I have used Sigma FPL for 18 months now. It is the best fullframe camera I have ever used for landscape and nature photography. The images are stunning!
@@PetrGardianTV just remind you that this EVF is still better than the Leica one for M240 which is a button instead of a switch. Sometimes I have to push a couple of times to activate it. Why should I? Because sometimes it won't work.
nice points covered moving forward we need more improvements like a stacked memory sensor for faster readouts and will minimize rolling shutter effect, a IBIS , A HYBRID shutter and better autofocus and slog profile with better battery and a cf express card.....nice work.....👍
Life is full of compromises. I gave up all my 'big' cameras and bought the tiny Canon G5X mkII. It is what it is. I use it much more frequently and that is the important bit. A photo is better than no photo, right?!
Absolutely agree. It also seems like people are not re-discovering how powerful and convenient these compact zoom cameras are. I took a bunch of photo with several Canon compacts back in the day - maybe it's time to do it again.
I went down exactly the same path with getting the Sigma mostly for my TL lenses complementing the Leica CL. The Sigma has grown on me more and more, even though I agree on most of the points you raised in your video. Two little details that make it even better is that the camera seems to pick up automatically when using manual focus M mount Voigtlander lenses changing to MF (and back to AF with AF lenses). The camera also automatically goes into crop mode when using APS-C lenses (unfortunately the crop mode stays and if you forget to put it back for full frame lenses you get the crop on them as well, I hope they can change that in a firmware update). But the best surprise for me recently was, that Capture One 23 now produces much better RAW files, which are now clearly superior to the ones on the cumbersome Sigma processing software, and if you change the white balance slightly to more green and blue you pretty much get the Leica colours of the CL! And thanks for all your great reviews, very helpful!
Thank you for your kind words! My Sigma was a loaner and it had too many frustrating bits for my liking so I didn't buy it in the end. But it's very interesting what you're saying about C1 23 - maybe I should go through the RAW files again and compare? Good idea for a little video, thanks! :)
@@PetrGardianTV Yes, that would be great! I just did a test between C1 22 and 23 and even after raising the saturation by 30, the C 22 RAW image still looks less saturated than the C1 23 image which also leans a bit more towards magenta and yellow.
I’ve been shooting an fp for about 2 years along with my Leica SL and S systems. L, S, and M mount lenses work beautifully. The output from the fp is some of the best I have seen over a 50 plus year period of taking pictures. I do have the external viewfinder which does work, and I have my strap attached at two points without any issues whatsoever. I don’t shoot moving subjects with this camera, and I am cognizant of artificial lighting. If you are someone who thinks of one camera for all situations, then you need to think in terms of getting more cameras. This camera is fantastic when you want to keep it small and lightweight. To hit focus, I have 2 ways of doing so, one without the viewfinder, and one with. Without, try something like a Voigtlander 10mm and set the aperture to f/8. Everything will be in focus allowing cropping. Or, just attach an AF lens like a Leica 16-35. With the viewfinder, use the magnification and rely on focus peaking. Manual focus is pretty good here. I’ve posted quite a few photos with this camera @coasttocoastphotoatl.
"If you are someone who thinks of one camera for all situations, then you need to think in terms of getting more cameras." - I like that. Thank you for sharing your thoughts and experience from using the fp. I checked your instagram and you have a new follower :)
The sigma FP series are perfect for videography, not only because of the raw video capability and the great dynamic range as well as higher bit rates. Esspecially the first version of the FPs were so good. For photography I recommend other vendors like sony, canon, nikon etc.
Comparing the Sigma fpL (circa £2,000) to a Nikon Z9 (circa £4,000) is unrealistic. Also, the fpL does not claim to be an alround camera, whereas the Nikon does. As a landscaper the fpL is a fantastic tool, and I've gotten used to the EVF switch even though I my previous camera did it for me. At the price point of £2,000 the fpL is a superb investment, and I am very happy with mine.
At the price point it is a great tool for sure! The next iteration should have higher flash sync and faster readout. It doesn't need to do all that Z9 does but these two things are quite important if you want to use it for more than static subjects.
