Roy Harper in his element on stage with a guitar and pedals. One of his finest lyrics presented as it works best live and solo. Superb lyric that explores notions of Englishness as a rejected unemployed wastrel is lost in a moment. This wonderful live version is off the 80s live album In Between Every Line - the title being a quote from this track
This is one of my all time favourites. A friend introduced me to this - and other works by Roy - about 10 years ago. I cried on hearing it, so moving. Thank you for posting one of my faves!!
This transports me to a different time, a freer time. I first bought this album on the day of release. Absolutely adore this track, this version with Roy at his absolute peak.
had ty come back and just say this version is one of the best vibes ever in any live track the am sure this is the vesion i have on the in betwwen every line album
Yup, it IS the 'In Between Every Line' version. I have it on vynil in an attic somewhere, but no longer have a record player and it's not on iTunes or Amazon or Spotify. Suddenly got a great yearning for this version, so many thanks marc higgins for the upload.
Anyone gonna take a guess what effects Roy uses here? Reverb is a given, but it sounds like he uses phasing (of some kind), echo, delay and overdrive. Am I missing, wrong with any?
Think I went to all the Longridge gigs around about then, even the one in the civic hall canteen, about 20 of us in the audience, Roy was late, off his face and fell off his chair and Nick pulley him up haha
My most often repeated go to. I have the "Time fast slips away..." as my ringtone! xx
