Adding ambient sound is a good idea. I find as long as they are kept to a low level they work well. When at Rothley I like to listen to the sounds of the box.
I have used those sound modules on three layouts. I have used two per layout: modern station and urban sounds, steam era station and country sounds, signal box and country sounds. They do add to a layout. I started by creating my own for a WWI layout before they came out by mixing something like 25 tracks.
Another great update Richard and explanation of your thinking as the layout develops. First time I have heard about ambient sound and it adds a dimension. Everyone knows you works for Accurascale so plugs can be part of your news updates and I welcome this. I agree the reviews should be left to others for impartiality
Great video here Richard and a sound signal box is a fantastic idea to add to the layout, the only other place I have seen something like that is the signal box on the Liverpool Lime Street station model railway, great work here Richard, I look forward to seeing more progress, keep up the great work.
I am currently watching the video and am at 4:50 and just needed to say, before continuing, that I love the 'Goathland Bridge' idea! What a great addition this will prove to be. Eric.
Hi there I am a big fan of the faller road system but you have to be mindful of hill gradients. For good running the manual states “Upward and downward hills when constructing upward or downward hills or crests it’s important to round the roadway at the respective transitions for vehicle control. Upward hills should not be steeper than 12 % (120 mm over 1000 mm roadway) “. The road to the heritage bridge looks steep on the video so I decided to put my thoughts in. I am learning from your fluid approach to design so thanks for that. regards David.
Coming on nicely now Richard Watson, I do like the future plans. I'm sure it will all blend in well, and I do like that sound unit for the signal box. Do like that new 37 and the new wagons. Take care, my friend
Great video buddy, just ordered a hot wire cutter, how are the fumes from the foam ? Not directly about to breath them in!, but as example would it be ok to cut/use the cutter in spare room with window open ?

Absolutely fantastic Richard, nice to see your layout progressing very nicely. Love the added signal box and sounds. The two bridges look brilliant, they really add character to the layout! It seems like only yesterday when you first put your boards down the laid the pieces of track. Best wishes Andy 🤩👍

Nice One Richard. Educating the kids as always. Since there is a massive revival of railways currentley going on, gets the kids away from the playstation and computer games. You should have been a teacher...😏👍🚂🚂🚂
Hi Richard, there was a firm called Big Train Sounds who supplied stand alone sound/speaker which was blue tooth connected and could be plonked inside a signal box or a station bldg. The signal box sound file has about an hour of random signal box sounds, no wires and rechargeable. £30 I bought his sound scape pad which allows multiple build up of sounds from station ambience, city noise, station train arrival/ departure. Its on one of my vids, not sure if the business is still operating as his web site vanished sadly
I’d prefer a DCC decoder type of set up. It could be wired to the bus wire and then play individual sounds controlled by the operator, or a preset range of sounds.
Thx for the latest uodat Richard, I do love it when I get the notification!! Like the new bridge idea, just don't make the approach to it too steep, even if the real life inspiration is, never looks right when scaled-down to models. Can't wait for the green gold to be applied to them hills
I've got one of the gaugemaster speakers on my Goathland/Hogsmeade layout hidden in the water tower. However mines wired upto a 9V battery and a push button so you can (or my daughter can) just push a button to stop it if she's bored lol
Think you need a home signal by the box and a small walkway from the box for the signalman to receive and collect the token from the driver as your on a single line. Regards Stewart
I don't know if you're aware of what the block bells mean or what you can do with the module, but to give you an idea... First ding box A to box B = call attention = hello Ding reply box B to box A = call attention acknowledged = yes? 3 dings followed by a single ding A to B = is the line clear in the advanced section for a class 2 train, (usually passenger service) 3 dings followed by a single ding reply B to A = yes the line is clear, release of section signal given Train passes, 2 bells A to B, acknowledged by 2 bells B to A, train entering advanced section. Final bells for train = B to A single ding. A to B acknowledges with single ding. B to A, 2 - 1 out of section bell code, acknowledged by A to B by repeating it. Hope this helps with your immersion 😊

Hi Richard, a quick question you or your viewers might be able to help me with. I’m planning a layout with two tracks in a run around (tale chaser). It’s about 7m x 3m, so about 20m (60ft) in circumference. I’m use DCC for the tracks. But I think I’ll use a CDU to power the 40 or so seep point motors. If I want to build a mimic board, the push buttons on it are a long way away from the furtherest point motor 10m (30ft). Due to voltage drop, Is this a problem ? Any tips and tricks would be much appreciated. Thanks, Alan
That's really coming along nicely Richard, it's all starting to make sense too.