I think this sensor is already in the M11 and is expected to be in the rumored Q3. If Leica makes this camera it will be priced at $5k at least. Bette to leave it to Sigma, see if they can pull it off themselves and use Leica glass on it.
I think I could actually like the EVF/display switch. That proximity sensor on my Fujifilm cameras is mostly a hindrance, it is just too unreliable (eg. in direct sunlight) and more importantly the switching is annoyingly slow. Trying to switch between LCD and EVF manually is no better. There is a long list of modes tied to the "viewmode" button. You cannot disable entries from the list and always have to cycle through all the modes even if you would only want to use two (like LCD-only and EVF-only). (Also, the list of modes on my X-Trans3 and X-Trans4 cameras is not the same...) Trying to cycle through the list without looking is very prone to error as well because again, the camera adds considerable delay after each press of the button before it will register another press. ...I would trade it for a reliable toggle or a button right away!
I've shot with one for years now. Shooting at a shutter speed, based on your country, can eliminate banding with lights. I like the switch because I can force myself to just use the EVF and not chimp like a Leica MD or X-Pro. I do think they could really innovate and release leaf shutter lenses to complement these cameras for flash work. Most of all, I'm furious with Sigma for never creating a native AF pancake lens for this camera. I don't want the overpriced crop 18mm. No firmware updates since early last year is also a major gripe.
Banding from lights is solved with shutter speed. 1/125 s, 1/60 s, or 1/30 s for 60 Hz; 1/100 s, 1/50 s, or 1/25 s for 50 Hz. I was worried about banding with this camera but I set the shutter speed and never have an issue.
Agree with most of this esp the point about anchor points with EVF attached when using any zoom lens, yes they do come undone..esp the evf to body screw... The slow shutter read out only hurt me once when panning. The EVF switch is annoying just like in early 2000s LC1 but you get used to it. Lack of IBIS as I have no OIS lens was only a problem on moonlit snowy nights when I didnt have a tripod, but usually isnt needed as the high ISO performance is so good. fpL+evf used for landscape/portrait and fp as a walk around. Haven't tried video yet.
You know what you like! Nice setup, I'm now looking at the fp but am wondering what lens is best to use with it for comfortable walk about. There is no Sigma pancake L-mount lens, right?
@@PetrGardianTV sadly there does not appear to be any pancake lens with autofocus (sigma 24 is smallish), although TTartisan has a few manual focus lens that are quite small such as 17/25/35 and 50.
I bought an FP, which except for only having a 24mp CDAF sensor is identical to the FP-L. I also got the EVF-11 and having to use a physical switch to go between the EVF and LCD also drives me crazy. Like you, I would turn on the FP and wonder why the LCD was completely black, until I remembered that switch.
If I must make a choice to get started film-making now: Sigma FP vs Black Magic 4K vs Black Magic OG vs Panasonic Lumix GH 5 s vs Lumix GH 5 ll ?! what do you guys say? what shall one put ones money's worth on in 2023 getting started to make professional short films, and poetic documentaries? thanks and hope to hear from anyone that been around and tried and tested why certain cameras work better than other cameras! cheers from Sweden! 🍻
I'm not filmmaker but the Lumix GH 5 II will be the most versatile all-in-one camera. Both Sigma and Black Magic will force you to use an additional screen mounted on a cagerig. There is more options than these cameras (e.g.: Fuji X-S20, Lumix S5 II) and all are good. So good luck with selecting the right one for you!
@@PetrGardianTV thanks! yes, went into town today and checked a couple of them.. boy the Black Magic 6k screen was really cool and the whole meny system and easy access of everything .. but it looked like a transformer spaceship and was heavy like cra
If Sigma continues to refine the fp line I will probably end up buying a future fp camera for something new. I like all the video power in a compact design, no shutter was ahead of the game (but implemented with older tech), the modular viewfinder is a good idea (just needs better specs). I really hope they continue what line and also release something with their Foveon sensor.
I love the market options and also Sigma’s lenses of which I have owned several. However, I was able to purchase an A7RV Sony for $396 more than the FP L. That makes it that either the Sigma and all its issues and limitations is overpriced or deals on Sony’s make it underpriced.
