Yamaha has, in my opinion, hit the nail on the head this time. They've always had the quality but now have the tones and looks - as you say, with a guitar that refers to no other guitar on the market. I prefer the cheaper ones up to the Standard, too. Sounds familiar??? Pete. PS Where the hell do you get your shirts from? PPS My wife just walked through and said: "Nice, that guitar has soul!" She rarely comments on guitar tone.
I had the pleasure of taking part in your Revstar contest at guitar summit a few years back. I was awful 🤣 butchered the song. However, I've been a fan of revstars ever since. Awesome shape and concept. Great review mate
Awesome review…. I have the older 502T with P90’s. Love that guitar and compares to my Gibson LP on every level.. Now I am looking at a 2022 Revstar. Heaven help me when the wife finds out (and she will somehow).. 👍🇦🇺
$670 CAD for the base model Revstar. You get your money's worth with Yamaha, as they pay attention to the "how does it sound" part. Emphasizing the "how does it feel" element (get it) makes this one a Must Check It Out. Great tune for the demo!
I was going to buy one once several years ago, but it was too heavy. So I am glad they are doing this. The one I played the fretboard and frets were clean, action was low. It even has an be arm cut, so it's probably more comfortable to play than a LP (also the longer scale length I would find preferable as well).
Great review Henning, thank you so much for all your thoughts. And then the price - Yamaha clearly has a great winner with Revstars. Can't wait for the standard review
I have an RS820CR based on a review here ( he called it dope as fuck! ). I modified it with locking tuners, a bone nut, Whole Lotta Humbuckers, Abalone tone and volume knobs plus I had a Plek treatment done. It plays like a dream, beautiful! I'm really glad I went all out to buy it because it looks like it is the end of it.
I was lucky enough to buy RSP20CR few months before it got discontinued (which is now due to new series that came out), hands down the best guitar I've ever owned and puts my other 2x expensive guitars to shame. New series is really good, as always, hats off to Yamaha. And great review Henning, as always!
I own a Pacifica 311h and it is a great instrument! £299 is what it cost has Grover locking tuners graph tech nut and string trees really is a top quality axe. If these are similar quality then they are a bargain!
Elementary my dear Axman! IMO, Revstar aesthetics have always been on point. I purchased one on looks alone a two years ago, and besides it having need of some fretwork due to being in storage for ages, it just oozes P90 love. The Swift Blue and stripes is going show up a lot in this series, but I think I'll try and save up for the Pro Moonlight and a Standard Sunset with P90s... hopefully, soon going to guitar shops again will allow me to sample in person.
They look gorgeous too! I like what the pull pot does, very unique. Not sure about the Element but the other 2 have carbon fibre in the neck and the Professional has it underneath the bridge and tailpiece.
I had the old model and the push pull dry switch seemed like a waste. I could barley tell a difference. Now the Focus switch on the Standard and Pro seems much more noticeable and useful. I cant wait til this comes in.
After seeing your review on the standard model, I’m really surprised at how good this budget Element model is! I believe they’re selling for $459.00 American. Sure it may only have a 3 way switch instead of a 5 way and nickel frets instead of stainless steel but they’ve done what Yamaha has always been famous for. Giving you super build quality and tone for a musician on a budget. They always deliver the biggest bang for the buck in every price range.

I love Yamaha Revstar guitars! I have a 2018 Revstar!! Great guitar for the price point! I would get a standard or professional in this new iteration . The yellow looks bad ass!!
excellent presentation of this range of guitar. objective presentation (although sponsored by yamaha), detailed and technical which allows to have the essential elements to choose such an instrument. Starting your presentation with a piece with several musicians is really a good idea because you get a much more interesting perspective of the performance and sound of the instrument than traditional presentations. Your drummer is excellent. Well done, it's very interesting. I really like this brand of instrument playing keyboards and electric guitar. my last purchase with this brand being a genos yamaha keyboard in addition to my set of keyboards consisting of a jupiter x roland and a sequential prophet 10. it is a great instrument in the same way as this range of guitars presented. yamaha is a renowned instrument maker.
My first electric guitar was a T style Pacifica. It’s what I compare to other guitars simply because that’s what I got comfortable with if that makes sense. Highly recommend the Pacifica to anyone looking to get into the art of shred
Quality as always HP. Anyone spending around 500E on a guitar and not considering the Yamaha needs their heads examined. The Standard is the sweet spot I reckon.
