I love this channel.
Very nice build. The wife wants me to make one with taller legs for those long summer evenings. Sadly in the UK it seems to rain all summer long nowadays.
To counteract your problem with driver bits pulling out of their holder, I can highly recommend the locking bit holders made by Wera: they are a little bit bulkier in the width, but they sure as beck hold onto the bits until you decide to remove them. 👍👍👍
Thanks David! Cheers!
Those frikken magnetic bits drive me nuts too
There’s something amiss, I’m pretty sure i saw PHILLIPS HEAD SCREWS.... 😉 great build Drew!
Yeah I should have mixed in a flat-head here and there. :)
Quiz time...
Who said the following quote:
"Don't you do it... don't you do it... Oh, you jerk!"
Was it....
A.) Drew talking to a driver bit?
-or-
B.) Drew's neighbor watching his wood pile disappear yet again?
C) All of the above
That's a good test to figure out who stays for the outtakes. I almost failed!
Your poor neighbor.
And you had me at "crossbows".
Excellent work with your Earlex paint sprayer! The lounger looks great (and very comfy too!)
Thank you very much!
Really nice result. If you neighbor moves away, you are going to be out a lot of money on materials. Seriously, its a great project with a great result. Thanks for sharing..
Well thanks! And thanks for watching!
I really liked the painter tape trick! :)