Maestro, thank you for the interesting story. I'm going to buy a SIGMA fp L. Please, advise me on lenses that will work without problems with a 61 million sensor. For photo. Thank you!
So close. My dream is a body that has a mount that can fit any camera mount. I.e. a large lens opening that takes a mount for nikon, or cannon etc. The body would also have interchangeable backs that have differnt sensors. Specialist hi mp studio sensor, Starlite sensor, sports sensor, video sensor optimised for 2k 4k or 8k. So now we have body that can take any lens and produce any tupe of image. The body would just have the controls, shutter, memory and battery housing.
Sounds great but camera companies would go bankrupt. They need to sell us a new camera every year and justify it by adding two more meaningless features and 3% more accurate AF.
Very interesting. Maybe a good option for backpacking based landscape photography with some light Sigma primes ? That said, how much more convenient is it than a Sony with the same resolution ? Thanks for the video.
@Petr Gardian Thats great to hear!!! I was wondering if some of the complaints were from people that didn't take the time to learn how to actually use it.
Have it since a while, did not get the viewfinder yet. it uses up too much space :) mostly I am okay with manual focus even with old vintage lenses. just a joy and the IQ is wow
Seems like a good camera for travel instead of M43 bodies. More details would have been useful. Can't u remap the AEL button to do something else instead? How many shots battery last really?
If Sigma updates the original FP with 24mp, and were to add a mechanical shutter, faster readout and a tilt screen, it would be a no-question instant buy for me. I want to get the original FP for video as well as stills, but seeing that I mostly do photos at night, or under artificial light, the banding is extremely concerning.
That camera has 40 excess mega pixels , 20 is good enough but even that is a lot ... you must note that the more pixels you have the smaller they are , and the smaller they are the worst subject separation is , and color separation , and bigger files without need for it ..and lower ISO performance ... If it had 12 Mpix , it would see in the dark , like sony A7S , and would have much faster sensor read out , smaller files , and all good things that come with large pixels .
Agree with the sensor readout but there is a use case for high megapixel sensors. Cropping for example or use of APS-C lenses. Plus the Sigma fp L sensor produces one of the nicest files I’ve seen from any camera.
@@PetrGardianTV I disagree , i dont have sigma FPL , but i do have Canon 5D 12Mpix , and 6D 20 or so megapixels ... and 5D is sharper , even when you pixel peep . Being an astrophotographer i know that if you take an image and reduce its resolution by binning , you reduce noise for the same amount , but i dont have problems with noise in usual photography . Now FPL is more for filmmaking , and i cant coment on that it probably produces nice fiels , but it would produce even nicer files with all the rest being the same just sensor pixel count to be 20mpix , or even 12mpix like Sony a7S. With such big pixels that camera sees in dark exactly due to large pixels . Dont know how to compare those 2 , for i dont have it . I get too that htere are people who like 100 mpix , a lot of them purchased phones with such high megapixel count and the images are rubbish , not even 12Mpix of sharpness . So a lot of people ask how much megapixels and how is the lot light ... they base their decision on that . But this is Propaganda , they are told to think that . They dont actually know what it is that gets you and what you lose . And you lose a lot . People say that best that human eye can see is 8K and that is 35megapixels , and that is also BS , on what size they dont say . I know for sure that on a tiny phone screen everyone uses these days , even 4K is pushing it , i doubt anyone would see a difrence between 2K and 4K on a phone , they may be seeing morethen HD , so probably 1440-- that about 2K and for that you need 4 megapixels. What is the point of 100Mpix sensor , in a phone where you can only see 4. The propaganda is huge . What you actually want , no matter the camera is less pixels , but modern one . Like i said if you want 4K you need 8 megapixels , and if you have 12Mpix , you have ways to crop , so still 5D for pictures , is more then in enough . Its more then enough even for Video , but it hasnt any .A7S does . And that they say is a beast , but i dont know about codecs and bitrates , probably not like FPL i dont know .
