I've got to admit the first place my mind always goes with Animal messenger is to use it on one of your enemies. Like, there's an evil king out there or something, who has a squirrel show up to shout obscenities at him once a day, and he doesn't know why.

@@frankhewitt1986 Pass Without Trace gives +10 to Stealth checks to allies within 30ft of the caster (and that 30ft radius moves with the caster).
Druid then wild shapes into a tiny creature and hides on the Rogue.
This allows the Rogue to have an +10 Stealth on his/her shoulder for 1 hour. As we know Rogues already have good Stealth usually so this allows them to have even better Stealth.

Spike Growth is my new favorite spell. Saw an ooze in a room. Cast it on the room. Two more came out of hiding. They all died trying to walk to us, as we peppered them with ranged spells. GM said most groups he does that encounter with barely survive. We didn't take a single point of damage.

Can fully verify how good Goodberry is in 5e. Just had two sessions where my party had to rescue and transport nearly 70 people from squalid conditions. Prisoners, about to be eaten, malnourished, etc. The druid spent 3 adventuring days spending all spell slots to cast Goodberry to help feed the lot of them, while tending to wounds and scavenging for food for the rest of us. That turned a logistical nightmare into a highlight of our session. The grateful people we rescued were spreading the news of this miraculous feat, and that actually made the whole group feel better.

While dming, I let a friend of mine who was playing a druid cast Heat Metal on the barbarian's axe while he was fighting. Just the blade was metal. He raged. He crit. He dealt 2d12+5 slashing and 4d8 fire damage, around 50 total (yes, I counted the fire damage as a crit even though I don't think that's supposed to happen but it was cool), and I described as the roper we was fighting got cremated while it was still alive. The table agreed that the roper deserved it.
    Tldr: Use Heat Metal

    • @a99barnsey
      @a99barnsey 4 года назад +2

Definitely against RAW/RAI, but hey, you're the DM. I'd say the "rule of cool" would permit it, BUT I would definitely make some limits on it and potentially have that ruling backfire on the party. Next time the druid casts heat metal on an opponent... guess what? He pulls out an axe and starts hitting them with the extra fire damage.

Moving 5 cubic feet of loose earth/stone as an action, without losing a spell slot is awesome, even without the other utilities the cantrip can do. Other spell casting classes get stronghold spells at high level, the druid effectively gets theirs at level 1, with other uses limited only by imagination. You can dig a trench, plough a field, over time divert the course of a river or stream, all without getting your hands dirty.

Especially if your DM allows Readying a move outside of combat as it's once per turn per person in general, so you can get two per person per round. @BW022 4 года назад +3

One key point is that druids pray for their spells, so you have a lot of choices plus the ability to prepare based on what you are doing the next day. I typically have two sets of spells -- travel and combat. If I'm traveling, I load up on goodberry, animal friendship, speak with animals, etc. I then animal friendship + speak with animals makes a great guard for the camp, scout, or even a body guard for some travel.
I'll also mention longstrider and darkvision also have long durations, no concentration, and can be pre-cast prior to wild shaping. Darkvison + pass without trace can be insanely effective with stealth and initial ranged or control attacks... or a 50' dire wolf -- move 30' attack, trip, and move 30' away. The opportunity attack is at disadvantage and the target typically can't stand, get to you, and attack in the same turn.

I’ve always wondered why a suit of armor should be affected wholly by the heat metal spell. Most armors are individual metal objects assembled together by nonmetallic ones. You also have an underneath tunic that would provide some protection. A sword handle and blade are from the same piece of metal but some handle covering materials would provide protection from the heat.

Warwick: The Uncaged Wrath of Zaun I feel like Druids can usually get more bang for the spell slot, most of the time a low level Druid would be better served by entangling or fairy firing the enemy, you do more damage as a team that way, and can use cantrips for most of your damage.
At higher levels you have a higher level you're probably not going to be in melee without transforming, most of the great Druid spells are concentration so you really don't want to be tangling in melee.

@sum body While it is weak in some ways, the fact it's a 5 foot radius (or 4 squares) of radiant damage that activates at the start of the round or upon first entering through its column of influence is truly spectacular when you can position it well. If you're able to position it in a bottleneck with your tanks keeping the fight from reaching you it can do huge pools of damage. It's great when used with tact and a communicative party, but if your crew operates on an 'everyone for themselves' basis, you're better off not using it.

Doing some mathematical formulas to discover chances of a lvl five rouge beating a 30DC stealth check with pass without trace with ability score improvement at lvl four they can get a +4 to dex whith expertise in stealth thats an additional +6 add on pass without trace witch is a plus 10 you get a +20 bonus for a 50%base chance of passing
Now lets take this to an easy extreme with to more players i.e a cleric and warlock or some other characters that get you to important spells guidance witch if you take the average is a +2 to the check and the last one i can think of witch is a bit cheating is hex since if when hexed you can target an ability score to give disadvantage and disadvantage gives passive checks a -5 if you choose wisdom the passive perception dc takes a -5 hit or for an active serch disadvatage witch means this spell combo effectively gives a +7 witch means you only need to roll a 3 or higher to pass and considering later on you will have a higer proficiency bonus and the ability to take ten you should eventually not even need the spell combo to easly pass the dc
Also a little bonus if invisible you can only be traked by tracks which pass without trace removes or noise witch can be solved with a loud noise in a random area from something similar to a firecracker.

don't get me wrong it's ok to get started but for more advanced stuff your better off with searching "dnd5e.wikidot.com" and then writing down the details as it costs nothing and is still rather simple, but if on the off chance D&D Beyond came with free access to all the expansions then and only then will i refer to it as the best D&D site but lets face it they are really money hungry and they're not going to do that
OH NO THAT WOULD BE WAY TO CONVENIENT.
