Several friends mentioned how "heartbroken" Paul was when Jane left him. Six months after their breakup, Paul told a newspaper journalist that they "were still in love with one another, but it's impossible." Jane had made up her mind - she was not coming back. Other songs I think are about the situation are Hey Jude, Honey Pie, Martha My Dear, Let it Be, The Long and Winding Road, and part of I've Got A Feeling (I'd hate to miss the train/And if you leave me/I won't be late again...One evening in 1963, Paul missed the last train home to Liverpool, and Mrs. Asher suggested he stay the night at their house. One night became two-and-a-half-years. It was the catalyst in turning their innocent romance into a relationship). "Jane Asher was the first woman to reject him, and he did not like the experience", said Alistair Taylor, who goes into great detail about the breakup in his book. Also, note the ad-lib Can You Take Me Back? Paul sings between takes of I Will. He wrote I Will soon after their engagement, and when he got round to recording it after she left him, the two avaliable outtakes are both notably negative for a positive love song. She inspired so many songs written by Paul during all those great years. She was Paul's musa and she was beautiful. Here, There and Everywhere, and so many other songs. We know that Paul deeply regreted his behaviour, but then it was too late. It was a pitty. Jane was by far the prettiest girl in Paul's life. For me, who lived the sixties and the beatlemania as one of the happiest periods of my life, Paul's girl will always be Jane Asher. The next one who replaced her had nothing to do with the Beatles'story.
Paul cheated on her. She came home and found Paul in bed with another women. She walked out and sent her mom to collect her things. That was the end of their relationship. Most of the Beatles couldn't keep their fly up.
After 66 Paul was gone ,,,,,,that's Billy they had to keep up the charade of the romance.. two very good actors especially Billy,,Jane was not so convincing, just too sad and heartbroken I suppose.

Gorgeous couple. Jane was chic and lovely but she was somethig else too...independent. She had a successful acting career and I dont think she was temperamentally suited to staying in the background and caring for her man..she would have had to give up who she was. She was refined and smart and found someone who appreciated her. It did not seem that Paul did. Lovely memories...thanks for sharing.
You are correct, because in PM post Beatles song he's searching for a past love that haunts him not a present one. It's sad, really. Then, there's the Peter Cox tapes which was an eye opener! Unfortunately, we will never know everything that Linda said, because Paul purchased the tapes from Cox to keep them from the public. But, the fact that Linda mentioned Jane in 1986 in a "very negative" way speaks volumes. They were an adorable couple and were deeply in love. PM is a great PR guy and he only allows the public to see what he wants them to see. Jane clearly had the best years of Paul and he wrote some of the most beautiful songs for her such as "Yesterday" "And, I love Her" "For No One" and "Here There and Everywhere" to name a few. When Jane left so did his passion because he has never written anything that can stand up against these songs. And, have you seen Jane today? She is still so beautiful. It's insane. @JaneAsherKnows Actually, Linda was a groupie who stalked Paul and could only get to him when Jane left and he was vulnerable. Linda wanted his fame and money while Jane did not. I suppose people think Paul is stupid and did not see the difference. Paul had met Linda, slept with her, then dumped her to get back to Jane. Paul would have never left Jane for any women, regardless of his affairs. It took Jane to end them -then entered LE. It all worked out, especially for Jane, in which I am most happiest.

According to Linda's friend Danny Fields, she set out to marry Paul for his money and fame, then wanted a quiet easy life away from the public to reap the benefits to help her photography. At some point, I do believe she fell in love with him but not sure how. Perhaps, she remained high all the time? She got the fame, but not the money and quiet life while ironically she was forced to give up her future in photography while forced to learn piano, sing, and perform with Wings. Also, as we now know she was Paul's personal slave. The life she got was the one she chose and by all accounts, Paul and Linda manipulated and exploited the press from the start. Paul made snippet comments about "love at first sight" and "she's a woman, the others were just girls" etc. Sounds like a personal dig at Jane publicly to me. If PM wasn't trying to keep up with John and Yoko in public he was ridiculously making these comments, as well as manipulating biographies who did not do their research or attempted to shield their images. PM also claimed all his love songs were about Linda post Beatles. And yet, in quite a few songs written in the 70s, 80s, and 90s (several even today) he writes about a past love, being haunted, obsession and regrets, not a present one. It makes one wonder. At any rate, A. Taylor and D. Taylor witnessed a great change in Paul after Jane's rejection (as did his step sister, his father, his step-mother and others) and it was not a good one at all. D. Taylor famously said "I never hated anyone as much as I hated Paul during the summer of 1968." He still behaves this way even today. When Linda said she and Paul were "best friends" I believe that because for her to speak of Jane in a "very negative" way to someone she just met, that she didn't know personally, tells us that Paul must have spoke about Jane to Linda. Jane fell in love with the boy from Liverpool and not the Beatle. And, Jane was Paul's first love as he was hers. That is what makes their love story so tragic. No one can say that Jane was in love with his fame and fortune like the others. Even Linda wanted to use his fame to further her own career according to her close friend Fields. Jane loved him and would have been a profound and strong advocate in his life. I also do not believe the Beatles would have broken up had they remained together. His heavy drinking and drug use came after his break up with Jane not the Beatles. And Paul's demeanor changed and he was very controlling towards his bandmates. Lovely, Jane was and is so so beautiful - the picture at 2.19 is so sweet. And yet...he married Linda and they seemed very very happy. But I wonder whether, right deep down, he regretted losing Jane.
I think it was the Beatles success that ended their relationship. Even John later admitted that his marriage with Cynthia ended as a result of the Beatles huge success.
I don't think he regretted losing Jane or still thought about her as some Beatles fan suggest based on some of the songs he recorded in his post Beatles days. But I do remember reading that Linda was jealous of Jane's memory. Not sure how true this is. Jane moved on after Paul. She's married to husband for more 30 years, has a few children by him and is still acting and doing her baking shows.

