I have been playing so much Halls of Torment as well! I was definitely getting tired of the vampire survivor like games, but somehow this one has been a breath of fresh air. I know it might not be for everyone, but the Diablo like setting and style really did it for me.

@@TerenceCole I feel like if a game is on mobile, I always naturally prioritize playing it there instead of on other platforms! Its accessibility is unmatched! 👌
I feel like I've played dozens of games in the survivor genre. Most f2p games are just terrible themeless asset vomits with tons and tons of ads and absolutely zero balancing. There's a couple on the Switch I like but I've basically given up on the mobile trash. I really like the art style and classes here. I think my biggest issue is seeing a 30 minute run time. I personally feel like 15 is the sweet spot; 10 doesn't feel like you get enough time to get a good build going and 20 is like dear god please end already. 20 is doable but I'm not sure I could do 30. However the quest system might add enough depth to a run to make it feel less tedious at the end. Next time I play one I'll have to figure out my average total play time. How do you feel about the 30 minutes? I really do love the genre but I've played so much trash from it it's made me cynical. Thanks for the recommendation 💜💜
@@veronicaveeroni I think that’s a fair critique. 30 minutes does feel a bit long! I think my personal sweet spot is 20 minutes. However, the quests and loot do make the time spent feel worthwhile and rewarding! You can get some wild builds built out over time, which is always satisfying! I totally agree with you about f2p reverse bullet hell games… they all suck or barely add anything new or worthwhile!
I bounced off of HoT quickly. While I love the Diablo look, I still think Vampire Survivors is the better and more fun game in every regard. Also, my device (iPhone 13 mini) gets super hot playing this game. But I might give it another go sometime soon. At least it made me get back to Vampire Survivors, where I still have lots of stuff to achieve and unlock. And Balatro needs no further comments. This game is perfect, apart from missing portrait playability :) I love its attention to detail: the tiny animations, the swirling background, the adaptive soundtrack. All that and more makes an already great game truly outstanding.
@@silentrocco I think in terms of variety, Vampire Survivors will never be topped in the genre. I’m just a sucker for Diablo and this game really hit a lot of niche things that I enjoy! I totally understand why it didn’t click with you! Ha ha. I’m glad you’re like me when it comes to portrait games. I should just put a default con for all landscape games: “Did not have a portrait orientation option”. Ha ha! I’m shocked Balatro actually didn’t get a portrait orientation option upon release. I can’t help but hope it will be added in later!
@@MintCity I‘m kinda glad there is no portrait option so far, gives me good breaks for real life stuff :) But yes, with portrait I‘d vote Game of the Year instantly :D And regarding Halls of Torment, I‘ll download again anyways, haha. I really did enjoy the Diablo look.

Since I got Balatro on my phone, I haven’t played it on my steam deck. I think they did a REALLY good job with the port regarding touch controls.
