Why We Don't Teach Readings (yet!) As mentioned in the introduction video to this series ( ruclips.net/video/RKWrWRFyfYo/видео.html ), it is my philosophy that it is a WASTE OF TIME to learn the readings for each kanji in isolation. I explain WHY in that video. To learn how to read kanji, I think it is best to learn WORDS that contain that kanji in the context of SENTENCES. We WILL be doing that in this series, after learning the meanings and writings for the 118 kanji in the JLPT N5 and Kanken 10 tests. So fear not! You WILL be learning how to read them in the near future. 😊
Hi, i just started working through these Kanji videos a week or two ago and I thought you had already released the videos teaching the readings at the end of the playlist. Have they just not been released yet or did you have to take them down? Thanks for the great videos I'm super excited about trying your method to learn :)
I ended the video with "You can learn the next 5..." without missing a beat. I'm so used to saying it I didn't even think about it. It's a lie though! The NEXT video is 10 WORDS... haha
Hey Andy, I really enjoyed this Kanji Series and wanted to say thanks for the hard work! I was wondering when you will post the next Kanji Series? (Words) It would help so much!
ありがとうございました。I can imagine how much work it is to record and edit only one of tis videos, so... THANK YOU SO MUCH for all those videos man!!! You are already a part of my life because my saturday morning routine starts with a coffee and a new episode of remembering the kanji, hahahahah!!! hugs from spain!!!! 日
10:21 Every single time he pulls these kind of things I literally say "Ohhkay,,, oh my god bro what is this guy???" out loud and then start laughing probably wayyy too much,,,,,,, .....
Due to its similarity to the kanji for four, I like to think of west as the 4th cardinal direction going clockwise around a compass (starting at north, then east, south, and finally west).
these videos were incredibly corny, but thank you for all of these. has helped me a TON with getting started. doesn't look like the words section is out yet, which is a little concerning, but with the head start from this im pretty sure i can skip ahead on my own. regardless, i will be waiting for the next part.
Started the first lesson with 44k views, made it here with only 5.6k! Glad to be one of the people who made it here. Thank you Andy for this series, it gave me a good head start on learning the language. Waiting for more videos to come out soon! 💕
Hi Andi. What's better: learning kanji relying on classic table of radicals (so-called classic 214 keys) or alternative systems? Many websites and apps offer their own classifications of radicals not based on classic keys. Opinion?
Hi Sergio, We actually started them once, and released 3 lessons, but we realized quickly that they were a bit too difficult for most students. So we are working on re-working the reading part now. It will be at least a few more weeks. Probably a month or two. Sorry for the wait!
Excited to get onto some words! My self study alongside has got into N4 kanji but i find it really useful watching these about kanji ive already learned to help them stick more Thank you Andyさん 🙏
9:11 No way. I never thought that Andy would ever stop a pun mid-saying it!!! What is going on???!?!? He's learning to think before saying things (he's still learning because he still said half of the pun)!!!!!!!!!
This character also meant "back" in ancient times, and is still used today as the base of 背 (北back+肉body). In Chinese culture, everything is always oriented to the south, and north is always in the back. This is how you build houses, arrange cities, etc. So 北 changed its meaning from "back" to "the direction you have your back to - north".
I just wanted to say thank you for this series. This has been sooo insanely helpful. It's insane to me than I can get this level of education on a subject for absolutely free. I recently started going through the Anki Core2k/6k Japanese vocab deck which doesn't use furigana, and this series has made it sooo easy to guess and figure out some of the words without even seeing them or recognizing them. I can guarantee I'll be here for the Kanji reading series when you redo that as well as the next Kanji writing series. ありがとうございます!
Thank you for your work. It really help me. At home Im writing those kanji, at work Im writing them. When Im walking Im writing in the air. Its so much fun and relaxing. My goal is to read japanese. I dont know anyone who can speak japanese so its hard to practice that skill, so my focus is on reading and understanding. Thank you
Amazing series! Very excited to see the revamped reading episodes! I don’t making you taking your time to release those if it means the end product will be more helpful and easier to learn from. Keep up the great work!!

Are we really going to be doing a video for all 3000 jouyou kanji?
I ended the video with "You can learn the next 5..." without missing a beat. I'm so used to saying it I didn't even think about it. It's a lie though! The NEXT video is 10 WORDS... haha
Excited for this! Thank you always for your videos
I saw! Also, would you into making a video of the quizzes from this group of kanji?
I've kept ten (十) boxes (⼌) full of yen notes (¥), but their value is quickly going south (南).

西: A pictograph of a dynamite detonator from the wild WEST.
We made it 🎉! I'm also excited to start learning the readings, and curious how you'll teach them.

For me the west is the start of the alcohol 酒 kanji - when the sun sets in the west, it's time to start with beer!
Thanks for sharing! I'll use this to remember alcohol!
外、北、南、西、東、長、sorry just practicing 😂
when will the next vid come out?? I'm excited to learn the words!

AYOOO LESGOOOO
Hey Andy, any clue on when the Japanese words series is coming out?
When will the series for readings and words be out?
You could have snuck in the kanji for "kan" in kanji :,)
Hello Andy thank you for the lesson!
I was wondering will there be Kanji N4 Lesson?
