- The largest, and most expensive ruby to ever be auctioned off will be hitting the blocks at Sotheby’s. It’s called the Estrela de Fura, or Star of Fura in Portuguese, and it’s a 55.22-carat ruby. Because of its size, deep red coloring, and the fact that it has never been heat treated, this stone is estimated to sell for an astronomical sum. The Estrela de Fura Ruby is estimated to be worth in excess of $30 million.
this kind of stuff should be kept in gemstone museums, uncut and raw.
That’s what I’m saying
Yes! (and many other things should be too)
Why??
Like me….
And the next thing you know is a person of color robbed it 😬
Quick sidenote: The red stone on the front of the Imperial State Crown is called the Black Prince's "ruby" but in fact is not a ruby. It is red spinel. Spinel was not chemically differentiated from rubies until 1783. This red stone has belonged to the English royal family since the 14th century. Back then most red stone were categorized as rubies, therefore it was called the Black Prince's Ruby, although now you know it is not a ruby but red spinel!
Was the princess really black tho?
@@The12hugo
😂😂😂 No, prince Edward the black prince was not African or black. They just called him the black prince because he wore distinctive black armor which denoted him as commander of the English army.
His armor still exists inside and above his tomb in Canterbury cathedral.
So what country was it stolen from...just curious.
@@kalipw0210 Well surprisingly they didn't steal it from anyone really. England got the Spinel long before it became the world spanning Empire that it's known for in history. The Black Prince's Ruby originally belonged too Abū Sa'īd, an Arab Muslim Prince of Granada, and dates back to the around 14th century. At that time the Kingdom of Granada was being systematically attacked and reverted to Castilian rule by the Kingdom of Castile as a part of the Christian Reconquest of the Iberian peninsula. Abū Sa'īd was confronted by and was seeking to surrender too Don Pedro of Seville, but when he met with Don Pedro, the King had Abū Sa'īd's and his servants killed. When Sa'īd's corpse was searched, the Spinel was found and taken by Don Pedro.
Some years later In 1366, Don Pedro's brother led a revolt against him and since Don Pedro lacked the power to put down the revolt he made an alliance with the Black Prince of England. The revolt was successfully put down and the Black Prince demanded the "Ruby" as compensation for his help in the war, and so the "Ruby" was taken back to England, where it remains to this day. So yes, while the UK have stolen many artifacts over the years, especially during it's Empire days, the Black Prince's Ruby was not one of them. I hope this quick history lesson helped.
@@kalipw0210 it comes from modern day Afghanistan/Tajikistan and was gifted to the English for the services of the Prince during a battle I think.
It almost looks synthetic, impressive that it's all natural and isn't even heat treated
A bit of education for you: under the microscope, there is no difference between a naturally carved out/mined diamond, ruby or gem versus a lab grown diamond, ruby or gem. In fact the only way to tell the difference is the serial number inside of the diamond, ruby or gem (which is obviously not naturally occurring but artificially in place there by humans). IMO lab grown is the way to go, no human rights violations, no highly environmental damages...all around win
@@tayajaneway4628 Can't you fake the serial number and flood the market?
@@zuki9537 Considering the serial number is so small you have to look it up with a microscope, in addition it's recorded with the GIA when the diamond is first made... I would think it would be extremely difficult/impossible to fake a diamond in that regards. Now obviously if you're buying a diamond off of craigslist and you can't look with a microscope to see serial number then look up said information, yeah you might not be buying a real thing.
i dont care
It almost looks synthetic, impressive that it's all natural and isn't even heat treated
Wow so half of the ruby was lost after the cutting process.
Yeah lost 😂
Yeah they definitely didn't try to sell smaller pieces of it
That’s normal in gemstone cutting process.
Yes it's normal to lose half of its original weight.
Know your math
Looks like a mini version of the philosophers stone from “Harry Potter” tbh.
Kinda amazing that that piece of stone can be worth more than human lives
They arent, that’s just the value some people give them.
Of course they’re talking about the forced labor it requires to dig for these useless rocks
nobody is forcing them to dig rocks
@@Severussnapebestfriend do some research.
@@JohnSmith-sh1zg unless that rock was dug during slavery then nope. just a bunch of poor kids and people digging up rocks as they need money
I bet that Mozambique miner got nothing from that Ruby
Hopefully a salary ... xD
The raw one looks like a cherry tomato.
Actually it looks like those strawberry hard candies your nana always has.
Ha Ha! Everybody's granny had those darn candies.
I love those candies!
Imagine finding a rock that pretty much guarantees generations of your family won’t have to work again 🤘😎
Imagine if that rock was providing for the people of the country it was found/stolen by manipulation from. They wouldn't be poor anymore.
Tell me you know nothing about the gem trade without telling me you know nothing about the gem trade 😂
@@Rust_Rust_Rust Right 😂😂😂
@@gledi Depends. Not every miner works for a company. Some rent a mine and machines and they earn months of living when they hit one good stone, doesn’t even need to be a one of the kind.
I got a strong feeling that a lot of people died in Africa for that gem

30 million Can't wait to see the 40 million dollar one
Wow! Now that’s a beautiful ruby!💎
Beautiful gemstone.
30 million dollars!? Yeah, no one certainly isn't gonna try to steal that ruby.

It's FUNNY that humans value these things, along with diamonds. 🤣🤣.
They value it because you cant afford

What a lovely rock
And im over here trying to find change to eat off the dollar menu
"Worth an estimated value of $30 million" yet the miner that found it, can barely feed his family! 😕

30 million for a rock or help people? 🤔

@SleepyLightz, People can spend their money any way they want. Why don’t you help people?

The color and look of that is absolutely spectacular! 🥰

wow 😢😢😢 that looks beautiful
If I had enough money to purchase this gemstone, I'd like to have to in the uncut form that they originally found it in..
the "ruby" on the british imperial state crown is actually a spinel
I hear that you can trade them with a particular merchant for weapon upgrades and elegant items.
Dang it. I sold mine for 2000Pts
@@mistergameoncar Have you played the remake yet? I was pleasantly surprised how the new Spinel system works.
Honestly looks nicer uncut

looked a lot better in its original form

How much money will go to the poor mine worker who found it?
Crazy how this little jolly rancher can change someone's life
Why can't I find something like that?
Bruce Wayne be like: give me 10 of those.
For super man
Or Thanos
It should be criminal to take such wealth from countries of origin without benefiting its people! unfortunately the digger/miner working in slave like conditions won't get any of the profit! This is probably owned by a generational/colonial era company that held the mine for centuries
Exactly
It must have excellent vision
That thing makes me feel like Smeagol
And the crown has a spinel. Thought to be a ruby but later found to be spinel

Nice gem and video as usual, but I am within 99% of the population. Hence, I don't have the money and ego to flex like a millionaire or billionaire.

No. I am sure harvesting that ruby resulted in quite a few dead bodies. It is what it is.