@@dedskin1 I think we are talking about two different things. Sharpness vs the ability to crop. I agree that the hunt for more and more megapixels is hurting results in some devices but at the same time even 100 Mpx cameras have their place in photography. And I agree with your points about consuming content on phones and our limited ability to appreciate high resolution files (photo or video). But it's simple marketing which sells and it's going to stay here as long as this world is about infinite growth.
@@PetrGardianTV yes its marketing and a lot of snake oil . I for example got Canon 6D , and i was under impression that 20 megapixels would be better then 12mpix of Canon 5D , but turns out i like the image of 5D better . It almost looks like that it has more detail , it doesn't but micro contrast if you know what that is , its not general contrast . In DXO pro you have contrast , fine contrast and micro contrast . Exactly that micro contrast when you zoom in to a little speck , it looks sharper on 5D , even tho it has half the resolution of 6D . Good that i knew that prior to getting it , i got it for video work . There is just something in big pixels , also there is something in small pixels , you get a lot of them . Provided with good studio lighting you can appreciate say Hasselblad 100Mpix medium format . But then you have to work on the skin far more then you would need to . cameras have come a long way , and even ancient ones like 5D classic , give you plenty . Of course if you are a wildlife shooter , or sports photographer , its a different story, there you need zoom , huge lens , preferably crop body if you gonna crop anyways , better to crop with sensor and you get 1.6x crop for Canon or 1.5x for Nikon . Or even micro 4/3 2X , so your 400mm lens becomes 800mm, Field of View with same light . It all depends on what one does . Sometimes i have found a Smartphone to be a better tool because you have it with you for every moment . my usual gear is huge , i cant have it always . So there is lot to say . But far as Cameras go i like big pixels , i like Sony A7S , but even with its 12Mpix i would have to work more to get what i want , i would have to make a preset for colors and such .And of course Glass , Sony glass is in my opinion the best glass out there in form of Kit lenses . They have best kit lenses by far . If you tried Pz15-50 from Sony you would know what i mean . its able to perform like a Carl Zais prime , amazing . But its only kit lenses , when you go for real glass it gets expensive . I guess to everyone his own . But i could shoot with anything , whatever you give me , as long as it has hot shoe for accessories , i can do with it . But as i say prefer larger pixels because my audience watches it on smartphones where 100Mpix of a Nikon or something just would be a waste and pain in the ass to process . You know what i mean .
I miss a bigger form factor because it should fit good in a hand and not only in a shirt pocket, A bigger form factor including an ergonomic grip could house bigger batteries which are too small. I miss an IBIS so i can leave my tripod almost always at home or in the car. A tilt display for deep perspectives or high above my head. And the mechanical shutter because i had a lot of distorted moving objects with my FP. And at least i miss a 35mm Foveon ;) But the colors are beautifull.
I also want this sensor in a completely different camera from Sigma :) FIngers crossed they proved the concept and will make something easier to use next time.
Thanks a lot for this video. Can you tell us how the TL lenses perform on the fp-l? Do they get corrected in camera or do you need to do it in lightroom?
Glad you liked it! I didn't do anything special when using the TL lenses on the fp L. The photos came out great and I had to do very little editing (correcting exposure mostly). If the lenses need correcting in camera (the 35TL is fully optically corrected AFAIK) then Sigma took care of it. I should add that I used Capture One 20.
@@alexanderchepak2009 yep, they are getting better and I have a pixel 6a, one of the best. But I would love a much bigger sensor in a super compact body, even with a fixed 28 or 40mm lens.
I have a similar dilemna. I love my Leica CL but I can't use it to record myself for teaching presentations because it has no hdmi. That's why I thought the Sigma FP used could be an option and I could use the same CL lenses on it. What camera do you use to record yourself?
I'm using the Canon M50 which is due for replacement, so I'm looking at various L-mount cameras to have one system only and fp is in the mix. It needs a separate screen though for self-recordings which puts me off and may be the reason I'll end up going for the Lumix S5 instead.
I used a Leica M- Summicron 50 all other should fit. Voigtländer M lenses too. I do not know if there are any issues in the corners with ultrawide M-Lenses.
Sigma has had nothing but problems with this release...and that's a shame. Already announced after ditching their previous partners (who I assume wished to go no further) that they will have to completely rework the camera...and is still unsure to it's mass production appeal. It may come out in crop format even. Nice video.
