    The data vac has increased in price significantly over the years. I remember when it was just around $60 but now it’s near $100. It seems like somebody else like a computer peripheral manufacturer would build an alternative. I’m surprise companies like cooler master or phanteks or Corsair haven’t made computer blower cleaner of some kind.
    Like an RGB blower.........

      That's mostly because of inflation. Other manufacturers haven't done it because I am guessing the profit margins are slim and it's not worth their time.

    The difference in nozzle shapes is probably a bigger difference maker than build quality or price. If you have a bin of old vacuum attachments one of those pinched nozzles attached would probably equalize the performance. Open your mouth and breathe out, purse your lips and breathe out. Cheapo is let down by design.

    One thing that learned at work about ESD and has stuck with me for years. You could shock your system and not even know it cause it was so low of a spark you would be able to feel it. And the component will work and sometimes work for months and all of a sudden it dies without knowing what happen. It's the one day it's working and then next day you go to turn it on and it's dead. Over the years the company I work for has gotten so anal about ESD it's starting to get ridiculous. About 10 years ago they tell us we can't use metal coffee cups we have to use plastic, then a few years later they say we can't we can't use plastic cups we have to use metal. It's like doctors tells you what foods are good to eat and then a year or 2 later they tell you it's bad for you and you shouldn't eat it. I'm convinced that doctors and the higher up in a company are dumber that a box of rocks. I do have a feeling that when a doc tells you that you need to start eating this, it's because there was an over growth of that sort of food and when a doc tells you that you shouldn't eat something it's cause that food didn't do so well that year. Just making money for the corporate shills. Sorry for rambling on man, I just woke up and I'm killing time before I go to work.

    • @ShaneMcGrath.
      @ShaneMcGrath. 6 лет назад +4

      I have felt the same way for decades, You are not wrong and onto something.
      Look at all the BS articles, One minute healthy fats is good next minute it's bad, One week coffee helps prevent cancer, Next week it causes it. Red wine good for you, Next month it's bad.
      List is endless.
      In other words they have no fkn idea what they are talking about but get paid anyway just to talk about it.
      I think it's just common sense in which a lot of these high up people lack these days, moderation is the key with most things and they try to complicate matters which back fires at times.

    I bought a DataVac 5 years ago for about $50. Its a premium product that works great. It has saved me probably a 100 cans of air. I've used leaf blowers, they just don't work as well. The air isn't as focused and the are bulky. Whenever someone asks me, I always recommenced the DataVac.

  • @coffinspired3092

    1. The worry about using a generic "blower" is the risk of a static charge, not output. (I've never tested this personally)
    2. Anyone who watches this, DON'T just blow forced air into your fans and let them wind up to infinity - hold it still with your finger before applying air - you risk damage to some fans by doing this.
    EDIT: Great vid as usual Bryan. I don't comment much, but I appreciate ya. :)

    • @HuMaNiTaRiAn1
      @HuMaNiTaRiAn1 6 лет назад +5

      point two is merited although it's not the fans that's at risk, it's the power you're putting back into the motherboard by spinning the fan in reverse. (wouldn;t worry about this too much though)
      point one can be mitigated pretty easily- meh, I'd be more worried about particles getting flung at those small smd's

    • @PimpMatt0
      @PimpMatt0 6 лет назад +1

      Coffinspired It doesn't produce enough power.

    • @AbrahamsYTC
      @AbrahamsYTC 6 лет назад

      Coffinspired I kind of understand number 2 and I personally do actually do that. But as for 1... ESD discharge on regular computers is very unlikely unless you're actively shuffling your socks on the carpet and even then most decent mobos come with ESD dissipating components built in.
      Still, I do take precaution and touch the bare case or a large piece of metal every 5-10 minutes or so when working on a PC to discharge. Straps are personally just a pain and redundant.
      And if you still worry about the blower then just disconnect the power/cords, wait 5 min., blow, then wait another 5 minutes, touch metal, turn your PC back on.

    • @Remmes
      @Remmes 6 лет назад +2

      Germo Gen It takes no real extra effort to hold the fans still, you can ruin the bearings by making fans spins faster than intended (I have seen people destroy laptop fans this way) Your argument is a car is designed to drive therefor driving it through all kind of shit won't damage the car.... no, just no.

    Wouldn't cleaning with wd-40 and it's left over oil attract more dust?

    • @vicorp
      @vicorp 6 лет назад +5

      It will, which is why when I see someone who uses it to clean skate bearing I smack them. You're better off using something made to clean plastic or metal, than some kind of "all-in-one" for your PC. That all said, if you're buying & flipping, you don't really care if something gets dusts a bit faster as it won't be your problem.

    • @silosis

      Venomaniac not really when air duster is anywhere from 5-12 bucks a can depending on where and what you buy, those things are a waste of money because they don't last long at all and you just throw them away, a compressor you can just continue to use and there are a million different things you can use it for! 10-20 cans of air duster vs a compressor that will last years and years.... Ill take the compressor, and remodel my house at the same time, as well as keep tires aired up on our vehicles and the kids bikes/balls etc..

    • @delonkck
      @delonkck 6 лет назад

      LOL. i've been looking at air compressor but that thing is huge but i know it can run for years. and even use for air the tires. and i can get one around the very same price as the blower. weird. probably made from china which quality can be very uncertain.

