Fun fact: this is basically how diesel engines work. They don’t have spark plugs and work by rapidly compressing the gas to where it heats up to the point of ignition.
MiniBandit007 paradox if you are right that no true words have been spoken you are being truthful witch means you lied witch means........................🔁
All for under $1!!! I just used this spare sack of diamonds I had lying around my house, the shift knob off of my Bugatti Veron, 5oz of vampire blood that the vampire blood store gave to me for free, and these 5 baby seals I found and clubbed. You may need a 5000 MW laser, a back hoe, and a CNC machine to finish this job. But you could improvise and use the laser from say the Death Star, and I guess a bulldozer would suffice.
This device was made by indigenous Filipino natives to create fire then later was taken by the Spanish Colony and was taken back to Europe which started and helped develop other types of engines, This device is the very forefather of Engines
This was the first video added to my watch later 4000+ videos never cleaned it. I was a little kid I used to make a lot of this stuff even got in trouble sometimes. Holy s**** I just feel like I know him personally, but I don't, he was there when I was bored or down, there would always be something new to make. But everytime I hear about him, it just hurt in a different way cant explain it.
Ok, so I started by purchasing a program that included ebooks on how to grow in small spaces as well as about 20 other ebooks that will make me the King of survival with my family. While doing more research on RUclips for starting fires I came across The King of Random and so glad I am that I did. When the SHTF you won't find me asking for directions, instead I will be giving them. I am not affiliated with TKOR so my opinion is unbiased and even unadulterated. This is the bomb and you all should heed the lessons given by this man. He has something on the ball and he is giving it away for FREE!!! We are not all gonna die!!! But you might.
Holy cow, this is cool! With all these new ways you're showing to make fire, it's a wonder anyone thinks the invention of fire was a big event at all! :)
Brandon Callahan ahhh, I was think about school about 8 hours ago I started thinking that it could be that and i was going to check but i completely forgot :P thanks :)
Cool idea! Char cloth works great. Unfortunately I don't have (nor do I know anyone who has) the expensive tools required for this particular project. Bummer! Perhaps you should sell this nice little inexpensive survival tool! I enjoy your ideas that use tools/items that are more common/less expensive. Thank you for sharing your great ideas!
Don't worry. I also tried doing this for under $1.... Then I realized I didnt have all those $100+ Saws, Belt Sanders, Drill Press, Vice Grips, Thread Taps and etc.
I just recently discovered your videos and I am thoroughly impressed. You are making all the things I have always wanted to make, but never put enough effort in to create working pieces. Also If you are looking for other things to make try making a vacuum forming table! Iv already made a few custom phone cases with mine!
This is simliar to how a diesel engine works. The pistons compress the diesel-air mixture in a cylinder until the compression causes the air to heat up and ignite the diesel. Something like this would be great in a survival kit, because lighters don't always work when wet (or if they break), and matches are useless after getting wet. Plus this is reusable until the tinder claw melts completely which should be long after many lighters are used up
That's exactly why he referenced the diesel engine and added it to his survival kit. Unlike him I don't have these exact materials readily available so I cannot build this exact one. But the concept nevertheless still applies, compression and heat. Should be a fun build.
Not to be too nit picky, but I must correct you on how a diesel engine works. The piston only compresses air, not fuel, as there is a danger of it burning too early and causing engine damage. The fuel is injected into the top of the cylinder at high pressure once the piston has reached the right point. The hot compressed air causes the fine spray of fuel to burn.
thanks for clearing that up, I had been wondering how they keep the fuel from burning until top dead center, or just after. Seems any inconsistency in the production process would lead to slightly different flash points
Timothy Ryan Fisher I read somewhere that the first attempt of combustion under compression was a metal block with charcoal in it and a piston used to compress the coals, on hitting the piston with a hammer the coal exploded and blew the guys hand apart, the inspiration for the diesel engine.Fact or fiction ?????
i have a fire piston i bought a long time ago for about $90, and the one you made here works even fast than mine. the one i have often takes a few fast pumps before it ignites the charcloth. but yours does it with one go. very excellent.
Dude must've learn these things in the special forces. Seriously, no ordinary guy will know these things, or have the free time and tools to do all these things. Keep it going tho bro. Mad props to you for being so resourceful!!!
I see the trolls found this by looking at the prior comments. The difference between doers and losers are the doers actually have a purpose in life and the losers like to complain and whine. Good Job on the fire piston.
+Grant Thompson, the fire-piston technique also works with other char material as well. Anything that will work with a flint/steel will also work with it. If a small hole is drilled into the end instead of a claw, a small chunk of charcoal, char-cloth, fine fibrous materials (two hits), plant char, etc, can all be used. This is a great design on many levels. First, if the material is slightly damp and therefore is not reaching ignition temp, you can see it through the clear tube. Second, the material is superior to many others as it is an insulator concerning heat. Metal conducts heat too well and the char ignites at a lower temp, especially with good heat conductors such as aluminum, copper, and brass. The higher temps achieved with this unit make it even more reliable for ignition, though the acrylic material will wear faster from the heat generated in the claw area. I would recommend this build for those interested in wilderness survival. Good job, Grant.
awesomesauce An electric motor could be used to start the engine? Then every thing will start to run by itself once ignition has occurred, obviously. You can not ignite liquid diesel with a lighter for example. Have you tried to Google it? ;)
awesomesauce When you turn the key on your car, an electric spark ignites the fuel for the first time. From there, the power of the explosion makes the pistons go up and then down again with enough force to cause another explosion. And it keeps going on like that :)
JonnyKiller Yes that is true to all conventional gasoline engines, but not diesel engines I think (the "electric spark plug - line"). :) Diesel engines uses a glow plug to heat the air for a small time around itself before it can start clean (and sometimes even start up older diesel engines), then when the air around is hot enough to ignite atomized diesel, the diesel gets sprayed (which also, as said, atomizes the diesel fuel, which is needed to make it mix good enough with the air around) into the chamber and the diesel fuel ignites; then the four stroke cycle begins and the air gets compressed and heats up enough from that compression; after the start help from the glow plug, and then the cycle continues like that without any necessary help from the glow plug. I think this is how a typical diesel engine works, without having researched everything about diesel engines ...
Fabulous example of the precision needed to make these tools work. And very nice job explaining it and editing it into a tight, well-organized video. $1 of materials and $1000 in shop tools... are you going into business with these by any chance?
I have made his foundry, which works very well. The Soda pop cap dual container is very handy! I keep my fishing kit in it, then it becomes the bobber. I am getting ready to make the fire Slam Rod, only I am going to make it out of wood, instead. I also have plans to make his Ice Chest "air conditioner" this weekend!

I think this is how diesel fuel is ignited in a diesel engine; with compression and not by a spark-plug.

This is also why meteorites burn up in the atmosphere!
Dune1884 it because of friction...