Thank you. I guess you are talking about the cursed Foveon sensor they already scrapped twice. Right now we know nothing, not even fresh rumors... hope they will make it though - I'm fine with crop sensor.
The issue which made me chose another camera is the lack of autofocus pancake lenses for the L mount. Why invest so much time and effort in making such a small camera and not create any lenses which are also compact? There are many pancake lenses created for other mounts, its a real shame there's nothing for the L mount. Converters are not a solution because its just adding length to the pancake lens so its nearly as long as the normal L lenses.....
I feel your pain but it doesn't look like Sigma are planning on releasing any pancake L-mount lenses anytime soon. There are manual focus alternatives which suits the fp/fp L style of shooting but I'm sure you already know that.
@@PetrGardianTV 😂🤣😂🤣 Oh you are certainly right! But I must say, Sigma cameras might be slow and full of shortcomings but they produce very very, beautiful photos!
I still own a Sigma DP1 Foveon camera and will keep it until it gives up the ghost, video sucks, big time, images are shockingly good despite the 'low resolution'. Looking at them is like a wake-up call
Super Thanks and we need and wish 8K Photos or videos in Real Best 8K 60fps or 120fps HDR10+ resolution clarity quality and Sound in full HD 3D Stereo Surround , Soon Please
Sorry, but even though the Sigma FP has an incredible sensor for photography, it is a camera designed focused on video capture. It has absolutely no ergonomics to be used as a still camera. It is designed to be used on small rigs.
You should know that these screws are NOT made to be used with a screwdriver ! You are going to damage them on the long run ! There are coin screws ! Just use a 1 euro coin or smaller denomination !
Thank you, I know they’re making all these screws to be used with a coin because people don’t usually carry a screwdriver, but I can never reliably tighten a screw like this using just a coin. So I’ll take my risk with the screwdriver.
How could mechanical shutter makes the body larger and heavier it is none sense. The first gen a7R was 407g, only 30g heavier than the fp, but had EVF build-in and mechanical shutter. And obviously the fp with that weird EVF module on is no way lighter than the first gen a7R. Something release in 2020s without IBIS and articulating screen is so wrong. It is just a experimental camera, too far away from perfection.
I'm not a camera designer but can imagine that the body would have to increase in size if they decided to put a mech. shutter in. Maybe not by much I doubt there is space for it now, in the little brick. I agree it's an experimental camera and applaud Sigma for trying to make something different. Someone has to do it, otherwise we will all be shooting with A7R and that sounds boring.
Lol, atleast on par with z9, probably the fastest non global shutter cmos full frame out there 😂. If only wishes could be so easily granted. One thing that can be done, but might take significant effort is to put a mechanical shutter in front and control it using strobe control from the camera (quite possible if you were using vintage lens that have longer focal length) but definitely defeats the point of a small and compact camera. I don’t know if this could help you, but it can run off usb power banks with the type C connector just in case you run out of battery.
Why not? :) Z9 is the first, not the last camera with this technology - I hope! Yes, power bank will work, especially on longer hikes while the camera rests in a bag.
@@PetrGardianTV Fast sensor readout, especially with high number of pixels to sample has impact on image quality since the ADC design trade offs will be there. Z9 actually is iq wise a trade off over z7 to get the faster readout speed. I seriously doubt sigma would have a similar priority. This is not to say z9 has bad image quality, but to say that there’s inherent trade offs that is not easy to meet on all categories. I use and primarily shoot a d750 because I also want low rolling shutter in videos (d750 does line skipping, and records in max 1080p and can hence do really quick readout). I have not yet caught on with the 4K hype, and prioritise colour fidelity and other image quality aspects. We just have to accept that sigma fp L is not for fast panning or action shooting but rather for more subtle but well composed shots and videos (and especially landscapes). Now, faster sensor readout on the sigma fp, which is a lower resolution camera, is a fair thing to ask for. Sony already has a sensor with fast readout in that range (the ones used in a7 iii) so it should work out well. One feature I really wish all cameras have is open gate mode like in Panasonic s1h or the new Fuji XH2. I prefer 3:2 aspect ratio for both video and photo (my laptop also uses a 3:2 aspect ratio screen) and can display a lot more information with decent scope to frame nicely. I am hoping sigma adds this feature, even if it adds even worse rolling shutter.
