I’m from California and had no idea about these events, but I’m so grateful that you guys acknowledged and spoke on these things. I’ve never been to Liverpool, but the spirit of the city, the love of the club, and the fight of the people has always been an inspiration for me and I take great pride in being a “member” of the community precisely for these sentiments here. It’s bigger than football, much love! 🙏🏾

Whilst it’s a horrendous subject matter you fellas are covering, you did it brilliantly.
I’ve been telling my missus (from Slovakia) how different Liverpool is to the rest of the country and it has been easy for her to see and hear just that.
However, this week, I have found myself avoiding the news as I felt a huge sense of shame and was trying to ‘hide’ the news from my wife and close friends over here.

Same thing happened in Dublin last yr lads..when 3 kids & their teacher was seriously hurt in a stabbing..thank god they were ok..but ppl just lost the plot..
It’s something thats been boiling for so long..ppl feel they aren’t being listened to when it comes to issues of mass immigration..especially in Ireland i don’t now much bout the uk, but they (ones in power) are putting 500-1000 males into working class urban areas or small country villages without consulting with the local communities..literally changing the face of these areas overnight with ppl that have came here with no documentation and look ..its actually horrible to be putting these ppl into tents in fucking feilds so there a human rights issue to all this too..
Did what happen in the uk go wayyyy beyond what was needed or why they were protesting in the beginning for ..yes of course it did & it should be condemned at every corner..but we can’t call out these riots if we didn’t say fuck all in 2020 when BLM rioted ppl involved in both riots should be called out for the absolute wrong uns that they are !
I feel things willl get alot worse in uk before anything gets better..Ireland doesn’t have as much of a democratic difference than the uk does & I fear it will get very tribal over there very quickly which is sad to see!
Great listen lads and tough topic to talk about but yous did it justice..

I've watched other commentaries on the riots. Several people chose to bang on about the young man being the incarnation of evil. I've read loads of articles in independent news outlets. Gareth's extended view of the events is probably the best I've seen/heard/read. In particular the point about compassion/empathy and not rushing to judgment of the young lad who killed and injured people, was well made. His point that we know nothing about his background and what drove him to do what he did was excellent. I've been thinking about this and remembered a young Somali lad from many decades ago. He had been kidnapped when young and forced to work as a child soldier doing and witnessing that on adults should have to do/see. He was clearly mentally unhinged and barely holding it together. He wasn't violent, but was damaged by those early experiences. Rwanda is led by and autocrat, who does not tolerate any opposition and has those who stand against him or criticise his government abducted and killed. Former government ministers told us that Rwanda is a beacon of democracy. This is not the view of organisations like Amnesty International. Our government has given millions to Kagame for this Rwanda deportation scheme,

In these complex times surely we can find space on the national curriculum for both empathy and another important life skill, critical thinking. We could learn a lot from the elderly lady in Liverpool who held up the 'Nans Against Nazis' sign in front of the mosque. She would have been forgiven for not getting involved, being an old lady, but she stuck her neck out to make her voice heard. We'll all sit behind our computer screens and tut, 'Oh, that's terrible that is', but those of us opposing the riots are by far in the majority, it's time we (legally) made our voices heard like this wonderful woman.

We're beyond that now. We're now at a stage where no matter who does the appalling crime, certain loud mouths on twitter (Lawrence Fox et al) just assume they're Muslim and start pumping out misinformation. That's what happened after Southport. Everyone just assumed the perp was a muslim, that he was already on a watch list. None of that was true. None of it at all, yet that was out on the internet in a matter of minutes. And it;s led to this utter chaos.

I try not to get involved in the politics of division however whenever I hear you voice the only sensible opinion that applies I have to congratulate you on always have it. I’m a black man brought up in London and have since moved to California. It seems disgusting right wing politicians has given license to equally vile individuals to voice their twisted ideas publicly. We just have to accept ignorance is popular now. There is no logical argument to justify their behavior just a feeling of hate warming their souls

Superb analysis of the current shit show we are facing as a society, Robbo. I am proud of the fact that you have both addressed these tragic issue when other Scouse Red fan channels have stayed silent, it's been noted. Lastly I don't think it's a coincidence that last Saturday the Orange lodges annual August parades were cancelled in Liverpool and Southport. I suspect a lot of their bigoted members ended up at the Pier Head on Saturday. YNWA

Don’t agree with that point Cope. Just cos 20% of people in Merseyside as you said who don’t vote labour are therefore the racist ones. There are plenty of labour voting racists as well you know. Take a look at Sunderland, now Liverpool etc. As you said ‘send em home’ or stop the boats has become a slogan. So has ‘fuck the tories’. Means nothing if the same people that chant it have the same mentality and views as them.

Isn't it noticeable that these "Save Our Kids" peope weren't rioting when Cashman gunned down Olivia, Ashley Dale was murdered in her own home or Rhys Jones was murdered whilst out playing football on the street?
No, because those that did it were people who they buy their beak off. They all need a mirror holding up to their values.

Absolutely spot on Robbo, as an exiled Scouser in Yorkshire, I mentioned that we are a multiracial society, we have been since the Saxons etc. I'm from Walton and I'm so ashamed of what went on. Your words are so eloquent, thank you both ❤