Great review! You sure know how to trigger GAS with the exquisite presentation. Chris Buck plays a revstar , no better ambassador for this guitar than him really.
Great demo and great line of guitars…I’d only change one thing about the revstars…drop the a and add another e ..,,revster sounds so much better if trying to align with cafe racers/hotrods
I love that Yamaha has not copied the standard shapes with the Revstar series, but made something on their own. I think it's not completely unique though. If I remember correctly there is a company with a very similar if not identical shape. Nevertheless, I like the looks and the sound of them and if I would be a guitar player, I would get one. But because I'm not I stay with my Yamaha BB P35 bass.
Yamaha has made quality products from the beginning. As my main guitars I have 2 (well used) SE150's from the early 80's. These things are built like tanks (the 150 series were a single humbucker with a tone control only) and were budget/beginner guitars. Mine have the stock pickups and I wouldn't change anything about them. I like the Revstars ... but I want the goldtop.
Idk if it's just me, but that heel joint looks better than the regular Revstar and it's great that the neck has a satin finish now, the pickguard looks killer. The other finishes look nice. I wish they didn't use plastic nuts considering they don't even do it on cheaper Revstars.
I've been waiting for the Revstar RSP20CR, but it wasn't the right timing to get it when I was about to have a baby, so I waited 3-4 years, tried it, but was underwhelmed. That's just because this was in December 2020 and if you want to enter the store, you have to put their hand sanitizer on. It made my hands stick to the neck. Also, the guy insisted that I use a Fender amp that was loud as fuck, and I didn't know Fender amps well. I have a Blackstar, and the sound just sounded like shit through that too loud amp. I've been looking at Revstar lately. I want the RSP20CR, but I'm also looking at the cheaper ones. And now this! This caught me by surprise, I didn't know there were new Revstar guitars on the way! I'll definitely check some out! Great demo! I'm not skipping the song at the start.
Update! In the summer of 2023, I came across a deal. 600 euros for a white Yamaha Revstar Elements and a white Fender Telecaster Jim Adkins signature, with a broken volume pot. I couldn't say no to that! I changed the pot and I kept only the Revstar. I wanted to keep the Jim Adkins guitar too, but I already don't have enough room. But the Revstar is really fun to play! I tuned it in DADGAD and I've already written two songs on it, and neither took more than 30 minutes to write. Although, the second song was rearranged into a faster, heavier song on my guitar that's tuned in E standard, but with the low E down to C, like the band Chavez used to do, at least when they weren't tuning the low E down to A.
Shape wise, it carries a bit of resemblance to Rickenbacker 300 - series guitars. Pity they haven't put the carbon reinforcements in the neck with this Element version. I think they have intended to bring some single coil feel to the sound with the "dry" switch. To my ears it sharpens the sound.
I traded my RSS02T for the RSE20. Once I tried these humbuckers and the dry switch, I,as a single coil fan, could not put the Element down. It is a really fun guitar.
so , to me if i am getting the HH version I´m getting this one because , A is mega cheap and is perfect for gigging around and B i feel the high pass filter is great cause you get no hum noise!!!! but when it comes to P90 then i would get the more expensive ones cause the focus switch makes more sense with those pickups........ that is just my opinion :)
Killer guitar for $500. But the real deal is the RSS20.. $800.. carbon fiber rods in the neck.. SS frets.. better pickups.. nicer inlays.. better finishes..
@@user-oc8tp2sp9i so clarity isn’t better? More tones from one pick up isn’t better ? So if your theories correct, why doesn’t Yamaha put all the same pickups in their guitars if they are all the same quality, it will save them a fortune.
The cheapest one has Alnico V humbuckers, I recall the rs320 had ceramic humbuckers and that gave it a really cool tone. How does it compare with this model?
Nice playing guitar, well built, PU's a bit dull I say after a few months, but I think I always find HB's a bit dull, The Billet Green P-90 version I find perfect, here playability very OK, sound...so-so, but maybe it's me , I'm definitely not a HB man , surely not in the Neck position, I will Try out a P-90 sound in the neck enough shit lying around here ;-)
