Thanks for the update George and Nat! Can’t wait to see brood management with both queens although separated! Used your caulk gun method of feeding protein patty slurry today, a lil bit runny, will have to thicken up! Jim- Florence, SC

Amazing, Sirs,! Here in Spain we call this kind of beehives "Onuba" (the Phoenician name of Huelva, an andalusian province). It is highly recommended to have 3 to 5 auxiliar hives (4 frame nucs towers, for example) for boosting a two queen hive. It is also highly recommended to have new queens (sisters if possible), in the dual hive. Also, 20 days before the nectar flow, it is advisable to make it semi - orphan by taking both queens. One of them you can put in a cage in the hive and the otheer in a nuc appart. It is a great oportunity for clean the hive from varroa. 12 days later you can destroy the queen cells or have more queens by install cages in queen cells. You can return the queens some days later.

I have caged queens at the beginning of the nectar flow. Yes, it will increase honey production since there are no larvae to feed. I like to make splits post nectar flow so I generally keep the queen laying during the flow to have the population to make splits post flow. It is very cool to hear what is done arounf the world! @@TheKeepersHive in the 60's Andrés Bravo Suárez, one of the best beekeepers in Spanish history managed beehives with 2 and 4 queens. Also another beekeeper Andrés Romero, managed 4 to 10! queens. The 4 queens set up collect more than 200kg per hive

What are the “triggers” or “signs that you look for before executing the Demaree Method?

Great question. Brood chamber full of brood. In the keepers hive that would be 6-7 deep frames covered in brood. No immediate super cold weather in the immediate forecast. Backfilling of brood frames with nectar. It is the art of beekeeping. George

Did you start with foundation in the honey super?

Your choice! It is always nice to put at least one drawn comb into a super so the bees will come up and work the rest of the frames. George