    I have the dataVac and it is one of those things that I tell everyone about. Of course it works great at cleaning computers and keyboards, but I find small uses for it all of the time. The thing is built like a tank. The thick sides will start to get warm if you try to run it continuously, but rarely is there a need to do so. Now the only question is, how long will it last. From the looks of it, forever, but we will have to see.

      A lot of people wash PC parts (with a hose or a sink). You just let it dry for a while. The amount coming out of an air compressor is very minimal (they have drains at the bottom of the tank for this reason, nobody seems to use them though). If super worried about moisture, the line dryer you mentioned is a great solution. It would also be cheaper than the $100 blower he had, and it will clean that Intel heatsink much better.

      remle ikawura It all depends on many variables. In the climate I live in, some days the air comes out dry, others I may as well use a garden hose. With large temp swings in my garage (I don't heat it all the time) temps can go anywhere from about 10°f to 80°f. This is just to say that it can be an issue. With an electronic blower, it likely won't be.

    Bryan, just a tip mate. Try to hold down the fans that are inside the chassis when using a blower to clean up stuff.
    Making those fans spin in the wrong direction could damage the bearings that are on them.
    As usual, great video! I have a similar $25 cheapo blower myself. These are all the same, it's just they come with different names, stickers and packaging.
    Hoping to get hold of something like the Datavac someday to make my life easier.

    If you DIY a narrower nozzel on the cheap blower it'll work even better. I've been using kind of the same one but from a reputed brand since datavacs are as expensive as gold in my country. They start from $200-250 USD converted and go upto $400

    The Tech Dept I work for has 3 of these Data Vac that we hand out during the summer cleaning while schools out. They are an amazing time and money saver over canned air. We were using a big compressor before that but these you can take into rooms and they have a very long 10ft(ish) cord. Great for blowing out pcs, keyboards, and the dustiest projectors you will ever see in central Texas. They can get pretty hot though after about 2 hours of off and on use they need a little bit to cool down especially when using in un air-conditioned rooms in the summer.

      Exactly why I prefer it over my compressor, CBF running hose out from garage or taking 30kg pc case out there, That freaking case has already ripped a calf muscle when I built the damn thing, Lifted it wrong way on one leg on tip toes to lean over and place in corner of desk, yep one of those 1 in a billion stupid moments that cost me 4 months off work.
      Now I don't touch the pc, Datavac it and leave it in place then vacuum room later on. ;)

    I think you'd get better results if you used the DataVac attachment on the Ebay Blower. that narrow opening it has is what you need to blow crap out of a dirty PC.

    Air compressor for nearly 20 years, not one single problem if you're careful and test for moisture with a white piece of paper as the moisture will adhere to it if it's a condensated tank. If that's the case, it's easy. Run a full cycle of decompressionand then try again. Had it happen like twice. I can get every single piece of dust out of my cases and keyboards no problem. Short blasts about a foot or so away. Just dont do it close to parts and it's never going to hurt you. Again 20 years. The experience and results speak for themselves.

    I personally use the ITDusters CompuCleaner Original 2 (what a name!) which retail for £49 in the UK which is right in the middle. It has excellent build quality, is extremely powerful (not to the point that it'll blow holes through components however) and has all the attachments you could likely need.

    Try silicone oil spray, doesn't smell anywhere near as much and brings plastics up really well. It's used on and in vehicles too, it doesn't damage surfaces. You can get it for a couple of dollars a can as well.

      ive never heard of anyone using a spray on the inside of the computer for shine...any suggestions..I can potentially see lots of problems

    • @MissFoxification
      @MissFoxification Год назад

      @@regg2943 It depends on where you put it and whether the manufacturer added a conformal coating to the motherboard.
      For shine it might have to be something that sets. Anything that has an oil in it will cause dust to stick to the inside of your PC, get into the fans and make a hell of a mess.
      There are lacquers you could use but you could cause a little bit of head buildup on power delivery but that might be your best option. I'd keep it well away from PD mosfets.
      You could try it out on another PCB, try using a super fine, maybe even microfiber cloth to give it a bit of shine afterwards. Apply it in extremely light sprays, one at a time.
      I suggest testing anything with a multimeter, both wet and dry to make sure there's nothing that can conduct in it.

    Personally I bought a cheap 24 litre oil less air compressor with accessory set (≤£100). You can control the pressure coming out of the blow nozzle on the tank and as long as the PC wasn't kept in a heavy smokers room all the dust bunnies fly out. I have even up cycled some unused chopsticks as fan holders to get into all the nooks and crannies. I've just had to buy a new one after 10 years of medium weekend use. My only warning is don't get right up close to relatively large/tall components (caps) because you can bend them over. Plus you can use the compressor for other jobs around the home, car, garden.

    You're in a dry climate, in most other places, a $25 blower would blow moisture all over your electronics - though this specific model doesn't seem like it's compressing any air - so it's probably safe'ish.

    Brian, you can get the non-esd version of the datavac for around $60-$70 usd. It has a white body instead of the black one on the esd version. I've been using it for a few years now with no problems.
    Either way, the datavacs are well worth the premium over the cheap china brands.

      Sounds time consuming but I guess it raises the billable hours. Honestly anything so gunked that might require brushing I hose down, dry off, and let it sit in a dry room over a weekend. By the time I'm doing something like that it's probably out of desperation, anyway, like trying to save some broke chain smoker's Core2.