@@manueljenkin95 You are right, of course. Thank you for detailed response. I learned something today! D750 is a lovely camera and I'm sure it will be making you happy for years to come. My mention of Z9 was more about future - hoping Sigma will continue developing the fp concept into a more rounded camera, even though it will probably still be a niche product better suited for static photo/video.
Sigma never impressed me, their Foveon sensor never took off, their ability to just Sigma limited lenses and ot so good as well, just their 3rd party lenses are some what good, they should stick to that.
I used their Foveon camera and despite the breathtaking image quality everything else was horrible. Still fun to shoot with, though. As for lenses I have to disagree with you - they go from good to spectacular. Maybe that’s why Sigma can’t make a decent camera - too lens biased.
I've looked at a lot of images from this camera on Flickr and must say they are all pretty awful. Could be down to the photographers of course but none of them show any attribute that would encourage me to even think about trying the camera let alone buy it.
If Sigma made their camera based on the Sony a6600, with the larger battery, it could have been a winner. Too small for its own good. Any smaller and it would compete in the GoPro category. Sigma really needs to stick with making excellent lens. Leave the hard work of making excellent camera bodies to the big boys.
They must be selling a lot of lenses to be able to fund development and mass production of their quirky cameras. I like what they are trying to do but they often go a little bit too far.
smaller and smaller is not always better. Lumix S5 is a size i could live with or a bit bigger because i have quite big hands. Sony bodies are too tight and ergonomical not good.
One look at that external viewfinder gives the impression of an afterthought designed and made by first year design student that is also suffering of bad eyesight. Why did you pay money for that is beyond me. Good video camera, SHIT for stills if anything you are shooting is moving. Low light performance is on 2011 level.....Are you new to photography and did not know this about Sigma already ?
I had the fp L on a loan for a few weeks and was happy it came with the EVF as that is what made me interested in it. The EVF does look ugly but is actually quite nice to look into. As to your question - I like to try all photo gear myself as my needs and preferences are not always matching spec sheets or dpreview reviews. But also I was skeptical about the fp L until I mounted a lens on it and started shooting. Despite my skepticism and it's shortcomings the camera was FUN to use - and that is important to me as much as technical capabilities.
100% agree. The lack of mechanical shutter is a major, major issue.
The EVF is an expensive add on and adds a lot of bulk to the camera.
Thank you. The EVF was a bit bigger in person than what I expected.

Exactly…
To me this sensor tech seems like a great idea for Leica. Maybe the two companies could work together and make something very special.
Leaf shutter lenses would be amazing!
If you are shooting with variable lighting (like a concert) the banding appears no matter what shutter speed you chose.
@@ChrisWhittenMusic right tool for the right job then. Not a concert photography fan
@@dylandigby1776 Sure, I'm just pointing out that the electronic shutter banding is not an easy fix, it's quite a handicap.
Thank you, I will remember that.
I had a lot of distorted fast moving animals and people. So it is no sports or wildlife camera…
@@SD_Alias no, I wouldn’t call it a sports or wildlife camera. But what you’re describing is not banding it’s rolling shutter, I think
FP with the EVF is the best combo, I think. Hopefuly Sigma will make it easier to use with next iteration.
If I must make a choice to get started film-making now: Sigma FP vs Black Magic 4K vs Black Magic OG vs Panasonic Lumix GH 5 s vs Lumix GH 5 ll ?!

@@SimplicityForGood That's the best you can do - hold the cameras in your hands and then make a decision. Good luck!
Yes, all they need to do is to continue developing this concept. Maybe the next one will be called 'fp F' 😀
I love the market options and also Sigma’s lenses of which I have owned several. However, I was able to purchase an A7RV Sony for $396 more than the FP L. That makes it that either the Sigma and all its issues and limitations is overpriced or deals on Sony’s make it underpriced.