Just because I've been researching through Paul's lyrics. When trying to come up with a reason via the lyrics he is carrying something in which he puts by the "packages." Sounds like Christmas with packages around the tree perhaps. On December 25, 1967, Paul and Jane announced their engagement. You are correct, because in PM post Beatles song he's searching for a past love that haunts him not a present one. It's sad, really. Then, there's the Peter Cox tapes which was an eye opener! Unfortunately, we will never know everything that Linda said, because Paul purchased the tapes from Cox to keep them from the public. But, the fact that Linda mentioned Jane in 1986 in a "very negative" way speaks volumes. They were an adorable couple and were deeply in love. PM is a great PR guy and he only allows the public to see what he wants them to see. Jane clearly had the best years of Paul and he wrote some of the most beautiful songs for her such as "Yesterday" "And, I love Her" "For No One" and "Here There and Everywhere" to name a few. When Jane left so did his passion because he has never written anything that can stand up against these songs. And, have you seen Jane today? She is still so beautiful. It's insane. I watch her shows on-line and she taught me how to decorate cakes!

She got the fame, but not the money and quiet life while ironically she was forced to give up her future in photography while forced to learn piano, sing, and perform with Wings. Also, as we now know she was Paul's personal slave. The life she got was the one she chose and by all accounts, Paul and Linda manipulated and exploited the press from the start. Paul made snippet comments about "love at first sight" and "she's a woman, the others were just girls" etc. Sounds like a personal dig at Jane publicly to me. If PM wasn't trying to keep up with John and Yoko in public he was ridiculously making these comments, as well as manipulating biographies who did not do their research or attempted to shield their images. PM also claimed all his love songs were about Linda post Beatles. And yet, in quite a few songs written in the 70s, 80s, and 90s (several even today) he writes about a past love, being haunted, obsession and regrets, not a present one. It makes one wonder. At any rate, A. Taylor and D. Taylor witnessed a great change in Paul after Jane's rejection (as did his step sister, his father, his step-mother and others) and it was not a good one at all. D. Taylor famously said "I never hated anyone as much as I hated Paul during the summer of 1968." He still behaves this way even today. When Linda said she and Paul were "best friends" I believe that because for her to speak of Jane in a "very negative" way to someone she just met, that she didn't know personally, tells us that Paul must have spoke about Jane to Linda. If not, his song writing sent Linda a clear message-one she was forced to be a part of.

No one can say that Jane was in love with his fame and fortune like the others. Even Linda wanted to use his fame to further her own career according to her close friend Fields. Jane loved him and would have been a profound and strong advocate in his life. I also do not believe the Beatles would have broken up had they remained together. His heavy drinking and drug use came after his break up with Jane not the Beatles. And Paul's demeanor changed and he was very controlling towards his bandmates. To this day, Jane refuses to even acknowledge Paul or their relationship.

Lovely lady but never thought she fit in the rock and roll world. She was a person accustomed to film sets and theatres She almost seems to have gone out of her way to avoid him over the years. I think he really let her down .That last photo is cheesy...photoshopped.

Lovely, Jane was and is so so beautiful - the picture at 2.19 is so sweet.
And yet...he married Linda and they seemed very very happy.
But I wonder whether, right deep down, he regretted losing Jane.
I think it was the Beatles success that ended their relationship. Even John later admitted that his marriage with Cynthia ended as a result of the Beatles huge success.
I don't think he regretted losing Jane or still thought about her as some Beatles fan suggest based on some of the songs he recorded in his post Beatles days. But I do remember reading that Linda was jealous of Jane's memory. Not sure how true this is.
Jane moved on after Paul. She's married to husband for more 30 years, has a few children by him and is still acting and doing her baking shows.

Just because I've been researching through Paul's lyrics. When trying to come up with a reason via the lyrics he is carrying something in which he puts by the "packages." Sounds like Christmas with packages around the tree perhaps. On December 25, 1967, Paul and Jane announced their engagement. Therefore, I think the package he was writing about was her engagement ring he placed underneath the tree. And, we know it was Jane, because he writes.."long time no see baby sure has been a while." There ya go! Now, wondering if Jane listens to his lyrics, in which he has continued to write about her for the past 50 years.

When they moved into Cavendish together..Paul has said..it became obvious the relationship was not going to develop into what he had hoped it would be. Jane has said that once Paul and John had done LSD together she felt she was on the outside and could not relate to them anymore. That plus Paul's other girlfriends.....doomed relationship. Paul wanted to start a family, Linda was the right package, John admitted that, struggled with it, but there it is. Linda was what he wanted. Lovely Linda RIP.
Paul lied as during this time the truth had not come out via Alastair Taylor nor has Jane ever said anything to a interviewer about Paul or the Beatles. Davis put that in his later book in which Jane does not defend herself. She's strong and principled. And, Paul slept with groupies including Linda, but he couldn't get back to Jane quick enough. Paul wanted to start a family with Jane not Linda. And, in recent years there's been multiple claims from insiders that there was abuse and infidelity in the McCartney marriage.