I'm really interested in this camera. I think I'd use it without the EVF, although it would make manual focus challenging in bright light.
Manual focus will be a challenge but if you mount a small 35mm prime, it will be the ultimate point and shoot camera :)
The modular design did it for me. It’s also really great in low light (I have the earlier fp version).
@@Roukus The fp is very nice too!
I live in South Africa, bright light as soon as the sun is up. Using a camera without EVF must be a surefire way to kill any passion for photography.
With mine, I’ve programmed a quick key for 8x zoom. Makes focusing manually a breeze.
great engineering. even before checking the price.

Thank you! It is a well made camera indeed.
Maestro, thank you for the interesting story. I'm going to buy a SIGMA fp L. Please, advise me on lenses that will work without problems with a 61 million sensor. For photo. Thank you!
Thank you, glad you liked it. Get Sigma full frame lenses - the contemporary lineup is a great fit with the small fp L.
@@PetrGardianTV lols, and another customizable button
Very interesting. Maybe a good option for backpacking based landscape photography with some light Sigma primes ? That said, how much more convenient is it than a Sony with the same resolution ? Thanks for the video.
Yes, for hiking with a small WR prime this setup will be great. Could even do wihout the EVF and keep it quite compact and easy to use.
I'm okay with thr EVF switch, but a mechanical shutter would be ideal since I keep reading about banding issues. Still going to get one though.
Banding happens in only very specific situations. You'll be happy with the fp L regardless!
@Petr Gardian Thats great to hear!!! I was wondering if some of the complaints were from people that didn't take the time to learn how to actually use it.
@@CollectedWorx It's not a camera for everything, especially not for action photography. But everything static or moving slowly it handles very well.

Have it since a while, did not get the viewfinder yet. it uses up too much space :) mostly I am okay with manual focus even with old vintage lenses. just a joy and the IQ is wow
I agree.
IQ is what got me as well... can't imagine focusing manual lenses only on the LCD though... the EVF is too nice to pass on (but is big and ugly :)

Ever check out the Sony RX1R/2??? Full frame compact camera with Zeiss lens. Quirky and flawed but great IQ imo.
I would love to try one of those!
Seems like a good camera for travel instead of M43 bodies. More details would have been useful. Can't u remap the AEL button to do something else instead? How many shots battery last really?
I will keep that in mind for future, thank you for pointing this out. My batteries lasted for less than 200 shots - the EVF probably doesn't help.
nice and informative presentation, thanks
I’m happy you liked it.
A global shutter would be enough. I would want a built in EVF as well, but that is even less likely to happen.

Not a problem for me, I use only the one in the centre.

It may come out in crop format even. Nice video.
Thank you. I guess you are talking about the cursed Foveon sensor they already scrapped twice. Right now we know nothing, not even fresh rumors... hope they will make it though - I'm fine with crop sensor.
61 mpx how many hard rives will i need ?
You should allow 100MB per RAW file.
The i-Series is quite small and you can mount all Voigtländer M-Mount lenses easily.

Sorry, but even though the Sigma FP has an incredible sensor for photography, it is a camera designed focused on video capture. It has absolutely no ergonomics to be used as a still camera. It is designed to be used on small rigs.
I agree the ergonomics are terrible but the fp (fp L) take quite a nice still images and for some that may be more important than video capabilities.
The need for "improved ergonomics" should be a thing of the past in 2023.

I’ve got the FP and I Love mine 🤷🏽♂️

I used their Foveon camera and despite the breathtaking image quality everything else was horrible. Still fun to shoot with, though. As for lenses I have to disagree with you - they go from good to spectacular. Maybe that’s why Sigma can’t make a decent camera - too lens biased.

Interesting, what most people agree on is this camera’s great IQ.
I think the big boys could learn a lot from sigma fp cameras in terms of modular design and excellent UI.
They must be selling a lot of lenses to be able to fund development and mass production of their quirky cameras. I like what they are trying to do but they often go a little bit too far.

Glad it was helpful.
Ergonomics should be very good for robots! Looks like Sigma, more than anyone believes that this world will be dominated by cyborgs.
A brick fits everyone’s hand the same, right? :)
